Integrity is defined by Webster’s Dictionary as a firm adherence to a code of especially moral or artistic values, an unimpaired condition, or the quality or state of being complete or undivided (Merriam Webster's Collegiate Dictionary 11th Edition, pg. 650). However, people on their own and as a society have a different perception of integrity. They believe it means staying composed, having unity, being trustworthy, and having a strong backbone. Each of these interpretations are correct and collectively work together to give integrity it’s importance to individuals and society.

Once an individual adopts integrity, it causes the others around them to begin exercising the same qualities. However, someone has to begin the chain reaction for it to make an impact. Integrity is a dying virtue among society today. When asked the definition of integrity, the majority of people estimate and frequently answer incorrectly. Since people do not know the exact definition, the idea of integrity is monsconstruned and is no longer an idea commonly found in society. Because it has lost it’s popularity and importance to the majority, less and less people begin to use it. However, those who do utilize the quality of integrity can easily be picked out of a crowd. These people are more likely to become leaders within society and cause others to follow suit. Not only will they become leaders, they will also become more marketable. People will be more willing to do business with those who have integrity. In addition to changing how people act, integrity has a great deal to do with all aspects of society. It is needed, shown, and important to vastly different fields of work.
