In the beginning of this Education class, I began to wonder how much I could actually learn. I did not understand what else there was to learn about the educational field because I felt as though education is something that comes naturally. Many of the women in my family work in the educational field, so it only seemed fitting that I would fall in their footsteps, however, ever since I was little I have always wanted to become a teacher and my mind has never changed. Surprisingly, during this class period, I have learned so much information that I never would have thought pertained to the educational field. There are many areas of the teaching profession that come into play with the students. One example from the Ted Talks is the problem with standardized testing. Standardized testing is something the education field is struggling with along with the students because of the strong emphasis made on the tests but then deemed irrelevant because the tests are not given back in a timely matter. By doing this, educators are hurting the students because they are not giving students what they deserve, which are an honest and fair education. Education for students cannot be the same day-to-day activities. Students crave imagination and movement in lessons. This helps students want to stay in school and hopefully in the future lower drop out rates, which was another issue presented in the Ted Talks. By watching the group of eight graders in the TeachLive session, each session was different providing variety and made it obvious at the beginning of each lesson, as the student observing, my interest was sparked as well as the group of eighth graders.
