Abstract:
The lexical approach to language learning has gained prominence during the recent years. Its proponents believe that learning lexis has a crucial role to play in the classroom. But, text books, the only source of language are unable to provide the ESL learners with sufficient exposure to lexis. Hence, there is every need in including materials containing lexis in the curriculum. The present study proposes news bulletins as such materials. The objectives of the present article are fivefold: firstly, it gives a brief introduction to the lexical approach. Secondly, it describes the concept of lexis and its importance in language learning. Thirdly, it describes the significance of using news bulletins to learn lexis. Lastly, it enumerates

What are the materials used in teaching lexis?
According to the Lexical approach, language demands immense exposure to lexis. But, text books, the only source of exposure to language for the ESL learners, are unable to cater learners need in learning lexis. Hence, it is important to make the learners get acquainted with supplementary materials.
Now to consider news bulletins from radio as such materials, their use in language teaching cannot be overstated. English teachers all over the world cry out for materials which can make English live for their students in schools and colleges, and for them the radio broadcasts and TV programmes of English by Radio and Television provide just such a resource.
The greatest advantage of using radio in the classroom is that large number of learners can assemble around one receiver. Besides, it is an easily accessible and affordable tool in India even at schools in rural areas. Apart from this, the broad casts may be recorded and played in the classroom or the periods of English can be adjusted with the
The face of English education is changing not always for the better. Education as a whole has made leaps and bounds in the last 50 years this has been assisted by many other factors including technology, new teaching techniques, better training of teachers among other things. One of the areas that have changed the most is English education. There have been three recurring issues that have been maintained over the last few decades. These are debates that have valid arguments on both sides of the issue which is why no real solutions have been proposed.
In an effort to create a context for learning, one needs to define the language that will be used to teach a subject. So often in schools, from first grade through graduate studies, when teaching a new subject matter or concepts it is necessary to teach the vocabulary that will accompany that subject. However, we often spend little time making sure that vocabulary is learned and consequently without the prerequisite knowledge of vocabulary of learning the learning of information related to it is difficult. This need for definition of relevant language is seen in multiple sources with textbooks being on of the greatest sources of it. The books highlight, bold, or italicize critical words and provide definitions of the word or within the text or margins. This definition of terms gives the reader the knowledge basis to understand the content of what they are reading. If the books authors did not define these terms, then understanding the information they are trying to convey would be difficult.
It provides a real opportunity for genuine communication. It also helps building students’ comprehension on a text. In the daily life, we can tell people about a news article we have read, so this is a classroom activity that is fairly authentic.
My resource is thought for the intermediate and advanced language student and includes exercises to reinforce previous knowledge and enlarge vocabulary. It could be adapted with personalised content to suit individual needs and adaptive learning content that can be altered as per the feedback received on learner usage. My resource also builds upon students' prior knowledge of grammar, vocabulary, word usage, and the mechanics of writing a fairy tale narrative in Spanish. It also includes the four aspects of language use: reading, writing, speaking and listening, and using language to construct meaning and

Even though media studies is still new, it is important, as it has a high potential of being at the centre of essential changes in our thoughts about what we should learn and if they are worthwhile (Bazalgette, 2000). Since this subject is still new there are a lot of disagreements on how media should be interpreted and it is also a hybrid subject as the idea that it came about comes from a variety of sources (Bazalgette, 2000). Media studies is also considered an academic discipline as it binds the different types of hybrid disciplines such as semiotics, structuralism, sociolinguistics and a lot more and there are no limits to an individual as how to analyze the media. The analysis of media is very important for this particular subject. Educators today realized that students need to be involved in practical work to understand the subject better. Media studies are normally associated with the English subject. However the difference is rather apparent and media studies courses uses economic and political perspectives are their main ways to understand the media as well as it requires a person to consider texts from different contrasting perspectives. The English subject on the other hand, deals with reading and writing skills as well as analyzing critically. It also involves individual students’ responses (Bazalgette, 2000).
Notwithstanding, the received results were more satisfactory than hypothesised. The students indicate that pronunciation is the most challenging area of the differences between British and American English. The solution to this problem may be in practising generally pronunciation, therefore more speaking activities. As a reason for the difficulty the students detect problems with remembering all the rules, it was stated before that this class need numerous repetition of introduced information. However, it proves that pronunciation still needs more practice. This work also proves that the students feel obliged to use British English because it is the one which they learn in school. When asked, which dialect they will prefer to be taught in the future half of the students indicate British English and half of them detect American English. What is more, 70% of the students admits that American English is easier. However, 80% agrees that they like British English more when it comes to melody and the rhythm. Finally, 9 out of 10 students evaluate the three diploma lessons as very successful and 1 student grades them as successful. The students had problems with indicating which activities or aspects of the lesson did not meet their expectation. As the advantages of the three diploma lesson students indicate the interviews with

Soon Grammar-translation was challenged with the rise of Audio-lingualism whereby this method was viewed “as the first ‘scientific’ language teaching methodology” (Knight, 2001). This method, as much as Grammar-translation, focused on grammar of the target language through teachers’ drilling. It stood on the principle of behaviourist theory which proposes learners to receive a stimulus (input of the target language), respond towards it (by uttering the target language correctly) and have reinforcement upon the correct responses (Skinner, 1957). Audio-lingualism does not tolerate any error and drilling as well as repetition is fundamental in cultivating a language learning ‘habi...

The concept of ICT is vaster than this. Although it is believed that radio and television play a less important role in education nowadays, some teachers and educators still consider them as an effective means of teaching. However, ICT is a totally new phenomenon; at the very beginning.
