Social media is becoming a larger part of society everyday. Globally, ninety-one percent of internet users have at least one social media account and the average teenager will spend nine hours a day on social media. Social media seems to be taking over society at a rampant pace. Has society become too reliant on social media? Have we lost the ability to communicate in person? While social media has introduced many pathways of communication, it has also been detrimental to self esteem, face to face interactions, and effective communication. Possibly, people are losing the ability to function without the use of social media. With all of the mass communications on social media, it is harder to determine whether or not an article is legitimate or a person is actually who they say they are. News sources are becoming some of the worst people on this topic. They will go and cut out details to make the story match what they want you to hear. They will also take a person's exact words and repeat them however, they will usually take them out of context so this leaves you assuming and they can filter the words you hear so that you are more likely to support their side of the story. This is also causing trouble with people creating fake accounts. Social media has spread to become a dating service, to an extent, causing a new unexpected anger of predators. People may see all of these pictures and have these conversations with someone who seems like a nice young man, and they will talk for a while and eventually go to meet up at a popular spot and the culprit may convince themselves that they like the persons personality after they meet them, because after all, they might not be who they said they were but the enjoyed talking to the person so they will give them a chance. This can lead to a very large danger for unexpecting people because they will get closer with the person and they may let them into their life after a little bit yet after all, the prowler only wants one thing. Another problem social media has caused, especially in politics, is fake news. There will be article that say all of these things and they will trace them back to an unknown source.
