Walking into the bathroom seeing clouds of vape in your face and all that is all the bathroom smells like. Vaping is becoming a huge problem in schools. Lately, students have been getting Juuls illegally or from older people. A Juul is supposed to replace cigarettes, but each pod has the nicotine value of a pack of cigarettes. Students are very unaware of the health problems following the use of these products. Anderson students are going into the bathroom to go and “hit” their Juul or other forms of vape. Students are beginning to be addicted to these products over time. Eventually, they start going through withdraws after not using a Juul or vape for a certain amount of time. Molly, a senior, stated, “Anderson students should …show more content…
Stanyard stated, “There needs to be more education on the harmful effects [ in order to] hopefully stop the spread of Juuls and other forms of vape.” Most Teachers are not educated on Juuls and what they look like. They are meant to be small to look like a USB flash drive. With most teachers not knowing what they look like, students can get away with them. Even having the risk of getting caught and suspension is not enough for some students to stop. Most students are getting addicted making it hard for them to stop once they start. Mrs. Stanyard stated, “This is breaking the code of conduct listed in the student planner and having teachers periodically check the bathrooms is [unfortunately] needed.” In the Anderson code of conduct, it states that any type of inhalant is a suspendable act. Over time most people get addicted and cause some people to smoke cigarettes. It is best to not to start vaping if you do not already and if you do, do not bring it to school. Juuls and other forms of vape should not be brought to school or used at anytime throughout the day. They can cause harmful long term effects. Also they can cause addiction and could start students to smoke
Electronic cigarettes are more accessible to kids aged 18 and under. Today in the U.S there is a debate about cigarettes being outlawed. Although people in the U.S believe that e cigs should be outlawed because they are easier to access for kids under the age 18 they are causing kids to get hurt by e cigs; however some people might say E-cigs are enjoyable and are better than regular cigarettes.
To begin, chewing gum is fun, but should it be allowed in school? Chewing gum can help students in many ways including helping keep one’s teeth clean and breath fresh. According to New Yorker, “Some people actually feel that chewing gum can stimulate your saliva, which can help keep the teeth clean,” With clean teeth and fresh breath, students can focus on their own work and not on how embarrassed they are. Students may just be distracted from how stinky their neighbors
We can see vapor cigarettes everywhere these days, even becoming a media spotlight. They are advertised in many ways, from an alternative to smoking to a miracle product that has the ability to cure the habit forever. However, the only problem with these claims is that not all of them might be accurate, as far as critics are concerned. To get a good insight on this matter, let us take a look at its pros and cons.
In this day and age where school administrators consider backpacks, lockers, and baggy pants to be potential dangers to students and faculty, what will be next? Perhaps pencils, pens, scissors, and glue will be added to the list of items to ban from schools. These, along with other hazardous educational necessities pose real threats to maintaining an orderly school and should be prohibited.
There is a new trend hitting the market known as e-cigarettes, or “vaping.” Many people believe that e-cigarettes are better than traditional cigarettes, but research shows just how unhealthy and harmful e-cigarettes are for everyone. The FDA has not yet decided if e-cigarettes should be regulated like tobacco products. E-cigarettes are marketed to help people quit smoking and live a healthier nonsmoking life. E-cigarettes are meant to help break the habit of smoking, but why are there so many “toxic chemicals” (Gilger) in the vapor? Is this new invention to help people quit smoking or just another way for tobacco companies to get richer?
Have you ever wondered what happens when you inhale the liquid from a vape? Many people that vape think it's a better alternative than smoking and actual cigarette, or they think it's safer than cigarettes. Vaping actually has many dangers that come with it, like it can cause the body to become weaker in fighting infections, scar the lungs, or can blow up in your face. And though it might be way safer than real cigarettes, there are many things in those vapes that can cause health dangers in the body. Though it's still early in the vape life, many researches have been done to prove of these dangerous things that can cause harm to the inside and outside of the body.
The use of inhalants is a growing problem among teenagers. Inhaling, also called “huffing,” can severely damage someone. Teenagers aren’t the only ones subject to its influence. Adult use is on the rise and younger kids are getting into it. These deadly substances are not something that you have to buy off the street. These are everyday products found in your home. The ease of accessibility is scary since things like paint, markers, and glue are used to get high.
Many actions have been taken on vaping and cigarettes, such as only allowing people over or at the age of eighteen to buy the product and putting warning labels on products. The serious issue is there needs to be action applied to the fact that these products can kill a human being. There is a wide variety of policies being passed for vaping and cigarettes. A vaping regulation is trying to pass allowing all vape companies to carry similar products back when vaping first started. This could cause the vaping market to crash, making people lose money, and most importantly jobs.
Through public education, most elementary school kids can understand that smoking is bad for them and that cigarettes are additive. Cigarettes are addictive due to nicotine, a drug found in tobacco (“Quitting Smoking”, 2015). According to Schneider (2016), some of the greatest health problems associated with smoking include: lung cancer, other cancers, coronary heart disease, other heart disease, cerebrovascular disease, other vascular disease, diabetes mellitus, pneumonia, influenza, tuberculosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), prenatal conditions, and sudden infant death syndrome. As stated by the Authority of the American Lung Association in an article titled “Health
It is shocking to know that there are about ten people who die from smoking every single minute, and nobody seems to have any idea about it. Indeed, there is “a growing gap between the real world and the academy” since people are more intellectual about things that are irrelevant to the real life and are ignorant of things that are imperative to live in the real world (Orr 310). Did you know that there are over four hundred thousand deaths caused by cigarettes and tobacco each year in the U.S. alone? That makes it about five million deaths worldwide each year, according to “Statistics about Smoking.” Smoking is notorious for causing avoidable diseases and deaths, and yet not many institutions have develop an appropriate system to prevent cigarette and tobacco from killing millions each year. For instance, all universities promote health and wellness and many claim to be substance-free, yet they do not restrict the selling of cigarettes and tobacco in campus stores or smoking on campus. People are dying, thousands are getting hooked, and a whole population is being affected, hence it‘s urgent that a university aims to educate students to combat smoking. The ideal student will learn the immediate and long-term affects of what cigarette can do to himself and others around him, to resist peer pressure, and be capable of recognizing and resisting advertisement and media ploys. In order to achieve this, the university must provide a curriculum that includes classes such as Anatomy, Smoking Biology with seminars, Media Effects, History of Smoking, Tobacco Industry 101, and DARE with community service.
The article named “Schumer pushes for regulations on e-cigs more kids vape” by Shari Logan talks about how New York teens are using a new cigarette called e-cigs that are suppose to be used by adults who are trying to stop smoking. E-cigs are handheld electronic devices that tries to create the feeling of tobacco smoking. It works by heating a liquid to generate an aerosol, commonly called “vapor” that the users inhale. These cigarettes are determined to be more dangerous than smoking a regular cigarette. Schumer wants to stop the use of e-cigs within teens by going through the federal government.
One of the newest trends in America is an alternative to smoking called “Vaping”. There are many advocacy groups that are currently petitioning and fighting legislature that would make this new trend illegal. Many claims have been made stating that vaping is more dangerous than smoking traditional big brand tobacco. There are also arguments that there have not been enough studies to prove that vaping is less harmful than conventional smoking methods, which is not the case however. Vaping has been around since the early 1960s and has proven to be healthier than its tobacco cousin, the cigarette. Currently the United States Government is trying to pass a law that would ban the production, distribution, and sale of many vape products. This ban would make it so the big brand tobacco companies would once again be the number one source for nicotine. I strongly believe that vaping is a safe alternative method to smoking that will reduce many medical risks and diseases associated
Everyone knows that cigarettes are horrible for your health and increase your risks of cancer. Not too long ago there was a big advertisement for e-cigarettes also known as vaping. It was advertised to be a healthier alternative and comparable to a nicotine patch to help you quit smoking. Many people began to question this new form of smoking and if it was really a safer alternative. Even though vaping is a safer alternative than smoking, vaping is not harmless because you are still getting nicotine, inhaling poison and risking a weaker immune system.
charged with covering up the addictive properties of nicotine and finding ways to exploit it to increase profits. For example, in Wigand’s interview for 60 Minutes, he says that tobacco companies view cigarettes only as a delivery device for nicotine. He also says they take advantage of the addictive properties by manipulating and adj...
There is right from wrong and it is wrong for student to do drugs unless prescribed by a doctor. It will benefit students’ lives by making right and smart choices. The goal of high school is to educate and prepare students for a successful future, but how can a students future be successful if they are doing drugs? Research and statistics have shown that drug use and dropout rates go hand in hand. The annual dropout rate in the United States is extremely high. One in seven students will drop out of high school before receiving their diploma and over thirty percent of these dropouts use drugs illegally. Many high schools around the nation...
