The painting represented above titled The Last Hours of Abraham Lincoln shows the last moments of Abraham Lincolns life. It’s a 52x98 in oil painting painted by a man named Alonzo Chappel (1828-1887) and was later bought by the Chicago History Museum where it is available to view today. In the painting it shows a total of 47 people surrounding Lincolns bedside. This is an exaggeration for what the room was really like. In the painting it shows the room being extremely large while in reality it was only big enough to fit less than a dozen people. Chappel most likely did this for symbolism. The extra people behind Lincoln may be representing the people of America mourning the death of the President. This painting did do a fantastic job at showing
