“A refreshed mind is a creative and productive one,” is a quote written by Kathy Bell, in her book Regression (Bell). In a society that is continuing to regress to the ways of previous historical times, does it make you think that maybe no one is working to keep their mind refreshed and allow our society to grow as opposed to it going backwards? Particular aspects of our society are regressing to ways that can be compared to those of the Paleolithic period, including the way our society's gender roles are portrayed, our ideology and how we treat people, and being civilized. We are reverting to women being the homebodies and taking care of their children and given high expectations, and men being the one in charge. Today's society, like the Paleolithic culture, has a monotheistic religion, and have put people back into groups similar to the groups the Paleolithic people traveled in. Our society today is also turning back and losing its civility, and becoming a selfish, uncaring group of people as a whole. To begin with, modern society as a whole, is regressing terribly to certain ways of the Paleolithic period. For starters, instead of having everyone get along and be one happy society as a whole, we are regressing into small group that we are with almost all of the time, much like the Paleolithic people were (Engler). The Paleolithic people were hunter-gatherers, which our society has not regressed to at this time, and they traveled in small packs of people who did basically everything as one, like modern day cliques. In today's society, we are pressured to fit into a certain group of people. Even if we do not fit into one of the more popular social cliques, we are in our own group of eccentric beings who fail to fit the mold of ... ... middle of paper ... ...one Age. Can you imagine yourself being apart of a group or lifestyle, now imagine yourself not fitting in. Maybe some people think you’re weird, but people just like you understand. Many suggest that it’s dangerous while others want to join. Whatever the reason may be you still consider yourself apart of society. As you grow older you realize that many people have different backgrounds and maybe even distinct behaviors. When people feel a deep need for love or respect, values and morals may be forgotten. It’s their customs, rituals, and beliefs that make up their own culture.
Mark Slouka argues that the humanities are needed to keep individual values and ideas an essential component in education. Rather than relying on the typical mathematical and scientific ways of teaching, the "robotic approach," Slouka believes that remembering and practicing individual values is essential in learning not only in school but in life as well. Values are now only

64-66), author Jared Diamond claims that agriculture as opposed to popular belief, didn’t help civilization bloom, but instead proved detrimental to human lives ever since its introduction. He states that the progressives believe agriculture was adopted due to its efficiency and how it complimented our race. He contradicts this view with multiple studies and expert sources. According to his research, modern day humans are much worse off than their hunter gatherer counterparts due to a variety of lifestyle changes ranging from greatly deteriorated nutritional quality to increased sexual discrimination. He gathers the support from various archaeological research conducted on various remains found in Chile, Greece, Turkey, etc. Archaeologists can further point out the date at which this switch (from Gathering to agriculture) took place. He further establishes that Hunter gatherers may have chosen to change ways with the preconceived idea that the capability to feed more people and reducing the burden on mothers (hence allowing them to bear a child every 2 years instead of 4) would in turn drastically improve quality of life. He concludes the article by emphasizing on how it created disparities between the elite and the commoners and by defending his own kind for having discovered mankind’s biggest mistake and the motive behind
The human race is civilizing each moment of the year. Our society has uploaded from the time when of the local Americans. Hunting has rationalized for the reason that progression of machinery and weaponry. Hunting has fed our homes from the crack of dawn. The advance of hunting has been reorganizing from the natives to current day.
The Neolithic Period, which includes events from 12,000 years ago, is one of the most important revolutions to occur in history. The Neolithic lifestyle was established first in the Middle East, and then later in the Yellow river basin in China, which then spread over the years into the Western Hemisphere. During this time period, the domestication of plants and animals and the development of cities was starting to become more prominent and well known to many different civilizations across many different countries. It consisted of many changes in human cultures from a lifestyle of hunting and gathering to one of farming and settlement, which supported a larger population. As civilizations expanded, so did traditions and techniques. A major technological and cultural change to modern ways of thinking and acting began in Western Europe, and from these beginning new approaches to science and law spread quickly around the world. It spread to countries, causing more people to become aware of when and where to properly irrigate a crop, which type of area had the best security, and other common living strategies. Surely enough, many years later, traditions are the same as they were thousands of years ago. Although traditions may not have changed, the way people think about their God and religions have changed from culture to culture. Throughout the years, men and women from the Middle West completely changed their relationship from nature, to a more independent lifestyle; human beings learned to have more control over their lives.
Ingenuity and technology are the cause for one of the major turning points in the social history of humankind. Social hierarchy, which did not exist in gather-hunter communities, was introduced because of the accumulation of wealth. Some people had more wealth and status (titles) than other, so social
Jared Diamond makes the argument that when humans decided 10,000 years ago to no longer be hunter-gatherers and made the decision to become sedentary and start domesticating their animals and crops, the result is that the human race has experienced a steady downfall. Diamond makes the point that “with agriculture came the gross social and sexual inequality, the disease and despotism that curse our existence,” (Diamond). While the present system certainly is far from being perfected, Diamond’s various complaints and solutions certainly would not be of much use in the present time either.

In our textbook, The Humanities: Culture, Continuity & Change, Henry M. Sayre states, “A culture encompasses the values and behaviors shared by a group of people, developed over time, and passed down from one generation to the next.” (Sayre, 2015) This quote resonated with me, on so many levels, after writing this paper. Hope you enjoy.
