Technology is constantly changing, growing, and evolving but with each change in technology we risk our own privacy. With each new update we get we are told it improves our network or life but in reality it makes it easier to invade our privacy just like in the novel 1984 by George Orwell. There are many parallels between 1984 and our present day like the over watchful eyes of the government for our own good. . One could say that the human race is more advanced than animals because of the technology that it has. Technology is a great thing, but it can also be used for controlling people. In the book 1984, George Orwell gives one a great view of the possible horrors that could come out of technology when it's used for the purpose of control. In 1984 the government, or "The Party," controlled the past. They were able to destroy all proof that something did or did not happen. If at the beginning of the year "The Party" published an estimate that 10 million shoes would be produced that year, and only 5 million were produced they would destroy all evidence of them ever having estimated 10 million. They would find all of the newspapers with this and destroy it. The Ministry of Truth (MiniTrue in NEWSPEAK) would have someone change the estimate to something like 3 million shoes. Then the next newspaper article would state that they actually over-filled their quota. This is a very scary thought. "The Party" in the book was able to destroy all of the references that something, even a person, ever existed. Although you KNEW he had, you could never find proof that it was true. The really scary part about this is that we could do this with even greater ease today. Since most information is now kept on disk, and backed up onto even more magnetic media, one could simply destroy all areas where the data said that someone had existed. The only problem would be finding the newspapers and other references, which could be taken care of by agents of the government.Our government is taking steps
Many people today are fighters and make attempts to stand up for what they believe in. Another way 1984 impacted us today is that the novel was a prediction of a controlling government. “If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face—forever” (page 267). Just like in 1984 they had “telescreens”monitoring their every move, we know there are so many surveillance cameras used everywhere we go. There are also microphones and the government is able to tap their citizens’ phone to monitor what they say.

Now we use a few trusted online sources, most of our general knowledge originates from these sources. These could easily be deliberately altered. Thinking about it, when was the last time you saw someone use an encyclopedia? Most people use Google or Wikipedia as their sources. We put trust into these sources when we have no idea where they come from, the information comes from people that voluntarily put them up.

Subjects such as their government, their denial of history, and the use of doublethink and re-education are all parallel between the novel and the poem. Everyday, our world gains a new technology advancement. At first it began with a computer being created in the year of 1822 by Charles Babbage. Which now turned into having an everything being held on a 4.7-inch screen device. Engagements with other individuals are different now. Preferably teenagers would rather create a group message than start a conversation. The amount of terrorist attacks and technology consumed on a daily basis created a suspicion upon the government. The community in Jonestown began as everyone wanting to be there, and then as conditions worsened the people wanted to leave. They were not allowed to, much like 1984. It is a prediction and a warning, clothed in the guise of science fiction, not so much about what could happen as it is about the implications of what has already happened. Rather than simply discoursing his views on the social and political issues of his day, Orwell chose to narrate them into a work of fiction which is timeless in interpretation. This is the reason that 1984 remains a relevant work of social and philosophical commentary more than fifty years after its completion.
Technology has evolved over the years and it also affects the people in the book Fahrenheit 451. The book Fahrenheit 451 is a book about a dystopian society in the future. People have found ways to track your activity, whether it be a dog or a tv remote. In Fahrenheit 451 tech is bad because they monitor people's activity all of the time they also give people bad information. Some of the biggest issues that is becoming compromised today is the issue of privacy, which in the book 1984 was something that the people did not have much of because of things like telescreens. George Orwell’s dystopian novel, 1984, revolves around the government’s control over its society. This government is known as the Party. Orwell’s idea of an oppressive government that controls its society by keeping them under constant surveillance is equally frightening to the ability the US government’s National Security Agency has to access mass amounts of public and private information. Edward Snowden, former NSA employee, believes the American government goes beyond the Party’s Thought Police and telescreens. Snowden’s claim is justifiable because the US government invades the privacy of the people with organizations such as the NSA by using surveillance and controlling information.
The internet and all technological advances give us easier communication and increase productivity, however, at what cost? The loss of one's privacy. It is okay only when it is violated for one's own protection. There are different reason, good and bad, for the loss in privacy. In 1984 the characters don't have privacy due to big brother always watching,the NSA does more snooping than securing, social media does more than connect friends, and technological advances make our lives easier.
