Technology is very useful in the lives of humans when they have the ability to control it. It has always been used for making lives easier and for creating entertainment. What if a man made technology were able to develop a mind of its own and decided to disobey the human’s commands and did what it wanted? What if it developed a lot of power and knowledge that it could use against humanity? The movie Wall-E, shows some of the possible effects of technology's advancement and potential capabilities, both good and bad. The movie also makes people think about the influence that technology might have on humans today.
In the movie Wall-E, technology has grown into a very important role for the human race. It has a job on earth, which is to clean up the garbage that the humans have thrown everywhere, cluttering the earth and making life on earth unsustainable. This technology

was created by a company called BNL, who were successful in implementing an advanced technology that creates robots with artificial intelligence that gather garbage by putting it inside its own compartments, compacts the garbage into a cube, and then neatly stacks the cubes, eventually forming a tower. These robots are called Wall-E. The company created many of these robots in order to make the clean up process quicker but for a reason untold in the movie, all but one of these Wall-E robots continue to function as planned. The robots could have stopped working properly for many reasons, such as they may have lost all energy when in shade which would make it impossible to recharge since these robots are designed to be solar powered, or they could have been damaged during dust storms because there may have been flying objects that were able to destroy them because of their small size. When the earth was covered with garbage and people were no longer able to live sustainably, humans built and took a rocket ship, which they called Axiom, into space. The Wall-E robots were left on the earth to do continue to do their job of cleaning the earth but it was taking a very long time since there was only one working robot left. On board the Axiom, humans had taken along robots with different capabilities that were also controlled by artificial intelligence. These robots were created to replace many of the daily jobs that humans were responsible for and made the lives of humans so easy that they didn’t even need to stand. They had hover chairs that could bring them to the places they wanted to go on the ship with holographic screens that allowed people to see their friends and family on a screen in front of them so they could talk. The chairs also had the internet installed to show you the latest trends and menu options of what foods were available. On board the Axiom were many other robots that were controlled by the captain. His autopilot steering wheel was even artificial intelligence. Jobs such as police services, nurses, teachers, janitors and many others were soon done by robots with artificial intelligence so that humans could relax and not have to work. The robots created a world where the whole lives of humanity was considered more efficient. Although technology is very good and has its advantages, it does have some downfalls in the movie that give the humans some issues. One of these downfalls is that the people became very obese. It is obvious in the movie that every person on board the Axiom is larger than ordinary because of too much technology. The fact that humans never needed to do anything physical and only needed to sit, eat, and drink made their lives too easy, to the point where they never left their chairs. This caused the humans to not do any hands on activities or any exercise or anything that had to do with moving. They weren't burning the calories that they needed to in order to work off the food that they were eating and were gaining and kept gaining more weight. This shows that life can’t be focused on only technology, but needs to also focus on the well-being of the human body and health. Also, the fact that humans depended on the use of technology and artificial intelligence to live could end up being very bad if the artificial intelligence made decisions that wanted to disobey the captains law. If that happened, the technology could very well brainwash the humans. This does happen to the humans in the movie and they became brainwashed by the robots. This is seen when Wall-E, while on board the Axiom, turned off a woman's chair computer which made her take notice of the ship for the first time and she realized all of the activities that she was missing out on, like swimming, because of the technology’s control of her attention. This means that the robots did not want the humans to remember the things that they were able to do and that the robots could control all parts of their lives. This shows that the artificial intelligence gained an ability to realize that there were no consequences if human rules were not followed and that the robots had the free power to control their lives. This would leave humanity defenceless since they begin to think that life is only what the robots put on their screens. The movie shows that technology can have a very big impact on living things if not controlled properly and if not monitored regularly by humans. If life was controlled by artificial intelligence, incorrect decisions could be made that could cause a big problems. Another example of the robots not following orders is when Wall-E arrives on the Axiom and is classified as ‘contaminated’ to the cleaning robots who operate on a path that they have to follow. Then, one robot saw dirt tracks that went off its path and the robot decided to take the risk and not follow its rule by going off the path, realizing that there are no consequences and so it follows the dirt tracks that lead to places the path does not. In today's society technology is all around and it’s advancing more each day.
In Wall-E, the technology advanced so much and so quickly that artificial intelligence was incorporated into every part of the humans’ everyday lives. Now when people look online, they can easily find videos and articles about technology and how people are creating robots with artificial intelligence to help humans do work to make their lives easier. In Wall-E, you see the potential of that technology, like the cleaning robot that were created to replace human actions just like in today’s world with robots like the robovac, a technology that vacuums floors automatically so humans don't have to do it manually. If people do not keep the control of the robots carefully, they might develop a technology that could cause harm to humanity. This means that the movie Wall-E is trying to show us that potential dangers of advancing technology and is giving us a good message in making people consider the impact that technology will have and to consider possible problems and plan for solutions so that humans don’t end up being
harmed. The movie Wall-E has shown people some of the potential good and bad effects of technology and how it can make advancement in human society today but it also gives the message that we should be cautious when creating these technologies. It also causes people to consider and realize how easy their lives could be with the use of technology but how much danger they could be creating as well. This makes people think about both sides of technology. It isn't only good and it isn't only bad and we need to always think about keeping a proper balance between the uses of technology and the job of mankind.
Technology has been around as long as people have and has been advancing ever since. It is the reason that we have access to the miraculous tools that we do today. From the forks that we eat our supper with to the cars that get us from place to place technology is everywhere. However, with technology advancing at such a rapid pace, it could pose a threat to our future society. In the short stories “Harrison Bergeron” by Kurt Vonnegut and “By the Waters of Babylon” by Stephen Vincent Benet, the authors describe how bleak society could become if we do not take precautions when using technology.
The Hound is used as a dog to hunt down and kill fugitives who are breaking the law. Mildred takes too many of her sleeping pills which can kill her, so Montag calls 9-1-1. Two people who look like mechanics show up. “They had two machines really. One of them slid down into your stomach like a black cobra down an echoing well . . . The other machine pumped all of the blood from the body and it replaced it with fresh blood” (Bradbury 12). These machines are taking away the jobs from lots of doctors. The Hound is also doing a job that humans can do. Eventually, machines will be able to perform all basic functions that humans can. Then, the machines will take over and over populate all of the needs for humans. In Wall-E, robots do everything for the humans. Robots are created to go onto Earth and look for life to see if Earth is can sustain life again. A robot is made to fly the spaceship, instead of the captain flying the spaceship. Robots are made to the security guards of the spaceship. A robot is made to clean up the Earth while all of the humans are flying in space. “Segways for those unwilling to do something as basic as walk and skyrocketing obesity rates (Chamberlin). The humans were sitting on electrical chairs that they could move so that they did not have to walk, and they became obese. Also these robots are putting the humans out of jobs. The humans could have piloted the ship or hunted down criminals. “47 percent of American jobs could be at risk due to ‘computerization’ over roughly the next two decades” (Soergel). Considering that both of these sources are set in the future, imagine how many more jobs will be lost due to new technology. Mildred and her friends do not even work. These displays are a warning to modern society to not get too caught up in the perks of technology. Do not let these new contraptions come in and make the people less human and take over all of the
.... By comparison, Pixar contrives a more exultant ending. Humanity has now been restored to earth, and the two robotic companions, Eve and Wall-E, fall in love as the story ends. In conclusion, humans being overly dependent on technology can be evident in both dramatic stories; this is because the authors overstress the extravagant yet possible outcome due to overuse of technology. “It has become appallingly obvious that our technology has exceeded our humanity” (“Brainy Quotes” 1).
When talking about the future of technology, one can only imagine what it will be down the road. The future of technology evokes many questions about the preservation of human existence, human advancement and intelligence. Some writers even discuss their positions on the future of technology and human kind. Writers such as James J. Bell, who explains the theory of the ‘Singularity’. In summary, he states that the rate of technological advancement, compared to human intelligence, will one day reach the ‘singularity’ were it will surpass the human mind (pg. 52). We may never know if technology will ever have the power to surpass the human intellect or what the consequences will be if it does attain these capabilities. Will humans still maintain control over them, or will they control us? Theses eight articles illustrate the implicit and explicit control that technology holds over humans in the future.
Technology is supposed to be seen as such an advancement and great accomplishment. What others may not always know is sometimes it isn’t all fun and games, it can be dangerous. As seen when we created the atomic bomb and guns, their only purpose is to destroy and cause pain to others. Although they are not always in use, they are a constant threat to our well being. We need to take into consideration the positives and the negatives of the technology we create today.
I agree with Ray Bradbury, humanity is doomed. Technology has created so many problems, so rapidly, that humans cannot respond to the changes. Technology has become a tool that makes our lives easier, but the negative effects are far too overpowering, making it almost impossible to stop it before it is too late. Examples from “The Veldt,” and “There Will Come Soft Rains,” show the potential dangers that technology could bring. It may seem unbelievable, but just as George Hadley said, “This is a little too real, but I don’t see anything wrong,” (Bradbury 1). Humans cannot see the problem, only past it. Global warming, antibiotic overuse, overpopulation, and modern warfare, are just a few of the threats technology bestows upon us.
The movie Wall-E shows a lot of compelling technology such as automatic chairs and holograms, but did you notice the effects this technology had on humanity? When you first see the round, chubby humans in Wall-e, your first instinct was to probably laugh. Once you really think about it, though, that future might soon become ours. Even though most technology is very useful and convenient, our dependence on it can lower our ability to focus, decrease people skills, and decline physical health as depicted in Wall-E.
With every decision one makes in life there are the pros and cons of said decision. If one were to eat a hamburger after a fulfilling work out the pros are: the hamburger was delicious, the cons: one now has to work off the burger they so hastily ate. Regardless if one sees the impact of the decisions they make, the pros and cons affect ones choices inevitably. Andrew Stanton uses these pros and cons and shows how they affect one’s life in his movie Wall-E. Wall-E focuses on the aspects technology has on humans living in a disposable society and the world around them. Now more than ever education has become a substantial way to gain status quo, but the use of technology is leading to the decrease in this result. The movie Wall-E illustrates the negative relationships humans have with technology in schools resulting in the lack of proper education and laziness in modern society.
We will be looking into the films, Gattaca, and Wall-e. With these two films we will discuss Technology and ethics. To discuss ethics, we must first define ethics, ethics is considered to be the guidelines in which people decide what is “right” and “wrong”. Which can be considered relative as they may depend on the situation and the priorities of the individual. We will be applying ethical dilemmas based on available hypothetical technology displayed in the films. When does technology overreach into the unethical realm, and also whether or not there should be just one person to be able to make decisions for everyone. The similarities between Gattaca and Wall-e is the ethical dilemmas that comes with the technology available to them. There will
In the film Wall-E we are introduced to a distant and future world. In this future world a single company, Buy’n’Large, controls all consumer goods. Humans have consumed and waisted to the point of Earth becoming one giant landfill. The environment becomes so damaged that the earth is deemed uninhabitable, and all plant life ceases to grow. Humans abandon Earth, and their responsibilities, and leave robots behind to clean up their mess while they “go on a cruise”. Technology is has been perfected in this future world and the entire population lives in a fully automated spaceship called the Axiom. People become overdependent on technology, and it makes them both mentally and physically lazy. There are far to many similar trends between our world
Whether technology is with us or hurting us, we still have to use it and it affects our lives daily. We need it to get a hold of someone. We need it to do our jobs. Most importantly, we need it to keep our lives away from harm. There are many ways to manipulate technology, but technology has more good to it than bad. There are those who use it for good, like investigators so they can figure out the real story. Then there are those who use it for bad, just like those who commit cyber bullying along with other minor and major things. We need technology regardless if people argue they like or not. There is no way to stop technology and keeping people from making it better. With the developments in technology, we may be able to enjoy all the pricey luxuries and still enjoy life at the same time.
Technology is constantly changing, growing, and evolving, but with each change in technology we risk our own privacy. With each new update we get we are told it improves our network or life, but in reality it makes it easier to invade our privacy just like in the 1984 novel by George Orwell. There are many parallels between 1984 and our present day, like the over watchful eyes of the government for our own good. . One could say that the human race is more advanced than animals because of the technology that it has. Technology is a great thing, but it can also be used to control people.
Technology is good. It helps man to achieve certain heights but one way or the other technology is destroyin...
Albert Einstein once said, “It has become appallingly obvious that our technology has exceeded our humanity.” Technology is a controversial topic, some say we are depending in excess from gadgets and devices. However, if it wasn’t for technology we wouldn’t be able to experience many benefits.
But later, robots start getting smarter and they take over every aspect of human life, meanwhile, people are forcibly stopped doing stuff by themselves. Finally robots dominated the human race, not in the way of military forces but in lifestyle behaviors. The story was interesting, yet it was also hilarious. Human’s intelligence creates technology, and they are created to serve humans. No matter how smart the technology is, they are still the intelligence of humans.
