An image is described as a two-dimensional function, f(x, y), in which x and y are plane (spatial) coordinate points, and the amplitude of at any two similar pair of coordinates (x, y) is called the intensity or gray level of the image at the particular point. When x and y the amplitude values of f are all discrete entities or finite the image is known as digital image. Although the color blue is commonly associated with sadness or greif, it can also represent quiet opposite things. When the sky is clear of clouds, it's blue that's covering our entire state of vision. When you look at a blue-eyed person, you can see their blue isnt so depressing; rather happy. The way we associate colors with different objects or feelings doesnt mean they dont have an entirely different meaning. In my english class we were doing a test called "True Colors". We were giving a set of questions whre we rated ourselves on how accurate the question related to us; 1-5. Out of the four colors we could have been assigned, i got blue. From the sketches created by Leonardo da Vinci, to the modern day Computed Tomography (CT) or Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scan, images have played a great role in medicine. Evolution in medical imaging brought together people from various disciplines such as Biology, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, a collaboration which has further contributed to healthcare as a whole. Modern day imaging improves medical workflows by facilitating a non-invasive insight into human body, accurate and timely diagnostics, and persistence of an analysis.
For example, if we want to find out the length of a car from an image then first we find out the set of pixels that represent the car. Another example in segmentation of medical imaging is to calculate the volume of heart ventricle, so first we find the pixels that make the ventricle.
