The Kurdish people are mainly made up of Sunni Muslim people. Most of the Kurdish people live in the area of Turkey, Iraq and Iran. Before World War I, the Kurdish life was very nomadic and revolved mostly of sheep and goats. During the early 20th century, The Kurds started to become nationalistic. The treaty of serves that was signed in the 1920, gave all of the Middle East countries there freedom. The Kurds were brutally treated by the Turkish government and people. The Kurdish have been fighting a very uphill battle ever since these countries got there freedom.

There are not a set number of Kurdish people because of ever changing characteristics. There is said to be about 6 to 12 million Kurds in the country of Turkey. Since the Kurds have a small population in proportion of Turkey, they are considered a minority. The total population of Turkey is 74 Million. That means that the Kurdish population of Turkey is 12.3% of their total population.

The Kurds are located mainly in the Middle East. They live in the mountainous regions of Iraq, Iran and Turkey. Turkey has the most Kurdish people out of any country in the world. There are about 8 million Kurds in Turkey. When the Ottoman Empire was broken up, the Kurds were promised independence and that’s why most of the Kurdish people moved and stayed in Turkey.

The total Zulu population is about 10 million people in eastern South Africa and Shaka Zulu. Their language is called Zulu and has been derived from Bantu. Most Zulu people practice Christianity but a lot of people like to practice their traditional form of animism.

Hmong
The Hmong are a group who originated for Mongolia thousands of years ago. Since then, they have migrated into the mainland of china. The Hmong people speak their own language of Hmong, there native language. The Hmong religon is Animalistic. The total population of the Hmong group is 4 to 5 million people.

    Turkish-Syrian relations have almost always been soured and hostile in some fashion, dating back as early as the 1500’s. With a perpetual tit-for-tat policy and retaliation method that has been in effect between the two nations, it wasn’t until around 2003 or so in which Turkish relations to Syria had turned mostly friendly in response to the United States’ invasion of Iraq and Assad growing concerned over Syria being invaded as well. To gain more allies and help deter against this, Assad looked to Turkey for support, who was not only happy to better their ties with Syria, but was also in strong disagreement with the United States’ decision to invade Iraq as well. That is until the last five years in which the acting government in Syria has become increasingly more violent and hostile to it’s own people; essentially forcing the Turkish government to reject the growing friendly ties in the name of democracy. The geographic placement of Turkey in relation to the Middle-East and Europe, and particularly Syria, puts the country as a whole in a precarious situation from multiple powerful influences, such as NATO, the EU as well as the UN, and on the inverse, major Islamic figures and traditions held in the region. Because of this, Turkish history has been shaped and formed from the two major influences pulling on the country in very contrasting ways: The west, and the benefits of modernity and non-secularism in the state, and the East, and the fundamental religious beliefs of many who reside there who do not wish to break tradition or stray from their fundamental beliefs.     The Sunni and Shiite branches of Islam have been feuding for hundreds of years dating back to the beginning of the Islamic religion. The deity or god of the Sunnis is Allah. The Sunni branch of Islam is the larger of the two branches with over 80% of the Muslim population. The Sunni are the majority in most of the countries that have Islamic followers. There are a few different translations of what Sunna stands for, one of which is “Habitual Practice.” The differences between the two branches can be traced all the back to the 7th century CE when the disagreements as to who should succeed Muhammad. Sunnis believe that the Muslim community should maintain the right to select who the successor to Muhammad is going to be. The Shiite branch maintains the belief that Muhammad has selected his son-in-law to be the successor. Even though the two branches agree on most matters, the Sunni put more power behind god and his determination of fate, and are more inclusive about their definition of being Muslim. The Sunni place heavy belief in the role of religion in some aspects of life and a lot of weight is put on the Islamic law known as Shariah as the standard for a vast range of social issues including marriage and divorce.     Dating back to the Ottoman Empire, tensions between the Kurds and the state were apparent. As the Republic of Turkey developed, a strong sense of nationalism engulfed the country, which led to the oppression of many non-Turkish elements of society. Through this oppression we see attempts in the 1920’s and 1930’s at Kurdish autonomy with the eventual development of the PKK in 1978. With the first armed attack against Turkish soldiers in 1984 we see the issue gaining pace and becoming more severe. The Kurdish problem has claimed the lives of around 35,000 people, displaced even more, and has created economic and political problems not only domestically, but also internationally. Becoming one of Turkeys most important security issues, there have been attempts at peace on multiple occasions, but until now they were to no avail. This essay attempts to address various aspects of the Kurdish Problem; the domestic implications the Kurdish problem has created, such as the political disarray that develops when discussing the creation of pro-Kurdish parties, their opposition, and their inability to have any form of success within the government. The “terror problem.” The economic impact associated with regions most closely related to the Kurdish people. International implications dealing with Turkey, it’s neighbors, and the United States. Syria and Iraq are essential to discuss when dealing with the Kurdish problem because they add greater context to an issue that spans along the borders of multiple states.
