Recommended: Asian art history

My Adventure At the Ringling Museum My adventure started off with a google search of the The Ringling Museum to find directions and hours of the museum. I chose the Ringling Museum because it was the closest museum that I have not ventured. Before looking on the museum’s website for the details I thought it was just a circus museum but to my amazement the Ringling Museum was so much more. It has a Museum of Art, CA’D’ZAN (“House of John”), education center, FSU Center for performing arts and the Bayfront Gardens.With it being so much more than a circus museum I was excited to get this adventure underway. When I arrived at the museum, ticket in hand and was given a map of the grounds like at Disney World, I was ready to get started. I started my day going to the Museum of Art to see Ringling’s private European art collections. The galleries took my breath away and ready to view the art differently, learning the art history dynamic in class. The galleries were arranged by time and geography. The galleries were made for the artwork so elements of the art pieces were built in the architecture. John Ringling purchased large pieces of art and from the artist that were going out of favor at the time. After exploring the main galleries I headed to the Searing Wing that display special exhibitions from Asia throughout the year. The Asia exhibit was Picturing Japan which was hand tinted illustrations of Japanese life back in 1896. The gallery was painted all white with the photos lining around the room at eye level height with the descriptions to the right of each photo. In the middle of the gallery contained three partitions containing the explanation of the art and a map of Japan. On the other side of the partitions was photos of ... ... middle of paper ... ...seum that will open next year in the fall, how exciting. It is well worth the visit and will go back to finish exploring all they have to explore. Driving home I called my sister to let her know that when she comes to visit in April I will be treating her to a trip to the Ringling Museum. My Sister is the artsy and well traveled one of the family. I think she will be impressed with what I have been learning in class. I took my teenagers during their spring break and they were very impressed on the things I could point out and tell them about. It was a beautiful day with the kids and sharing some of the knowledge I have gained from this class. I loved this assignment because it opened my eyes to new things and I would be assuming the Ringling Museum was just a circus museum for years.     The “superstar” museum gained this status by considering every important detail during its establishment and initial phases of conversion from royal palace to museum (Gombault, 2002). For instance, lighting is a factor that affects the manner in which artwork is viewed and can be properly appreciated. When determining the proper lighting for the Louvre, Comte d’Angiviller, strongly believed that natural, overhead lighting was the most effective solution (McClellan, 1994, p. 72). The same determination impacted the decision to add skylights at the Met. During the initial phase, architects Vaux and Mould, added skylights to the upper floor, and windows to the lower floor that provided a natural light solution (Heckscher, 1995).     The Natural History Museum is extraordinary place to explore and learn. It’s fun and breathtaking. The museum served as an agricultural fairground from 1872 until 1910. The original structure of the building from the 1913 and today’s structure are combined with a blend of many styles. Like a Spanish Renaissance ornamentation in the terracotta trimmings. There is a Romanesque style in the arched windows and the brick walls. The Beaux-Arts tradition is a T-shape floor plan. The building measures 75 feet in diameter with three wings.
