Poverty’s economic definition is the state of being poor - having less economic materials or no money necessary for daily survival. Poverty as no borders and every responsible citizen should be concerned about poverty since nearly half of the world’s population lives on less than $2.50 USD per day and more than 1.3 billion people live in extremely poverty, making less than $1.25 per day. A majority of the world’s population lack access to clean water, adequate health care and education. UNICEF reported that 22,000 children die every day due to poverty while over 1 billion children live in poverty. More than 80 percent of the world’s population lives on less than $10 per day (Shah). Wealthy western countries have contributed to poverty around the world and should share the burden of trying to eradicate it. Western countries should make direct investments to build and strengthen civil and public institutions in countries experiencing extreme poverty, rather than providing donations and grants through Christian missionaries to build huts in those countries. If education is the tool out of poverty, affluent countries with the best education systems should begin training people in impoverished countries so they can create their own way of life. Further, wealthy western nations should build economic alliances with the governments of poor countries that have proposed plans to lift their people out of poverty rather than supporting a small group of thugs who have allowed them to steal these countries’ natural resources that could have been used to put these countries on a path of success.

In the last two decades several countries notably China, Brazil, India and many others have experienced economic prosperity which has created an emerging middle-class and propel a portion of their population out of poverty.
