The Navigation Wheel is a framework used when evaluating ethical dilemmas related to decision-making. The framework states six aspects which should be used as a guideline to keep track of relevant decision factors (Kvalnes & Øverenget, 2012). I will now use the Wheel, based on normative ethics, to analyze the decision-making with myself (independent customer, unrelated to any company) considering buying a product with documented connections to cobalt productions in Congo.
Law – Is it legal?
The legal aspect refers to whether the course of the action is legal. If the answer to the question is no, regarding both national and international law, then you should not perform the action (Kvalnes, 2015). As long as the products are legally sold in approved stores, as a regular consumer I have to assume that buying such products is in line with both national and international laws.
Identity - is it in accordance with our values?
The identity aspect considers whether the action is in accordance with my values, and if I’m willing to be identified with the action (Kvalnes, 2015). I find this aspect some challenging to discuss, since I haven’t made up some cleare personal

Considering the discussion in the previous aspect (morality), the reputational effect of my decision depends on what is the common moral belief. If the conclusion is that the action is morally right, or at least not morally wrong, the action would most likely not affect my reputation. Otherwise, it would. The method of ethical decision making which was developed by Dr. Cathryn A. Baird presented two components contained in all ethical decisions which are; The Four ethical Lenses and the 4+1 Decision process. The Four Ethical Lenses issue claims that different ethical theories and the means in which we tend to approach the situations which form part of our ethical traditions are looked at in four different perspectives. From each perspective there are different values on which to decide whether the action taken is either ethical or not and each lens also lays emphasis on determining whether the decision made is of ethical requirement. In the 4+1 Decision Process, people who are responsible for making final decisions in an organization do it using four specific decision making steps and eventually will end up with one extra decision which gives a chance to reflect.
