Skills and Abilities of the “Outliers”
Skills and abilities of “outlier” are those who have been given opportunities and they have had the strength and presences of mind to seize them. Gladwell (2008) states that outliers were the benefits of some kind of unusual consequences; such as year and/or month of birth, intelligence, opportunity, practical intelligence, culture, cultural norms, generation, 100,000-hour rule, family history, community/ group culture, value of authority and resiliency.
Gladwell (2008) uses several examples of people who are “outlier”. For example, he uses Bill Gates, Steve Ballmer, Paul Allen, Steve Jobs, Eric Schmidt, Bill Joy, The Beatles and describes why they are “outliers”. He uses their background and the example …show more content…

His examples focus on cultural norms that people need to be aware off and that make people different due to their historical family traditions, upbringing and opportunities or lack of opportunities provided to them. These existent or non-existing opportunities mold and help in the individual succeed in his/her career goals, they have presence of mind to seize them. “Outliers” not only seized opportunities but the attitude to master anything. If teachers knew the students cultural honor they would better understand their students, their work ethic to leverage the students attitudes and behaviors. Thus, teachers can create and develop meaningful lessons that engage students and ensure academic success. This can be achieved by having staff training on year and/or month of birth, intelligence, opportunity, practical intelligence, culture, cultural norms, generation, 100,000-hour rule, family history, community/ group culture, value of authority and resiliency affects students’ academic success and how it hinders classroom performance. Knowing this teacher can plan lesson accordingly and ensure that students have opportunities for success, using students background and cultural group as part of the learning process.
Riverside County Office of Education like other organization focus on state, federal and local mandates but lacks looking inward and ensuring that staff personal professional needs are met. As professional’s staff seeks to feel accomplished and have opportunities for fulfillment. The organization is focused on the demands they need to meet that they forget to create a cultural legacy within the organization for staff to strive for.
