Many Gods were worshipped through paintings and murals, but others were worshiped through the stars and constellations in the sky. A famous constellation is Orion, which represented Osiris, the God of death, rebirth, after life and destruction. The stars in Egyptian mythology were represented by the Goddess of writing. Seshat, while the moon was either Thoth , the God of wisdom and writing , or Khons, a child God. The sun itself was represented by several Gods, depending on its position. A rising morning sun was Horus, the divine child of Osiris and Isis. The noon sun was Ra because of the sun’s great strength and power. the sun God’s death. When night falls it represents with the death which is associated with Osiris. Every year the Nile river floods and produces high nutrient rich soil. Priests and leaders followed the reasoning and predicting the patterns of the flooding that would occur was in a while near the Nile river by the summer solstice. Which was also when the bright star Sirius rose before the sun. This made the Priests and leaders quite powerful for their predictions and many followed and looked up to them. This also led to help many people to grow crops and produce mass amounts of foods for many to eat and live off of. Many Egyptian buildings were built based on astronomical orientation as well.
Egyptians built their pyramids based of the alignments of the stars, zodiac, and constellations. For an example, the Giza Pyramids were built in a specific way and spacing from each other, that way the three pyramids are perfectly aligned to the three bright stars of the Orion Belt:Alnitak, Alnilam, and Mintaka. The reason why the Egyptians built their buildings and temples based by the alignments of stars and planets was because the Pharaohs believed the alignment of the stars will help to guide them to the afterlife into the heavens. The Orion Belt was important to the Egyptians because it's one of the brightest stars to ever be seen anywhere on the planet, which this represented as a beacon and navigation to the Egyptians to the gates of the heavens. In different cities they had different alignments and correlations to their buildings based on their specific religion of that place. For instance, some buildings were built to be aligned to the star that rose or set at harvest or sowing time. Others were built to follow the timing of the sunsets, so that way the sun enters in a room at a precise time once per year. Some buildings try to build their buildings differently so when the sun sets the sunbeams can hit the building and create a figure of their famou God or
leader. The Egyptians were very creative and clever in their architecting, science and mathematic skills and made it part of their lifestyle and religion. They focus their religion with the universe and astronomical orientations by following the perfect alignments to their temples and buildings so they can be closer to their Gods and heavens. The Egyptians were one of the smartest people throughout the ancient times which led to more astonishing occurings in Ancient Egyptian history.
The Pyramids Of Giza were chosen as they are three extraordinary structures that give a rich insight into the context, culture, function, technology, power and experiential aspects of the time period and the buildings themselves. The three pyramids showcase the Egyptian’s advanced construction and design methods, their religious beliefs and practices, their rich and diverse culture, the power of the king, as well as the context that surrounded these magnificent structures.

Like the Mesopotamians, the Egyptians also believed in god and goddesses and was one of the first to develop their unique writing system called hieroglyphics. Egyptian’s also were the first to construct triangular pyramids with magnificent tombs to bury their dead pharaohs and queens. These pyramids were very comparable to the ziggurats built by the Mesopotamians. The Egyptians unlocked more access when they started using papyrus to make paper in order to communicate. They also inven...
They always build their cities and temples using Astronomy mostly on an East to West alignment, but there are some Early to Middle Pre-Classic examples of a Pleiades alignment in the Pacific Lowlands at sites such as: Ujuxte, Monte Alto and Tak 'alik Abaj. Aside from having religious functions, Mayan pyramids also had other purposes. The pyramids were built so high that their tops could be seen protruding out of the jungle. Because of this, the Mayan people were able to use them as landmarks. That was not the only significance of building them so high though. They also served as a reminder that the gods were ever present(Hernandez 13). Some pyramids even house burial chambers for high ranking officials. Housed inside these mammoth structures were small burial rooms. There were narrow corridors that led to these chambers(Hernandez 21). These burial chambers often contained treasures such as jade(Hernandez 13). The Vault and Arch was used also in tombs, such as those in Guaytán, in the eastern Highlands and Tikal or Río Azul in the Petén
In their beliefs, the Egyptians formulated the specific concept of the mound of creation from the imagery of islands of high ground emerging from the annual Nile flood (Trigger, 4). The creation story of Seth, Osiris, and Isis centres the Nile as the birth of Egypt (White, 30). However, although the Nile has vastly affected the religion of the Egyptians, many of their gods were not inspired by the Nile. For instance, Horus, Shu, and Re were worshipped as the god of the sky, light, and sun respectively (Wilson, 222). These gods including many others reveal that the Egyptians created many deities based off of the forces of nature, in which there was a plentitude. Therefore, it can be positively insinuated that although the Nile was highly regarded in Egyptian religion since it was the birthplace of Egypt and its most important gods, however the Nile only shared a small portion in their religion as many other gods representing different powers were also worshipped. In their culture, the Nile has also influenced greatly. For example, the majority of pyramid construction took place at the period of high Nile, when the great blocks of stone could be floated from the quarries to a point near the pyramid plateau (Wilson, 84). Moreover, separation of land by the Nile lead to the ideology of dualism and balance, both of which can be found in art, literature, or mythology
Ancient Egyptians tried to understand their place in the universe. This is why their mythology is centered on nature such as the earth, sky, moon, sun, stars, and the Nile River. There are many Egyptian myths of creation, but the Heliopolitan Tradition, Hermopolitan Ogdoad, and the Memphite Theology are the most commonly used. They all have some common elements and gods. For example, many of t...
One parallel between Greek and Egyptian creation stories is that they both begin with a God or Gods being created from the universe. The creation of the Greek world began when Eros(cupid) sprang from the great, shapeless mass of chaos and was later followed by Gaea(Earth), Erebus(darkness), and Nox(night). These later deities would become the ancestors of all other Greek Gods and Goddesses.(Footnote pg 56 The Literature and Mythology of Ancient Egypt) Similarly in Egyptian mythology, Ra came into being, and gave life to other Gods, “After I had come into being as the only God, there were three gods aside from me[Shu, Tefnut, and Nun].”(Kaster 56) Eventually, Shu and Tefnut begot Geb and Nut, who in turn created Osiris, Isis, Set, and Nephthys. Creation by universe is a common factor in both Greek and Egyptian creation stories.
Osiris stories is a good example of all aspect, the way he died and transfer, the resurrection, the Family conflict, power, love, judgment, birth. A god of the earth and vegetation, Osiris symbolized in his death the yearly drought and in his miraculous rebirth the periodic flooding of the Nile and the growth of grain. He was a god-king who was believed to have given Egypt civilization. Osiris was the first child of Nut and Geb, and therefore the brother of Seth, Nephthys, and Isis. He was married to his sister, Isis. He was also the father of Horus and
Egyptians were an astounding set of people woe helped shaping their culture and the rest of the world with the lack of modernized tools. This is translated through their arts, architecture and culture, thus guiding and building the foundation for contemporary society. In terms of history, Egyptians were and still are filled with a vast amount of history which has also contributed with the development unique and diverse society. Their development of religion and culture can be dated back to ancient times and is seen through their various ways of storytelling which has been passed onto generations. These forms of storytelling can be seen ancient Egyptians mythology. Mythology played an important role in ancient Egyptian history because it provided
Constructed during Egypt's 4th Dynasty, The Pyramids of Giza are truly an astonishing work of architecture. These pyramids display several of the characteristics, that are now known, to be attributed to the Ancient Egyptian era. Years of research show that much of the ancient Egyptian's focus in their artistry, was that of a religious nature, regardless of medium. Artists of the time, focused their efforts on depicting the various Gods and Goddesses, immortality and the afterlife, and the glorification of the pharaohs. (MindEdge) One of the best examples of this are the pyramids. Each pyramid was built to be the final resting place of a pharaoh (Khufu, Khafre, or Menkaure) upon his death, and subsequent mummification. They were built on the
Ancient Egypt’s pyramids are the oldest and largest stone structure in the world. Along the Nile 35 major pyramids still stand. The three largest pyramids at Giza rank as one of the seven wonders of the Ancient World. It was on the list of notable things to see which was made up by the travelers during ancient times. The ancient Egyptians also built temples of limestone. They designed parts of the temples to resemble plants. Moreover, many of ancient Egypt’s finest paintings and other works of art were produced for tombs and temples. Ancient Egyptian sculptors decorated temples with carvings showing festivals, military victories, and other important events. Sculptors also carved large stone sphinxes. These statutes were supposed to represent Egyptian Kings or Gods and were used to Guard temples and tombs. The Temples were houses of worship. The word temple most often refers to Buddhist, Confucian, Hindu, Taoist, and ancient Near Eastern and European places of worship. Most Temples are built to honor god, a God, or many Gods. Many of these buildings are considered the homes of gods. Back then and still today worship at temples often involves traditional ceremonies and may include sacrifices. Certain temples stood on sacred sites. The design of numerous temples was symbolic.
The 2016 film Gods of Egypt is a modern-take on the Egyptian myth Osiris, Isis, and Horus. In many ways, the film changes the myth’s plot, teachings, and role of characters. The story in the film is not an exact adaption because of the alteration in the sequence of events and removal of main characters that were constituents of the original myth. Newer characters like Bek, fill voids left by missing original characters. The film deliberately modifies essential mythical elements such as fate, afterlife, and abilities of gods.
Egypt's grand architectural design was a result of the religious values and beliefs that were in place at the time. Thousands of years ago, 'Ancient Egypt accepted the challenge of reeds and swamps, hot sands and floods, and build the 'first' nation' (Romer:75, 1982). There were few things to impress themselves upon the Egyptian mind; their psychological impact however was immense. There was the Nile itself, source of all life, there was the mysterious regularity of the Sun, Moon and stars; there was fertility and death. It was out of fear and mystery of these things that
The Egypt pyramids were constructed for the pharaoh, as a tomb. Their belief was that the top point of the pyramid was the gate for the soul to travel to the afterlife and return to earth if chosen. These tombs were built which line up with planets and certain stars.
It is believed that the shape of the pyramid was an important religious statement. Some scholars believe that this is true while others still debate the possibilities. We can assume that the Egyptians were trying to symbolize the slanting rays of the sun. It is also believed that the sloping sides on the pyramid were intended to help the soul of the king climb to the sky and join the gods.
