What is rap music? To some people it’s a way to release what they’re feeling in a healthy manner, but for others it’s obscene, violent, and against women. Some people like rap because it’s poetic. For others it’s about the beat and the tempo of the music. For me it’s a healthy manner to release my feelings and feel connected to the artists. Rap-music is defined as a style of popular music, developed by disc jockeys and urban blacks in the late 1970s, in which an insistent, recurring beat pattern provides the background and counterpoint for rapid, slangy, and often boastful rhyming patter glibly intoned by a vocalist or vocalists.(“Rap-music”). I define it as music that is about going through life struggles. As stated by its definition rap- music in it’s early stages was performed by mostly inner city African Americans who were being oppressed by “the man”. I believe rap-music is a healthy outlet not only for the artist but for the listeners too. People can feel like they’re not alone, “someone out there knows what I’m going through”. However, some people think rap is dangerous and had some proof in 2008 when a study from The Berkeley, California, “Prevention Research Center of the Pacific Institute for Research and Evaluation” made the correlation between young people that listen to rap/ hip-hop to higher use of alcohol and higher …show more content…

Therefore letting other people know that they are not the only ones going through this. Take for example the song “No Matter What” by T.I. which is about his possible jail time for weapons charges and the death of his long time friend/assistant, Philant Johnson, (Kaufman).
