This chapter discusses the occupational theoretical framework that guides the EBOT project as well as creating a visual, conceptual model. In addition, the chapter correlates the EBOT to the occupational therapy practice framework and AOTA Vision 2015. The chapter also provides support for the impact of the EBOT project on sustainability of practice and the occupational therapist skills and knowledge to support the EBOT project. The EBOT project provides for a trial of a consultative series that with modification could be an online educational continuing education series such that the occupational therapy practitioner could reach preschool teachers across the state. Next, the EBOT supports the occupational therapy practitioner as a member of a collaborative team and supports access to occupational therapy practice skills outside of the traditional school-based model to a community model further supporting the American Occupational Therapy Vision 2025 (American Occupational Therapy Association, 2017). The premise of the EBOT is that by using consultation with preschool teachers more students are impacted than using a direct student service model. Furthermore, teachers gain confidence and mentor other teachers creating a chain of change. Also, the student’s impacted by the changes made in their preschool environments gain skills and demonstrate greater kindergarten readiness which in turn positively impacts their academic career. Stronger students increase high school graduation rates and go on to pursue higher levels of education, supporting creating a resilient future (Dennis, Dorsey, & Gitlow, 2015).
