The Cold War and Arms Race both began after World war two, Both wars were also between the united states and the Soviet Union. The Cold War was started at the fault of the different governments within the countries. They sought to prove who had a better government, a communist government or a capitalist government. However, the term “war” is a false accusation because neither side engaged in direct war. Both sides were heavily armed and prepared for “war” which later led to the Arms Race. The Arms Race was a race towards nuclear arms superiority. These wars were both between the main superpowers and proved to be win-win war( did not have a loser ).

This was a seed of hostility between the United States and the Soviet Union. The profound differences between the soviet union and the united states were problematic and made worse by Joseph Stalin, who ruled the soviet union from 1929 to 1953 as a ruthless dictator. The creation of the atomic bomb on July 16, 1945, was tested at Alamogordo, New Mexico at a site called “Trinity”. The bomb had two objectives; a sudden end to WWII and possession by the United states,would allow control of foreign policies. In 1947 president Harry S. Truman authorized the united states to anti-communist forces in Greece and Turkey. The policy was expanded to justify support for any nation that the United states government considered to be threatened by the soviet union's expansionism. This policy was aimed at holding back and restricting the spread of communism worldwide. On August 29th, 1949, the soviet union detonated its first atomic bomb, at the Semipalatinsk test site in Kazakhstan. This event ends the united states monopoly of atomic weaponry and that caused the launches the cold war. On october of 1961, the soviet union detonates a nuclear device, estimated at 58 megatons which is the equivalent of more than 50 million tons of TNT, or more than all the explosives used during World war TWo. It was the largest nuclear weapon the world had ever seen at the time. At this time the soviet leader was Nikita Khrushchev,he made much of his nations technological expertise. The technological lead was actually in the united states favour. The cuban missile crisis played a crucial role in the cold war\arms race era.
