In the article “Forecast 100% of Talent” it is said that the work force of yesterday should be the mentor for the future generations. Older nurses should groom those already within the system by not only offering words of advice but have a real relationship with their protégé’. The reason being is that mentoring allows the mentee a change to grow and development more practical ways of thinking and helps them to receive a sense of satisfaction. According to the Mentoring Nurses toward Success (Hnatiuk, 2012) article there was a new grad nurse that accepted a position over 200 miles away from her family because of the mentoring program. As mentors, they need to remember that with Novice nurses, they are just starting the very beginning of their …show more content…
I think that it is a good idea to have a value based purchasing system. The reason being is that it makes hospitals more conscious of the quality of care and the type of care they are giving to their patients. Physicians and hospitals are now given even more incentive, to treat patients not only with their illness but to get them out of the hospital in a more rapid manner. The Idea of Vale Based Purchasing is that with the incentive it will improve the care of the patients and the hospitals can earn up to 1% more from Medicare payments for following patient-care …show more content…

Twibell and Pierre explain why mentoring residency programs play a huge role in employee retention rates. Mentors rather than preceptors are investing in new grad nurses for longer than just a few months. NGNs are receiving constructive criticism from their mentors and serve as mediators between workplace issues. High levels of anxiety are reported in the first few weeks of employment, but with mentors there to have a caring attitude, the levels of anxiety can be greatly decreased and learning can be much easier facilitated (2012).
Preceptor recruitment, preparation, and compensation; preparation and evaluation of the students; as well as the setting and overall experience for both student and preceptor have long since been starting points for literature reviews when addressing new graduate nurse practitioner (NP) clinical competency upon entry to practice. Preceptor models and student/mentor relationships address, in part, the following benefits: opportunities for critical thinking, operationalizing theoretical concepts, enhancing professional behaviors, interaction with peers and ancillary personnel, all while doing so in a real world environment (Ivey, 2006).
Something has to be done now to prevent health care institutions from feeling the burden of losing the baby boomer nurses. Not enough has been done and the solutions presented have only been short-term. The health care system will not just be losing nurses, but clinical and institutional knowledge, as well experience (). Younger nurses will lack this knowledge and experience. They need mentoring from the baby boomer nurses and that needs to start now. With the mentoring the young nurses will feel confident (). When the baby boomer nurses retire, young nurses aren’t the only ones who will feel their loss, but the patients as
As a nurse seeking my bachelor in nursing I have a lot of mentors in my career path. The person I choose to interview is my mentor name, Karen. In the process of her nursing career, she was influenced by her mentor to continue her education, in women's health because of her passion for young teens. Karen started her career in nursing at Grand Valley State University where she earned a Bachelor Degree in nursing. After having her BSN for many years, Karen decision to continue her education at Michigan State University where she received a Master degree in Nursing.

My transition into the nursing profession was a major achievement for I am able to use my acquired skills to contribute to the community. As a bedside nurse and a staff member of a large medical establishment, I had to learn how to deliver care to a population that is very diverse. In order for that care to be effective, I must assume the roles of a counselor, therapist, educator, advocate and most of all as an interpersonal facilitator.
The nursing career has a growing workforce, spurred on by the high demand for caregivers. The growing need for nurses has caused in influx of new nurses, graduating from school and ready to begin their career. Although there are many different work settings for nurses, one universal aspect of assisting new nurses is nursing leadership. Leaders within nursing are tasked with assisting new nurses as well as those who are veteran nurses, and their role is indispensible. “Health leaders model the behavior expected in the organization” (Ledlow & Stephens, 2018). Susan Eckert, the senior vice-president of nursing and chief nursing executive at Medstar Washington Hospital Center, is a prime example of a nursing leader.

Now, being more knowledgeable about the many different routes nursing can take me, my aspirations have evolved. I have developed a special interest in continuing my education; I am pursuing to obtain my BSN degree. Although I volunteer regularly at the local clinic and hospital, I aim to reach people in other rural areas and collaborate with them and other healthcare institutions in an effort to improve their access to health care. It is my intention to partake a more active role in my local young professionals group by collaborating with my team in planning and organizing events. These are the short-term goals I hope to achieve within a
My experience with an older nurse during my practicum at Langley Memorial Hospital, along with the results of the LSI and LCS, have given me the insight to critically examine both my advantages and faults as a learner who values teamwork. In the conclusion of this essay, I will develop a plan that not only addresses my effective learning abilities, but also areas
The majority of our society holds the notion that nurses are no more than trained professionals, working for a doctor, who simply provide medical care for the sick and informed. However, what nursing means to me goes deeper than that belief. Nursing is a profession in which individuals are responsible for not only the care of the sick and infirmed but are also responsible for being a support system and an educator, as well as an advocate for the promotion of optimal care. In today’s society, nurses are an important part of any medical facility’s investment. This paper will address the many different aspects of nursing in which nurse’s act as not only caregivers but also act as, counselors and educators.

According to the customer value triad theory by Earl Naumann, “value is a combination of quality, service and price” (Naumann, 1995). In this case quality could be defined as performance quality, the objective quality of a product (Kotler & Keller, 2012). A product with high performance quality, increases the value of a product. The value of a product is furthermore positively influenced by the service that is delivered (Kotler & Keller, 2012). The price however, can both positively and negatively influence the value of a product. A high price will in most cases decrease the value, but for some exclusive and luxury goods, a high price increases the value. The exclusivity, which is of intangible nature, is than one of the most important determinants of the value of the product. For most normal goods however, the objective quality is the prime determinant of the value. Although intangible benefits can be important in determining the value of a product, in most cases it is still the tangible benefits and costs, the objective quality and the price.
