The Importance Of Multiculturalism

In today’s fast growing and diverse world we interact with people from all around the world. Whether we are grabbing our morning coffee or getting food from that Chinese restaurant down the street we meet and interact with people of different culture, race and nationality. In a country like Canada, where multiculturalism is so important one must be ready to accept it. As Helder Camara said, “Keep your language. Love its sounds, its modulation, its rhythm. But try to march together with men of different languages, remote from your own, who wish like you for a more just and human world”.
Multiculturalism breaks down barriers between two different groups of nationality. We cannot judge a book by its cover, just like we can’t judge a whole culture based on one man’s action. Let’s take Muslims for example, they have been branded as terrorists. Now the whole society looks down on them, they have been branded as terrorist based on the action of a few men, where in fact if we take time and learn about their religion and culture we can see that that is not the agenda of a Muslim. So it’s important for us to get to know our fellow man, regardless where he is from. This quote from Aberjhani is where he describes us humans as the same, “Beneath the armor of skin/and/bone/and/mind most of our colors are amazingly the same”.
We see in a lot of cases when a person is segregating another person due to his culture or race. We can’t hate another person because of this, it is better for us to learn from them and understand.

...g to know them, this major problem has been caused by Western society tainting the East. They’ve put labels on countries and we seem them as a rigid place, with no freedom. So instead of listening to the media, we should develop our own idea about people instead of listening to others.
So in a nutshell multiculturalism is very important for not only a person to have, but the society to have as a whole. The main reason why multiculturalism is significant is because it reduces all of the ignorance. It is very important for a society to have as it breaks down barriers which are set between the different ethnic groups in a society. Multiculturalism is a guideline which involves different cultures coexisting and living peacefully under one roof. We see that multiculturalism helps society as is also brings diversity, which a community needs to coexist together.
