The Last Jedi is the latest highly anticipated installment in the new Star Wars trilogy. Does this film live up to the previous installments or does it disappoint?
The movie picks up moments after the end of The Force Awakens. The Resistance is fleeing from Kylo Ren and the First Order. Elsewhere in the galaxy, Rey is seeking Jedi training from Luke Skywalker. The Last Jedi’s storyline is great other than a few side plots that were not very necessary to the overall picture. The movie is at its strongest when it is focused on the Jedi and Rey’s training. It is at its weakest when it is following Finn and the newest character, Rose. Some of the overall character development and direction in Episode 8 was disappointing. The direction they took Luke’s character could have been handled in a much better way. The largest character disappointed lies within Supreme Leader Snoke. The mysterious character from Episode 7 once

Poe had a lot more to do in this movie than he did in the previous episode. It was also very fun to see Rey continue her journey through the Force while also learning more about her past. This is the last movie the beloved, late actress Carrie Fisher starred in. General Leia Organa’s character is prominent and crucial to the plot. The Last Jedi does her final outing as Leia justice and pays its respects to Fisher. Other standout components of The Last Jedi include the sound and score and Steve Yeldin’s cinematography. The score incorporates themes from previous films in the saga with subtle changes that make the pieces sound new. The cinematography was beautiful. The color contrast between the white ground and red dust in the final battle sequence on the mineral planet Crait. The CGI was a tremendous accomplishment. There isn’t a shot in this movie you see and think is fake. You even believe the space battles where there isn’t a single tangible part of the set is
Rogue One not only surpasses the other films in the franchise, but it does so in a clear and well thought out way. It's a film that had no reason to exist but it does meaningfully with a concise plot. The exposition event is when Director Orson Krennic invades Jyn Else's home and tries to make her father Galen Erso work with the Empire. This ends poorly and the Empire killed Galens wife and takes Galen into their ship while Jyn barely escapes. Rising action then takes place when Jyn, K-2SO and Cassian arrives at the holy city of Jedha. They soon discover Saw Gerrera and find out that they need to get the Death Star plans. They then head to Eadu to find Galen Erso and after sometime arguing head to the Imperial’s base on Scariff. The climax occurs when Jyn Erso is about to send the Death Star plans to the rebellion but confronts Krennic. Cassian defeats him and he goes with Jyn to the beach while the watch the planet blows up. The falling action is when Darth vader inceps the Death Star plans but the rebels escape. The resolution is when Prisons Leia is asked what the plans mean and she says Hope.
The famous Star Wars is a movie from the epic space film series directed by George Lucas premiered in 1977. Since there are multiple Star Wars movies in the series, this paper will be focusing on the first movie of the series called Star Wars: A New Hope.
My reasons for this opinion are all because of the Disney movie Star Wars: The Force Awakens. First, the two movies The Force Awakens and the New Hope have the exact same plots. In all The other movies of Star Wars each plot is very different. In The Phantom Menace, the first movie in the Star Wars saga, the plot is that
Jedi hero Anakin Skywalker is pulled into the dark side of the Force and Palpatine appoints him to become Darth Sidious's new apprentice Darth Vader. The Jedi are all but eliminated with Obi-Wan Kenobi and Jedi Master Yoda forced into
Besides from the visual effects in this film, the soundtrack also plays a large role in the setup of this
Success can be defined as achieving multiple goals in your life, whether that’d be passing a final, making the dance team, losing weight, etc. You either achieve these goals, or eventually undergo a wild goose chase. Life is truly a journey in which you discover unknown traits about yourself. But can you become successful without prior knowledge of the world around. How drastic can the support from your parents or any help from others benefit your future and chances of being successful? In the book, The Outliers, Chapter 4 The Trouble with Geniuses, Part 2, Malcolm Gladwell addresses to the reader his claims on success and that the community you are exposed to is key. “It takes a country to raise a community.”- Clint Davis, meaning the child’s,
the history of Jediism, the current (as of the end of the last movie) status of
Besides the great components that has formed, what I unlike many of the critics believe to be one of the greatness movie of all time, an aspect of the film that does not seem to disappoint is the special effects, more specifically, the CGI’s. BBC News states that “it is this hyper-real movie magic that has made the Oscar-winner one of the most sought after visual effects supervisors in Hollywood.” Oscar winning Scott Farrar was the visual effects supervisor in the entire preceding Transformers trilogy. The movie offered “a tour de force of special effects, even if the critics were less kind about the movie's storyline”. While some may say that the visual effects used in the film were too much and sometimes unnecessary, there is no doubt that Farrar achieved great lengths and challenged future innovators of the visual and special effects industry.
Star Wars is a science fiction adventure novel. The symbolism and characterization was really excellent in the story. The story gives a great look into the future as it has many different types of things we have not yet invented; blaster rifles, space ships that go the speed of light, fat alien slugs, and beam swords. The plot of the story sucks you into the novel and makes you want to continue reading the novel.
Star Wars is a great example of excellent sound quality in a movie. There are dozens of different sound effects that make this movie a classic. The most commonly overlooked piece of audio in a movie is the character’s voices. The voices in Star Wars play a large part of the movie. Each character has a distinct voice and a distinct way that they speak. Darth Vader has an extremely deep voice and speakes in long draw out words, to help show how evil he is. Han Solo has a rugged sounding voice and is very direct when he talks. Han is considered to be a tough guy who likes to be a loner, yet he has a sidekick. Luke Skywalker has a soft, young sounding voice to show how inexperienced he is. CP-30 is a robot who has human qualities and has a crackly voice that shows how nervous he is and how much of a wimp he is. Other aliens in the movie in the movie make weird noices that have to be translated at the bottom of the screen.
The First of the three part series, Star Wars, is the tale of a band of
The 1970s was a time where the film industry began to strive of the usage of television and its ability to presell films while reducing the possibility of losing tons of money on films. Producers began to shift genres and venture outside of the box. This set up George Lucas’s Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope to be a huge blockbuster. It took the audience’s desire and passion for technology and heroism to the next level. A shift from the traditional American West to the galaxy and beyond, “Americans were no longer willing to follow the lone cowboy” (Quart 122). The old traditional Hollywood had seemed to be long gone, especially in the 1960s, however in the 1970s, Hollywood still had the ability and resources to create worlds that paralleled
After J.J. Abrams wowed audiences with 2015's "Star Wars: The Force Awakens", it seemed impossible that a sequel could be any better. However, director and writer Rian Johnson's "Star Wars: The Last Jedi", has just beaten the odds by not only being a great sequel, but possibly the best entry in the "Star Wars" franchise. Picking up immediately where "The Force Awakens" left off, "The Last Jedi" follows Rey (Daisy Ridley) as she attempts to persuade Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) to train her as a Jedi before the evil First Order brings a swift end to the Resistance. Meanwhile, ex-stormtrooper Finn (John Boyega), hot-headed pilot Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac), and newcomer Rose Tico (Kelly Marie Tran), construct a plan to escape and brind down the First Order.
In fact, generally the special. effects are awesome, close to perfection even they also manage to. convey the massive scale of destruction exceptionally well. Without this fantastic leap in visual technology, I think the film would be. utterly dead.
The role of music in modern film has a large impact on the audience. Wether its creating suspense, release, building up a a scene, breaking down a scene, or attracting attention to certain characters or objects, music undoubtably makes a difference on how these movies are presented. When looking at music in modern film, three general tendencies can be noted from each example. The incorporation of the principles established by Wagner’s music dramas; the assimilation of ever-changing trends in popular music; and the constant search for fresh, new sounds, including resources from across the globe, are the three general tendencies noted. While each composer created an individual sound, these tendencies are found in each listening example presented
