According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary the word “Role Model” is defined as “a person whose behavior in a particular role is imitated by others” (Role Model, n.d.). With just because you have “followers,” that doesn’t make you a role model. In the article “How Kim Kardashian became a role model we can’t afford to lose” by Andrea Peyser (2016), the word “Role Model” is altered from its positive outlook; to a very broad and loosely used word in today’s society. It’s important to choose who we call “Role Models” and how their outlook can be a positive influence instead of a negative one. in the article “Role Model OR Authentic Professional?” by Merz (2015), it depicts the difference between people who are famous and ones that are actual role models, who is a positive influence (Merz 2015). Even though the word “Role Model” doesn’t define whether or not that it is a positive or negative trait, we tend to look …show more content…
Values such as: self-respect, boldness, optimism, and responsibility, are just some of the values most role models tend to possess. Another definition of the word “Role Model” is “Someone that cares enough to set a good example for the kids to look up to (Z, M. 2007). In the article “Moral Motivation” by Brink (1997), goes on to explain why is important we make sure our actions are ethically and morally correct. For example, not posting vulgar images of oneself. Self-respect is one major trait we look for in someone who is a role model; having the feeling that one is conducting themselves with honor, dignity, pride, and confidence. These are qualities that Kim Kardashian does not possess, displayed by her provocative photos and repulsive video, Superstar. These types of careless acts are ones we would not want anyone to follow, not having self-respect for themselves, let alone the responsibility to guide and influence individuals
What kind of example are these celebrities providing to teenagers when they can barely control their life? Role models are supposed to be someone you admire, someone you look up to and try and follow their example. Not someone who lives a fake life and you barely know. As stated in an article called “Why this generation is so completely obsessed with the idea of Celebrity” Adam Pliskin explains the real reason why we follow celebrities as much as we do. This is because we secretly want fame ourselves.
A role model is someone that is sought for guidance, and often admired. When thinking of my own role model, the qualities I wish to have when I become an adult come to mind. When scanning through the many influential adults that have shaped who I am today, deciding on just one role model is a difficult feat. However, I see the person I wish to become, reflected in the life of my dad. For that reason, my role model is my own father.
Lebron James is possible the most popular athlete in the United States. He was born in Akron,Ohio. He was drafted in 2003 by his hometown Cavaliers. LeBron James is a positive role model as he voices his opinions on social topics, he became successful, and he is humble.

It all started on July 6, 1946 in New Haven, Connecticut when Barbara and George H. W. Bush had their eldest son, George Walker Bush. Bush has 5 siblings, John, Marvin, Neil, and Dorothy. Bush’s position in the National Guard was to fly in a F-102A Delta Dagger, a single seater interceptor that played a key role in the United States air
Many people would argue that celebrities are “just like us.” Being a person who has been heavily influenced by celebrities, I would have to disagree with that statement. Of course they are human like anyone else, and they want the same things “normal people” do, too. But the big difference between us and them is that is that they have the power to influence people, whether it is in a positive or negative light. When I talk about celebrities, I mostly refer to actors, since those are the ones that have influenced my life. Actors can be great examples of what it means to be good role models, as their lives and choices can have an impact on anyone's life, and they can profoundly change them for the better.
Why Athletes are Good Role Models Ever since the ancient years, we have admired athletes and the hard work. that they do to achieve their goal of winning. We idolize them and wish we were more like them. What happens though when the realization sinks in that they are human too and that some of them do get greedy and selfish?
With celebrities all over the media, it is expected that some are idolized by their fans, especially the youths. There nothing wrong with people making celebrities their role models. Celebrity role models can be a positive influence by changing people’s lives and way of thinking for the better. On the other hand, when impressionable kids and teens see their celebrity role models do something that is not morally sound, they will come to think that it is acceptable making it more likely for them to do it. This raises the question: should celebrities be role models? For the most part no. Role models are people that are admired by others for their accomplishments and not their status; however, many celebrities
I believe that athletes are some of the greatest role-models on the planet. Athletes are some of the greatest role-models on the planet because they can show people that nothing is impossible because most athletes have insane stories and they can teach everyone something. And I am going to tell you why they are the best athletes. In the article¨Athletes and Sports,¨states that athletes are some of the best role models on the planet.
What is a role model? According to psychologist Frank L. Smell, he credits Random House Dictionary as “the term role model is defined as ‘a person whose behavior, example, or success is or can be emulated by others, especially younger people.’” One columnist states, “ humans have an irrational tendency to look for guidance in life when insecurity and uncertainty creep up as they always do. Being in the media spotlight and displaying some degree of excellence, professional athletes involuntarily steer the moral compass of millions of devout fans”( Denson). Professional athletes should be better role models than what they are today because the public which includes kids of all ages and adults look up to these players. They pay close attention to these athletes every move, on and off the field, court, and rink. The job of a professional athlete is to entertain the public with their talent and skills. Thus, there is no time or place to disrespect veterans, public service personnel like policemen and fireman, nor our country's homeland security.
Role Research When I first received the role of light board operator, I thought that I would be only controlling the spotlights and stage lights. Through my research, I found out that my job scope involved operating the light control board, learning about the various types of lighting instruments and their uses as well as working together with the lighting designer, director and the director to interpret their creative vision into the lighting design. However, my final role as Lights and Sounds coordinator meant that I had to cue both lights and sounds. Initially, I believed that technical jargon such as “animations”, “back projection” and “automated fixture” would be used. However, the technical jargon used in my role was relatively simple,
There is much debate when looking at athletes and their role in being a role model for others. Some such as Charles Barkley argue that they should not have the responsibility of being role models. I would have to disagree with that statement. Athletes, whether they accept this role or not, are and will continue to be role models. A question that is often asked is do we expect too much from our athletes? I say no....I feel that being a role model is in the job description of being an athlete at a professional level. For certain people, these athletes are the only people that they can look up. Children who watch and study these people imitate their actions not only on the field but off as well. I agree with Plato's statement on inner harmony
A good role model inspires greatness in others. In the book “Raisin in a Sun”, Lena Younger is a role model because she was a strong, proud and independent mother to her family. Further, relationships made in college often will open the doors to new opportunities and further advancement.
