The Polar Express is a classic story of a young boy doubting the existence of Santa Claus. One night, when the train to take kids to the North Pole arrives, he decides to go figure out his beliefs. He is growing alarmingly agnostic about what to believe towards the “ Big Man”. Thomas shows the infinite cycle of changing from bad to good by describing the presence of blue. This side of the truth, You may not see, my son, King of your blue eyes In the blinding country of youth… (Thomas Web) Blue is conservative and calming in a positive aspect. But negatively, blue can also relate to sadness, lonely, cold, or depression. You feel these emotions when you experience betrayal, being lied to, or the loss of a loved one. Blue can stimulate so many feelings depending on a situation. This poem differs from the other two poems Thomas has written because it does not directly speak about death. However, this is not to say that death is not included within the topics covered by this poem - there is a bigger picture that is expressed by Thomas. Truth is a hard thing to define and Thomas seems to be trying his best to express his views.
