Already knowing what my personality type is, I skipped this assessment. I find personality types fascinating. These tests can be very helpful in life, especially when choosing a career. Still, I find that this personality test, or any personality test, is not necessarily useful, as personalities are constantly changing in little ways. Over the course of a year, I have had three different personality types, which were all similar in some way. All personalities had agreed with me at that time. At the current time, out of the sixteen types, I am personally an ESTJ, which means that I am an extroverted, sensing, thinking and judgmental individual. In my case, ESTJs tend to have an orientation for business and make good administrators. This personality type has a knack for leadership and organization. These people are realistic, who can make practical decisions quickly. Based on their personality, ESTJ types do best with careers such as public relations, sales, and management. Having a “model citizen” persona, ESTJs make every effort to uphold values such as justice and a drive for wanting to help others out. When researching this type, rigidness, organization, and having an overbearing presence are traits that constantly are mentioned. I find that, though I can relate to some of these traits, these do not seem to match up with my personality entirely. I find that rigidness and inflexibility should not be implemented at all times, as ESTJs tend to do. I believe that it is fine to be relaxed and take a break once in a while, as working oneself too hard can cause more damage than good. To be flexible, but firm is what makes up a good leader. In regards to connecting an individual’s personality type to a career fit for them, it is important to consider the four traits and how they work together to find a career suited for that personality type. Though keeping in mind that personalities do change, it is important not to dwell too much on the careers fit best for that type. Rather, one should take this assessment into

Overall, the INTJ type is an accurate description of my personality. I concur with the assessments that INTJ’s do not “take criticism personally” and they are not “afraid of hard work, and will put forth a great deal of effort towards something that they are interested in” (INTJ Personal Growth, 2014). I am confident in my own abilities and take no offense at work if others are able to show me a better/easier way of performing a task (as long I am approached professionally). Additionally, I am usually whole-heartedly committed toward efforts when I see the importance or benefit from such actions. For example, if I need to put in a few 15-16 hours days to ensure the job is done on-time and correctly I will do so without much thought. My temperament of “NT” also known as the “Rationals” is consistent with what I see in myself (The Four Temperaments, 2014). Many psychologists throughout many years present theoretical approaches in an attempt to understand personality. Hans Eysenck’s approach of personality differed from that of Sigmund Freud and his psychoanalytical theory of personality. Eysenck’s theory of personality relies on the scientific basis of biology in explaining human personality. Although Freud’s theories are intriguing to an open mind, Eysenck’s approach made measurable scientific sense. He relied on the use of trait and factor analysis, which is a statistical method. Freud relied on faith and his personal opinions based on observational research to reach the assumptions that set forth his theories (Feist & Feist, 2009). Eysenck and Freud did not agree on anything about understanding how and why the mind operates the way, it does.
ENTJ, is known as “The Field Marshal” or “The Executive.” Sources say my personality type has the potential to make great CEO’s or politicians. According to my research; ENTJ’s are known to have excellent speaking skills: which can assist in making public addresses or explaining new business models to a board of directors from a power point. ENTJ’s are also known to hold very high standards and expect the same from their peers/ employees; which makes them excellent managers. In its most basic form, personality is what defines a person through their “…expression of emotions, relationship building, and their individual patterns of behavior…” (CITE). Two of the most prolific theories on the formation of personality were developed by neurologist Sigmund Freud and psychologist Carl Rogers. Both Freud and Rogers worked in psychotherapy, the area of therapy, which “…focuses on fostering a positive mental well-being…” (CITE). These men based their general theories of personality on their experiences with patients, however their conclusions are worlds apart. Rogers is recognized for his approach to therapy where the “…client…” has a more direct role in the process (CITE). Whereas Freud is best known for his work on the unconscious mind.

According to Freud, the mind is divided into the conscious mind which is composed of all things we are aware of and the unconscious mind which has things we are not aware of. Ego component focuses on reality matters and ensures satisfaction of the identity in a realistic manner that is safe and socially accepted. The superego component holds internalized behavior and standards we learn from the surrounding environment like our parents and society. Freud came up with four stages of psychosexuality: Oral, Anal, Phallic and Genital. At each stage different parts of the body are able to produce pleasure hence they serve as the main source of pleasure, frustration and self-expression. Upon taking the Myers Briggs personality test on the human metrics website I was not surprised that I received the conclusion of an ENTJ or “the natural born leader”. The role of an ENTJ is that you conduct yourself in a manner that is very logical and rational (“Personality”). The Myers Briggs Type Indicator test has been around for over 65 years and has continually evolved to become more accurate in identifying personality traits. I find that the ENTJ type of personality reflections are accurate due to the fact that I am a no nonsense type of leader that likes to take charge and get the job done. There are many people in this world; no two people are the same. When considering personality theories it is important to note that not all theories apply to all situations or all people. Different theories have different approaches. It is important to know the person before making assumptions about the proper theory to apply to the person or in any given situation. The purpose of this paper is to analysis how different personality theorists could interoperate different individual circumstances and behaviors based on case examples provided by the instructor.
The humanistic perspective on personality deals exclusively with human behavior. Humanistic psychologists believe that human nature includes a natural drive towards personal growth, that humans have the freedom to choose what they do regardless of environmental factors, and humans are mostly conscious beings and are not controlled by unconscious needs and conflicts. They also believe that a person's subjective view of the world is more important than objective reality. Two of the humanistic theorists that have made an impact of humanism are Carl Rogers and Abraham Maslow.
It is remarkable that by answering a few basic questions, a person can learn key characteristics of his or her personality. After taking the personality test, I learned my general personality type is “The Consul” (ESFJ-A). Individual traits of my personality type are more extroverted than introverted, more observant than intuitive, more feeling than thinking, more judging than prospecting, and more assertive than turbulent. My role is Sentinel and my strategy is People Mastery (“Consul Personality,” 2017). My personality type is Extroverted, intuitive, feeling, perceptive or ENFP. According to the description in the exercise, ENFP's are warm, enthusiastic and live their outer life more with intuition and their inner more with feeling.
