A similar misconception between kids and adults is that Earth’s seasons occur because the United States is closer to the Sun in June and farther away from the Sun in December. On a recent survey, 49% of kids and 59% of adults said that the United States is closer to the Sun in June, and farther away from the Sun in December. In June, the United States is 153, 000, 000 kilometers away from the Sun, and in July the United States is also 153,000,000 kilometers away from the Sun. In December, the United States is 147, 700, 000 kilometers away from the Sun and in January the United States is 147,100,100 kilometers away from the Sun. In December the United States is approximately 5,300,000 kilometers closer to the Sun than it is in June. The United States is closer to the Sun in the winter months than it is in the summer months. As one can see, Earth’s seasons do not occur because the United States is closer to the Sun in the summer than it is in the winter proving that the common belief is a false statement.
The seasons on Earth occur because the Earth is on a tilt at 23.5˚. 62% of kids and 55% of adults believed that Earth’s seasons happen because the United States is facing more toward the Sun in June and away from the Sun in December. This statement is the true reason as to why the seasons occur. About 4.533 billion years ago, there was a planet named Theia orbiting in the same path as Earth about the size of Mars. As it grew too big to remain stable in it’s orbit, Theia crashed into Earth at an angle causing the tilt of Earth at 23.5˚. The Earth orbits counterclockwise around the Sun. At different points in the year, the direct and indirect sunlight is at different latitudes on Earth. When a latitude is receiving indirect light, th...

... Sun is higher and lower in the sky in the Northern Hemisphere. The Sun is at its highest the Summer Solstice (June 21), which also the longest day of the year. On December 21 (Winter Solstice), the Sun is at its lowest in the sky. The sun is higher in the sky throughout summer because the North Pole is tilted 23.5 degrees toward the sun and since we are in the Northern Hemisphere, the sun is higher in the sky. During winter, the South Pole is tilted 23.5 degrees to the Sun making the sun lower in the U.S. sky in the winter. Because we are tilted more away from the sun in the Winter, the Northern Hemisphere sees less of the Sun because it is lower in the sky. In conclusion, the seasons occur because the Earth is on a tilt of 23.5˚. Different points of latitude at different times of the year receive indirect sunlight rays while some are receiving direct sunlight rays.
Nonetheless, there is some resistance to schools converting to a year-round calendar. Most of that opposition comes from the reduction in intersession length, and some students and/or parents don 't like the idea of year-round education from the start. This gives families a reason to voice their opposition when both the parents and child 's schedules do not line up with one another. This usually affects households that wish to take long vacations over the course of a summer. Parents, in some cases, may oppose this change because of child care needs. Child care raises opposition since there is a shift in the school year calendar. Parents may not be able to find nannies or babysitters. In addition, parents will have to check for or maybe even search for new or different childcare services. To add, parents with multiple children may have to worry about their children being put
The seasons play a major role in the development of the plot, allowing action to skip several months at a time by simply mentioning the turning of the leaves. The thematic imagery starts to outline the theme of the supernatural, when dealing with meteorological changes. For example when Gawain is searching for the Green Knight's Chapel, it is mid-winter. Christmas is approaching, yet what answers his prayers comes in the form of something nearly unimaginable.
The pattern rose due to its parallel to nature. Nature revolves in seasons of spring, summer, fall, and winter. This spans from the new growth or birth of the season to the eventual end of the season. The same belief transferred to life itself. A person is born and grows early in the season. Then enter adulthood for their period of summer. The eventual decline in the individuals is reminiscent of fall. Eventual death occurs to all. Further supported this theory was
It’s the year 2000, and a familiar song is being re-imagined by a French rapper. This is soon interrupted by Tommy DeVito, explaining that the 1975 song “oh what a night” by the Four Seasons, of which he was a member, is, in the year 2000, topping the charts in France for ten straight weeks. The setting then moves to 1950’s New Jersey where a teenage Tommy, looking to start a band with some of his Jersey buddies, discovers an angelic-voiced 15 year old named Frankie Castellucio. Before long, they form an unsuccessful group with the help of another kid from their working-poor New Jersey neighborhood, Nick Massi. After consistently failing to gain traction, the trio decides they need a fourth member, and, after going through several defective ones, enlist another neighborhood friend, who works at the bowling alley, to track one down. This impromptu talent scout, as it turns out, was a young Joe Pesci, far and away the most entertaining character in the musical. Pesci introduces the trio to Bob Gaudio, a talented singer, pianist and songwriter who had, at the age of 15, already written the hit song “short shorts”. Now, 17 and eager to prevent himself from becoming a one hit wonder, Gaudio joins the group. This begins a short period in which the group, which has been regularly changing its name due to its own indecisiveness, has absolutely no decent gigs or interest by record executives. This is until the group finds itself standing outside the electric sign of a club they failed to get hired by, a club by the name of The Four Seasons Suddenly inspired, Castellucio sees this sign and tells his buddies to turn around, at which point he says “oh my god, it’s a sign”. The group now decides to call itself The Four Seasons and Frankie chan...

When climate change occurs there are a few major effects that are critical to climate change. First the sun passes through the clear atmosphere with its solar rays which then reach the earth's surface. Then, about 70% of the sun’s solar rays are absorbed by the earth surface making the temperature rise while the rest go back into the atmosphere. Some of the rays escape back out into space, while some are absorbed by gases in the atmosphere. These gases are important because they allow the sun to heat the earth and then the gases get trapped, making the earth warmer. They trap the heat like a big blanket to maintain the planet at a stable temperature.
Throughout history climates have drastically changed. There have been shifts from warm climates to the Ice Ages (Cunningham & Cunningham, 2009, p.204). Evidence suggests there have been at least a dozen abrupt climate changes throughout the history of the earth. There are a few suspected reasons for these past climate changes. One reason may be that asteroids hitting the earth and volcanic eruptions caused some of them. A further assumption is that 22-year solar magnetic cycles and 11-year sunspot cycles played a part in the changes. A further possibility is that a regular shifting in the angle of the moon orbiting earth causing changing tides and atmospheric circulation affects the global climate (Cunningham & Cunningham, 2009, p.205). Scientific studies suggest that all these played a role in past global warming and cooling periods. Today, however, there is a lot of conflict on whether humans are causing a global warming that could be disastrous to humans and all species of plants and animals on this earth. This paper will first explain the greenhouse effect, then take a look at both sides argument, and, finally, analyze the effect of global warming on world-wide sustainability
While watching the video “Planet Earth Pole to Pole” I have learned many things such as One hundred years ago, there were 1 billion people on earth, and now there are more than 6 billion on earth. There are still places on earth where people have yet to interfere. One of the main reasons this is so untouched by humans is because of the harsh climates in these areas. The sun controls the life on earth. If the sun’s rays are too strong things will not grow and if the sun’s rays are weak things will not grow.
Seasons have been around for many years and affect many people in every way. Can seasons really change the moods of several individuals? Seasons are something that no human has effect over and are not something that anyone can change with the click of a button. The world was ordered around having seasons at specific times, but who knew it could affect lives every day. Mary Pinkowish states that, “Ten million Americans suffer from winter depression,” and that is just one season out of the four. Seasonal Affect Disorder is a real disorder that affects many people who should be carefully diagnosed, should know the symptoms and signs, and should know how to treat it.
The body seems to be slower. Motivation to do anything takes a hit. In fact, in a survey taken in Maryland, over 90% of the people surveyed reported that they noticed a change in mood, behavior, and energy levels with the change of seasons.... ... middle of paper ...
direction twice a year, once when the Tropic of Cancer starts moving towards the sun
The biggest difference between summer and winter is the climate. One of the main attractions of summer is the warm weather. I like being outside on a bright sunny day, and letting the sun warm my body. I also like that we get an occasional thunder storm. The excitement fills the air when I see the thunder clouds rolling in. The sound of thunder, and the lighting shows that come from the storms are fascinating. On the other hand winter i...
cools down. Many factors both natural and human impacts can cause changes in earth’s energy
Climate Change can result from both natural events and human activities. Some examples of natural causes of climate change are volcanic eruptions, ocean currents, solar variations, and earth’s orbital changes. Some examples of human activities are fossil fuels, warming of temperature due to industrialization, and deforestation of tropical rainforests. Factors of climate change can change and vary naturally over time. The issue of the fast increase in earth’s temperature over the past years is one of global importance and disputed origin. All these justifications are for the change in the earth’s temperature are valid, however, there is a reason to believe that human activity and carbon dioxide emissions are a great part of the cause for the
My favorite season of the year is summer because of the warm weather, the school vacation, and the endless fun. I really enjoy the warm weather because it’s the perfect atmosphere to do outdoor activities. My favorite part about summer has to be the fact that school is closed for two months. During summer, you’re free to do whatever you want, not worrying about curfew or waking up early for school. Summer time is a great time to relax with friends and family by soaking up the sun at a beach or simply having dinner together.
