The book the Pigman by Paul Zindel is a good book. Let me summarize the book for you. John Conlan who is a tenth grader who goes to Franklin High with his friend Lorraine Jensen. The first time they meet each other was on the bus on the way to school. When Lorraine thought that John was acting infantile and started laughing obnoxiously. So Lorraine started laughing obnoxiously. Them and a couple of their other friends Denis and Norton. They play this game to see who can call somebody and stay the longest on the phone. When it was Lorraine's turn, she then dials Angelo Pignati number, also known as the pigman. So she is able to make him stay on the phone for a long time by telling him a prevention by saying she is a charity worker.

day John and Lorraine go to the pigman's house by skipping school. They thought that he was pretty mundane kind of person. Although Lorraine was having a lot of anxiety. On the other hand, John was acting really calm about the situation. So then the Pigman asked them if they would like to go to the zoo with him tomorrow as an avocation. So the next day they go to the Zoo with him. They went to a lot of places like the nocturnal habitat. Then Mr.Pignati took them to see his monkey friend Bobo. Then a couple days later they go with Mr.Pignati to a store where they bought themselves roller blades. A couple of days go by and John and Lorraine become very proficient in skipping school and going to the Pigman's house. They do it almost every day. Then they decide to tell the pigman that they have been lying to him. John and Lorraine both felt mortified in telling him and to hear his reaction. After they tell him, then he comes clean and tells them that his wife had died. Then he teaches them the murder game. It was a game to see what you value most in life. After that, they got their roller skates from the closet and started playing tag on the skates. Suddenly when Mr.Pignati was chasing John up the stairs. At that instant stopped and clutched his chest. Mr.Pignati was having a heart attack. John and Lorraine were in a real predicament when the cops came.
They quickly told them that they were his kids and a bunch of other lies so they wouldn't get in trouble. So the next day after school they went to the hospital to see Mr.Pignati. He then gives them the key to his house and tells them they can go inside the house whenever they wanted. That same day Lorraine made dinner for the both of them. John went upstairs and dressed in Mr.Pignati’s clothes. Soon after that Lorraine then went upstairs to put on Mr.Pignati’s wife's clothes on. Then John kissed Lorraine on the lips on Mr.Pignati’s bed. The next couple of days go by and John seems really upset. He starts to have a putrid attitude and acting really ingrate. Then when Lorraine went upstairs to clean up. She starts to hear a lot of banging and crashing downstairs in the kitchen. She then sees John putting a bunch of hors d’oeuvres onto plates and gets a bunch of drinks out. Lorraine asks what he is doing and he said that he is throwing a little cocktail party and is inviting a couple of friends over from school. Then a lot of friends starts to come over and then before they know it, they are having a party with over 40 kids inside of Mr.Pignati’s house. The Johns old friend Norton comes to the party. When John sees him, he then asks what he is doing. In the background of this, there is a loud band playing and people roller skating down the house. John catches him stealing some of Mr.Pignati’s stuff acting like a
real antagonist.Norton then punches John in the stomach and runs out of the house. By this time, cops start to come to end the party. John races Norton down the stairs and pushes him to the floor and punches him. Then John turns around and see Mr.Pignati back from the hospital and then Norton comes back up and punches John in the face Knocking him out. The cops then take John and Lorraine home to their parents. When Lorraine comes home, she Mom slaps her in the face. The next day John and Lorraine both meet up to call Mr.Pignati to tell him they're sorry and asks him if he wants to come to the Zoo with them to see Bobo. When they arrive at the Zoo and goes to Bobo’s cage. A man who works there tells them that Bobo died. Then when they are on their way to leave. Mr.Pignati then drops down to the floor. Mr.Pignati has passed away, the ambulance comes to drive him to the hospital.

Truth and lies are always in a constant battle; the battle of choosing the truth or giving in and telling a lie. This theme is prevalent in The Pigman by Paul Zindel. The book takes place in Staten Island, New York. It follows a set of events told by two narrators, John and Lorraine. The two narrators are typing the story on a borrowed typewriter in the library. John and Lorraine are writing about what happened to them when they met Mr. Pignati, and what followed. In their story John and Lorraine meet him by a telephone prank, and they go over to his house to pick up money for an illegitimate fund. When they go to his house the man gives them the money and he tries to keep them over for longer than they want. In the next turn of events they end up spending almost every day after school with the Pigman; which he was nicknamed for his pig collection. The kids do many various activities with the Pigman, including; going to the zoo to see bobo, an ugly baboon, Beekman’s Department store, and also just watching television at his house. The three become very good friends, but one day they were playing tag while roller skating and Mr. Pignati has a heart attack. While Mr. Pignati is in the hospital John wants to have a party at the Pigman’s house. The party is a disaster and the forty guests trash the house and they are very obnoxious. Mr. Pignati ends up returning home and finding the mess, he is devastated. John and Lorraine are the only ones that are not able to escape the police, so they are taken home. Lorraine’s mom is extremely perturbed with her, and John’s father says he needs to see a psychologist. Zindel shows many examples of the adolescents in the novel being unable to communicate with their parents and instead misbehaving and lying. He also shows how adolescents are able to overcome this and mature. Zindel shows that love is the key to being able to live as a responsible adult.
