Louisiana Purchase Negoatation

The Louisiana Purchase was the result of Manifest Destiny by Thomas Jefferson. Jefferson wanted to build a bigger nation than what it was. This was one of the biggest and famous negotiations in U.S history. However there was deceit and war between this negotiation between France, Spain, and the United States. All the nations mentioned own a part of the United States but the real question was who wanted it more?

The Louisiana Purchase was a purchase to expand the United States by Thomas Jefferson. Jefferson was worried about the future of New Orleans. Currently at the time New Orleans was owned by Spain. A treaty was installed so that Americans could trade along the Mississippippi and the main port of New Orleans.
Southerners of the United States were afraid that Napolean was going to free slaves in the south. This in theory of the Southeners would lead to slave rebellions. Southeners urged Jefferson to push war on Napolean but it wasn’t worth it. Jefferson new that Napolean wanted to build a vast amount of sugar farms in this territory. This started conflict between the United States and Spain with a non-declaration war. Meaning that there were some ship fights but not all out war. Napolean was at it again with the right words at the right time. Napolean tried to convince the U.S to help them seize Spain for their West half of Florida. Napolean once again turned on his decietfulness and had his brother occupy Florida. Napoleans brother did not give Florida up so the United States had to purchase the rest of it from Spain.
