Comparing your life to that as a sidewalk may be one odd comparison, but you will be surprised when you notice how many things from your life can be symbolized within a sidewalk and its surroundings. I chose image number 3, a clean, newer looking sidewalk because it represents my life in a way that nothing has before. A few metaphors that I can relate too from this image are the clean surroundings of the sidewalk, the underlying roots of the sidewalk, and the concept of the sidewalk being replaced thus its new appeal. Your life can be depicted through many things that you may have never even thought of!

I am the sidewalk, and the grass represents my surroundings. Before I decided to replace myself, my surroundings consisted of dirt patches and overgrown grass. I let my life get away from me because I was too caught up in worrying about if my mom would ever find the right path in her life. I wanted to just let it all go and forget everything but when you discover that your mother is a drug addict and suddenly now has a strong chance of being thrown in jail, how could I just push that aside? At that time it felt as if everything around me consisted of pieces of the situation I was experiencing, I just couldn't escape it but I know now what I didn't know then, that you are the only person that can change your life for the better in times like those. I knew deep down that there was still a part of her that was the real her and not the person drugs have made her become. Even to this day I still tell myself that there is a chance, because no matter what you should never give up. Ever since I chose to finally cut and water my grass my life has been so much more greener. It's not good to let your past thoughts linger, you can't change things anyway just like the Great Gatsby says
