You ask them if they want freshly grated parmesan cheese and as your grating the cheese, you poor the cheese in their lap instead of their food. It was a completely an accident that you apologized for right away. This example, would be considered a mistakes, which are unavoidable at times. As an employer it is easy to move past simple mistakes that employees will make, but vindictively making choices that are unacceptable for the company cannot go overlooked. Treating someone with disrespectfully or threatening in any way using the internet is considered to be a type of bullying. In the workplace, cyber bullying of any kind is not acceptable and should be stopped as soon as possible. It needs to be clear within the company’s policies that bullying will not be tolerated between employees or any other staff member. According to this study that polled approximately 3,000 people on the subject of bullying “96% of respondents indicated they’d been bullied in the workplace” and “62% of bullying came in the form of sabotaging work and/or reputation; 52% in ‘browbeating, threats and intimidation’, and 4% in actual physical assault” (Biro, 2014, p.1). In fact, not only will termination be a must but further action may need to be taken. All forms of harassment are bad and should never go overlooked, but sexual harassment is something that would need to be handled quickly, so that everyone in the workplace feels comfortable. According to an article written by Woodard, “Sexual harassment is defined as the unwanted physical, verbal, or written conduct that is sexual in nature, including inappropriate physical contact, sexual or lewd comments, or inappropriate behavior” (2010). Depending on what the employers felt was the right approach, sexual harassment may need to be also punished through the police. There are laws that were put in place to protect employees in the workplace against sexual harassment. Sexual harassment is not right for anyone to go through, but employers have the responsibility to make sure that every employee knows that it will not go overlooked, but punished harshly. The company can lose current and possibly future employees because of the backlash and hostile environment that was created, and employees may feel uncomfortable due to legal action that may be taken by the victim or victims (Woodard, 2010, p.1). Employees should always feel that when they are at work they are in a safe environment and will not be harassed in any way. This is not an easy task for companies, since it takes a lot of courage for the victim or
There are many preventative measures that even the smallest employer can take to ensure these claims are to the absolute minimum. The rules and guidelines that the company have put in place should be available to each and every employee right from day one of employment. The rules should be explained from someone of authority to ensure the seriousness and gravity of the situation around sexual harassment in the workplace. Each and every employee should feel comfortable, safe and secure while within and on the grounds of the place of employment. Furthermore the employer should take the opportunity to refresh these rules and guideline with each and every employee on regular intervals to ensure maximum employee

This particular article tells the reader how to manage and even prevent sexual harassment with four steps. The first step is to have a sexual harassment policy that is clear and very well defined (Mulligan & Foy, 2003). The second step is to look at what sexual harassment currently exists within the organization; these areas need to review immediately (Mulligan & Foy, 2003). Thirdly the business needs to make sexual harassment training a top priority for all employees (Mulligan & Foy, 2003). Lastly, the report states employers must have a complaint procedure in place for sexual harassment resolve and investigation (Mulligan & Foy,

Sexual Harassment is unwanted sexual harassment by someone at work, be it a boss or another employee, this is what I have always thought how sexual harassment in the workplace was defined. It is so much more. Sexual harassment is now defined as telling someone they look nice, yes that is sexual harassment today. Telling someone they smell good, yes that is sexual harassment today. There are so many issues that can be considered sexual harassment that there are too many to name them all in this one research paper. You cannot pick up a newspaper or turn on the news without hearing about the latest sexual harassment case. This happens everywhere, big companies, small companies, movie stars, schools, restaurants, warehouses, bus drivers, all industries, no place is immune. . Human resource departments have to stay current on all examples of sexual harassment; they must keep current with all the legalities involved in educating staff and pursuing sexual harassment cases in the workplace.

By federal law, you are protected by any form of harassment or discrimination in the workplace. Sexual harassment is so ordinary in the workforce that frequently we fail to even recognize harassing behavior as immoral. This is because so many of us--women and men alike--have become desensitized to offensive behaviors. Sexual harassment in any form is unacceptable behavior and should not be tolerated by anyone. It undermines our ability to study, to work, and to feel like effective, empowered people in the world.

The only solution to tackling this situation is to speak up when this situation happens to someone. Encourage the victim of sexual harassment to come forward and report to proper authorities as soon as possible. The longer the victim waits, the less probability that it will be corrected. If there is someone out there that has been a victim of harassment, confront the person regarding the situation. Call for help and consult with your local HR representative or appropriate authority.
In today’s workplace, sexual harassment is a growing problem. The legal definition of sexual harassment is any unwelcome sexual advance or conduct on the job that creates an intimidating, hostile or offensive working environment. Another definition is the making of unwanted and offensive sexual advances or of sexually offensive remarks or acts, especially by one in a superior or supervisory position. Women and men of all ages, backgrounds, races and experience are harassed on the job. Sexual harassment encountered in workplaces is a hazard across the world that reduces the quality of working life, jeopardizes the well-being of women and men, undermines gender equality and imposes costs on firms and organizations.
