I discovered The Secret Circle while scrolling through Netflix one day. I decided to read the story line of what the show was about and when I read the description it seemed to be a very interesting drama series so I watched it. I like The Secret Circle because of the intense story line it has, the interesting powers the characters have, and one of my all time favorite actresses Phoebe Tonkin is in the show. During The Secret Circle a young teenage girl named, Cassie Blake, moves to live with her grandmother after her mother dies in a house fire. Cassie moved schools and made new friends who knew more about her background life than she ever did. Cassie's high school classmates then began to tell her that she is a powerful witch who they have been waiting for to come back into town so they could finish the Circle. Cassie then begins to wonder if what they are saying is true. She goes through her moms childhood bedroom and finds an old book that has pages of spells in it. She then believes that what her friends are telling her is true but what she doesn't know is how …show more content…

In the eighteen seventies, residential schools grew to popularity in Canada with an unethical goal and purpose to “kill the Indian in the child”. Stripping away cultural teachings and altering historic facts eliminated self- identity within the Aboriginal community, leading to impoverishment and race discrimination with future generations. Therefore, re-gaining the cultural knowledge and informing the public about the culture can establish self- concept and security. In the graphic novel, The Outside Circle by Patti LaBoucane-Benson (2015), teachings from the Warrior Program leads the group members and their families to discover self-concept, reducing problems experienced as an Aboriginal. The main character throughout most of the book is “Verity”, or Julie. She is actually telling the story of Maddie, however, although her presence seems to still be main focus throughout the story. Halfway through the book, however, it switched to Maddie’s point of view, or “Kittyhawk”. With both of the girls, you can see the changes in them. They both develop greatly and you can see it through them by just looking at what they are afraid of. It mentions once in the story that Julie once said that she was afraid of growing old, and then she say’s later that she could eat her words: she is now afraid of never growing old. “But mainly so very, very stupid. I desperately want to grow old” (114). With Maddie, you can see her changing just by the way her want to live grows as she is trapped under cover for many months without being able to see home, her best friend, or even just simply someone that she is comfortable around.
The camp was really, really old and many of the buildings had once burned down because of a big fire. Supposedly the camp was haunted by this woman named Mary, who was a witch. But, no one ever saw her, just weird things would happen. Little girls would disappear at night if they were out wandering around by themselves. It scared everyone because parents want their daughters to come home. So every time someone would disappear, people would go out looking for her but would never find her. But after a girl would disappear, it would get especially strange for a while. People thought Mary haunted other buildings, like the barn. Well, [lowers voice] one night one of the camp directors heard strange sounds coming from a little cabin in the woods where Mary supposedly lives and went to investigate. He found Mary with one of the campers, giving her an herbal potion. But the girl was already in a trance and hypnotized and they couldn’t bring her back. They took Mary and they tied her up and put her on trial. As she was standing there, she put a spell on everyone and killed herself with the spell. It was said that anyone else who said her name three times in the mirror would die.

Patti Calaboose-Benson's The Outside Circle is a graphic novel based on a story of a young aboriginal man, Pete, who was a member of a gang at the beginning and afterward became part of the warrior program, after being imprisoned for killing his mother's boyfriend. During the end of the 1930’s, Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party rose into action. Hitler is commonly referenced and linked with World War II, and has become famous for his brutal dictatorship in Germany. Adolf Hitler began the persecution of Jews with the belief that they were insignificant to the human race. Along with Jews, he believed that handicapped, mentally ill, and elderly people did not deserve the right to live. This horrifying genocide killed over 2/3 of the Jewish population in Europe. 6,000,000 Jews were murdered in concentration camps and mistreated by the Nazis.
One of the games was for them to crack a raw egg into a glass of water and see what shape it made in the glass. One night Ann saw the shape of a coffin from the egg trick, that's where it all started. Soon after that happened, Ann Putman, Abigail Williams, and Betty Parris started acting weirdly. They started babbling, convulsing, or simply staring blankly. Once they were identified as victims of witchcraft, they were asked to point out their tormentors.

Throughout our lives we are shaped and molded by our friends and family. They have a lasting affect that can shape our mind and our self. Self is determined by the combination of selves that surround a person on a daily basis. From the childhood friends that we try so hard to hang on to as we journey farther and farther into the real world, to the hated boss and teachers that haunt our mind as we lie awake in our beds at nighttime, we are a product of all those selves. It is the self that determines the course of actions that are taken. Our Actions offer a window into our selves. The actions or reactions toward tragedies, celebrations, disappointments and the occasional lucky break all reflections of our self. Every one of us has a different self, because no one knows the exact same people as someone else. I believe our self contains our values and beliefs. All of our priorities, goals and aspirations we have for ourselves stem directly from the self. Our reactions are also a window into our self. In my opinion, self is a giant jigsaw-puzzle. It is filled with different pieces of others selves that we have interacted with throughout our life, that combine to make one big picture, our self. I have taken pieces of many people who I have encountered throughout my life. My three older brothers influenced major pieces of my self. The pieces of their selves have "fit" into my jigsaw-puzzle self, and complete my total picture. Without force, or a conscious effort by my brothers, the certain pieces of their selves have naturally configured to form my self.
