The Importance of the Lord's Prayer to Christians
The Lord’s Prayer is important to Christians because it is what Jesus
gave to his disciples as a form of prayer when they asked him to teach
them how to pray.
Another name for the Lord’s Prayer is the Perfect Prayer. It is
considered the perfect prayer as it includes all the different types
of prayer. Another reason it is called the Perfect Prayer is simply
because Jesus was the one who taught it.
The Lord’s Prayer is accepted and used by all Christians and it
combines us all as members of one community. The prayer stresses what
unites us rather than what divides us.
The Prayer goes:
Our Father, who art in Heaven
Hallowed be thy name
Thy kingdom come thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against
us
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
In this prayer several different types of prayer are included. The
first type of prayer is to show a statement of faith. This is shown in
the first line of the Prayer ‘Our Father, who art in Heaven’. This
means that by accepting that God is up there, in heaven we acknowledge
that he is very involved in our lives.
The next type of prayer used is in the next line ‘Hallowed be thy
name’. This line shows worship and praise. Through this line we pray
that God may be accepted as holy.
The line after this ‘Thy kingdom come thy will be done on Earth as it
is in Heaven’ is a prayer of adoration. This line involves a change of
heart in those who do not yet perfectly follow God’s law.
The next line ‘Give us this day our daily bread’ is a prayer of
intercession in which we are asking for the Bread of the Eucharist
which will help build us up spiritually as normal bread will build us

talks about the importance of sincere prayer as well. He talks of faith and forgivness, all of
the act of prayer. Stump points out since this is the definition of petitionary prayer, prayers of
Teachers around the time when Jesus lived thought that learning was such that the people who wanted to learn should come to them to be taught. But Jesus felt differently and rather than waiting for people to come to him, he went out to find them and then chose them to be his followers. He called them disciples and this word means one who learns. But Jesus chose his disciples carefully as we are told in Mark 1:16-20 and also in Mark 3:13-19. In the first passage, Jesus appoints his first four disciples, Simon, Andrew, James and John. Jesus said to them “Come, follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” (Mark 1:17) In Mark 2:13-17, Jesus calls up the fifth disciple, Levi who was a tax collector, and Jesus later renamed him Matthew. But Levi was not called in the same way as the other four disciples. Jesus was with him at the tax collector’s booth and Jesus simply said, “Follow me” (Mark 2:14) and he rose and followed Jesus.
I agree with Camp’s discussion on prayer because, as the title of the chapter it self says, it demonstrates how Christian disciples trust in God instead of flawed human calculations of how things will turn out. Prayer also helps make us obedient to God’s will, especially when used in a context similar to “The Lord’s Prayer”, where we as Christians ask the Lord to fulfill His will on earth and provide for our daily needs as we take up our cross on a daily basis to help establish His coming
was to aid Jesus Christ to prove his divine identity and to help him establish according to him, “the kingdom of God on earth”. Some of the miracles that Jesus performed were to convince the people of his divinity
Prayer is an intimate one on one conversation with the almighty, wonderful God that you are having a relationship with. It is a special time and you are going before God who is above all.

Growing up in a Christian church, a member of any parish could probably recite the Lord’s Prayer from the many years of repetition and orating on Sunday mornings. Another good example of another prayer that is engraved in the minds of Christians, the Apostle’s Creed, has significant resonance in any Christian community. Even though the Apostle’s Creed is not in the Bible nor is it actually created by the direct twelve Apostles of Jesus, the Apostles Creed is a continuation of the Lord 's Prayer, which stands as an important element in the Christian religions.
According to the Meriam Webster dictionary, prayer is an address (as a petition) to God or a god in word or thought. There are many different religions and everyone has a different way to pray, address, or become closer to their god, gods, or goddess. Most religions have a quiet to yourself kind of prayer and a loud kind of prayer. Hinduism is one of those religions. They have a couple of ways and places to address their god, gods, and/or goddess. They also have daily rituals of praying.
