The Land of 10,000 Lakes
My favorite part about my Minnesota vacations were the fishing trips I went on with my
dad. We would wake up very early in the morning, even before the sun was up. As the birds were just beginning their morning songs, I rolled over in bed, still half asleep. As the thoughts of heading out on the lake and catching fish entered my mind, I was quickly wide awake. I got up, and put on my favorite pair of jeans. These jeans have been through a lot, with holes in the knees and a long slit down the back of one leg. Next came my lucky Hinton football shirt that I wore every single time I went hunting or fishing.
When we were dressed, we headed out to the kitchen and ate a quick breakfast of cold
cereal. I loaded up the cooler for the day as my dad made us both some sandwiches. When
everything was packed, we carried out our cooler, rods, bait, and tackle boxes down to the dock. The sky was just beginning to turn a light gray color, and all the trees were standing still. We filled up the boat with our fishing supplies, and I untied the ropes from the dock. The boat was white and blue on the outside, with a matching interior. The engine was always a little slow starting, but that morning it fired on the first try.
On our way out to our favorite fishing place, all the houses along the lake were still dark. The boat ride to our spot was only about twenty minutes, but it was hard to drive fast in the predawn light. My dad taught me that the best time to catch fish in clear water was in low light hours, when the fish couldn’t see the boat. Only one other fisherman was out as early as us, but we both knew that more latecomers would be arriving with the light. Finally, we arrived at the spot where we loved to fish. Every year we went to the exact same place on the lake because this is where we have always caught the most fish. I always liked to sit in the back of the boat and fish straight out behind us. My dad went up front and controlled the trolling motor, pushing the boat perfectly over the drop-off where the walleyes liked to float and wait for food.
A few days had past, and we were still in that dark, wet, and cold place. They gave us food and water, but we are very scared of these white men. Later I found that we had being sold to work for other white men. The dark, wet, and cold place was a boat.
When he was going on the date he brought the fishing pole on to the boat. When there was a fish on his line he paid more attention to the fish the when she was talking. He also thought that that fish

It was a warm rainy June night the humidity was high which made it even harder to breathe on the crammed boat. My family was asleep on the constantly rocking boat suddenly the boat shook, but my family was still fast asleep. I couldn’t seem to fall asleep so I got up and stepped out on the cold wet steel boats upper deck to get some air. When I got outside I realized that it was pouring bucket sized rain. I saw increasingly large waves crash furiously against the lower deck. Hard water droplets pelted my face, I could taste the salt water in my mouth from the spray of the ocean. Suddenly A massive wave slammed hard against the ship and almost swallowed the boat. Wind gusts started kicking up. I held onto the rail grasping it as if it were my prized possession. Suddenly I was blown
A shooting here; a shooting there; an every day occurrence heard in the newspapers and on the news channels on television. New media are reporting a shooting somewhere. Whether the shootings are accidental or intentional; they are happening across the United States. Nevertheless, in today’s society, gun violence is sparking debate and controversy on how to control gun violence. Throughout the country, thousands of laws and regulations have been created to aid in the control of guns. Through much study, the gun laws and regulations in place have very little effect on the number of gun related injuries and deaths. More needs to be done to establish an effective way to control gun violence.
I was excited when, in the middle of Fall, which is also fishing season, my cousin Jerad asked me if I would like to go fishing with him and his brother Justin. I quickly replied that I would, and when Jerad came to pick me up the three of us piled into his little Dodge pick-up and headed for Cow Camp.
“If there’s even one thing we can do, even one life we can save, we have an obligation to try” (Barack Obama). In America, safety has always been a priority when it comes to the security of its citizens. However, one continuity that has always remained since the country was founded are guns. Guns for many Americans are a source of protection in the case of an emergency or even for sport such as hunting. In current times, the topic of gun control has become a major issue due to the rapid increase in armed shootings across the nation. There is a necessity for more effective gun laws in America as well as better enforcement when it comes to arms. The United States should place more effective restrictions on gun control laws in order to maintain
Gun control is one of the hottest and most controversial topics in our society today. “Gun control” is an extensive term that relays to all sorts of restriction on guns. Such as what firearms can be bought and sold, who can have or distribute them, who and where they can be carried, and what duties both the seller and the buyer have to report purchases to the government. Despite the fact that there are strong opinions on both sides of this argument, the facts show guns are involved in most of all violent crimes.
In a single year, 2007, "guns took the lives of 31,224 Americans in suicides, accidental shootings, and homicides." These shocking statistics not only prove that violence from the misuse and abused of gun privileges are a leading cause of death in this country, but they also show that stronger gun laws are needed to prevent innocent children, women, and men from this. Murders can happen accidentally with a firearm if the weapon is loaded with ammunition and not locked in a safe. Nevertheless, if 30,000 Americans died from a firearm in a single year, action is needed to enforce stronger gun control laws to avoid this many
Gun Control is a highly controversial issue in the United States for the past several decades. From assassinations to mass shootings, every time guns violence comes together the issue surfaces. People argue that we should act on stricter gun laws in the U.S. to hinder the crime rate. The nation is divided in this issue; both sides taking a firm stance in what they believe what should be done with guns.
“Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time.” - Thomas Merton. Art is a huge influence on the minds of children. It plays a big factor in the way children want to learn. Art keeps they're minds open to imagination and keeps them interested in learning new things. Kids are more interested in learning when there is some kind art involved. They have an unbelievably great memory and seeing or drawing pictures helps them retain things a lot better than they would if it was just told to them. It is used in all subjects in school because these are obvious and known facts. Art can heavily influence math, science, and literacy. Children with disabilities or have trouble concentrating can use art as an outlet. When they get mad, give them some paint and a paint brush. Taking out they're frustrations on a piece of paper rather than on themselves could result in a masterpiece and could reveal an amazing talent hidden beneath they're frustrations.
