I believe the ubiquity of robots will be cause for certain concern in the years approaching. These man-like machines are being integrated into society, and will inevitably replace humans altogether. For starters, society is filling previously human held positions with these robots, which will increase unemployment rates. It is claimed that the robots will execute the tasks quicker and more precisely, however corporations fail to see the negative effect. The machines will be completing jobs that humans would have executed, received a paycheck for, and then used this to provide for their family. In, “The Robot Revolution is Here,” by Katherine Mangu-Ward, she discusses what service is like from such a machine. The text states, “It turns it’s black face plate to the humans, makes an open handed gesture, and asks if they want anything to drink” (Mangu-Ward, 1). It then goes on to explain how it is able to take all the orders at once, and is capable of face recognition. While this may be fascinating, the machine is taking the place of a job that could’ve been used to fund a human’s necessities. In addition to replacing a human, robots decreases social interaction. The various people you come in contact with each day, whether it be when ordering lunch, purchasing clothes, or at the supermarket, will be replaced by robots. Usually, one gets into discussions with the individuals they come in contact with at these places, possibly even a heated debate, however, such interaction is impossible with robots. They posses no emotion, and are unable to be passionate towards something. This will negatively affect humans ability to communicate properly. Since we will constantly be surrounded by these machines our normal social skills will decrease, leaving us incapable of carrying a simple conversation
