Living in the twenty-first century means living in a period where technology has become a main player. As a result, young professionals are demanded to have technological skills that will facilitate their survival in such a time. Among these skills is having fast typing skill. So, how can fast typing skill contribute to your survival as a professional? Fast typing skills make employees more competitive in the work place-especially in the business area. For example, working in the banking industry requires a lot of typing so it is definitely a major drawback having poor typing skills. Fast typing skills do not develop from a blink of an eye, rather it takes into account a series of steps that require preparation, time and practise. First,
Michaela Cullington, a student, wrote a paper “Does Texting Affect Writing?” in 2010 for an English class. The paper is an examination of texting and the belief that it negative effective student’s writing. Cullington goes into detail about textspeak- “language created by these abbreviations”- and their use in formal writings. She organizes the paper in a way that is confusing to understand at first (pg. 1). At the end of the paper, she discusses her finding in her own research which comes to show that texting does not affect writing. But this is contradicting to the information she received from the teachers. The students and the teachers were seeing differences in the use of textspeak in formal writing. Cullington has good support for her
Since the first person heard the wind whistle through the trees or the sea in a seashell humans have been drawn to sound. Being the oppressive and ingenious species that we are we felt the need to capture these sounds and any others that we could to keep for our own. Eventually people like Pythagoras and gods such as Apollo found that by stretching materials and picking/plucking them that they would produce sounds and that the tighter you stretched these strings the higher the sound would go. These were the early beginnings of the pianoforte.
Knowing correct formats, styles, and linguistics can ensure a company that a person will be professional and effective at work. Having exceptional writing skills will assist in getting a job because when a person has those skills they can create a well thought out resume and cover letter. An outstanding resume and cover letter is the first impression a person leaves for an employer. The way a person writes shows who they are and what they can accomplish. When a person has a deficient resume it makes employers unsure of who the person they are considering is. It will make an employer wonder if they are making the right decision and question if the person applying for the position will be able to do the tasks needed to fulfil the job. It is also important to have good writing skills when applying for a job or trying to advance in a job because most jobs require communication through e-mail. Not only does one want to sound professional in a work e-mail but then verbal communication takes place. In the work field a person wanting to advance in their job is most likely going to have to step up and not only answer telephones but they may need to speak in meetings, and write business letters. An article by Timothy Roufa on thebalance.com gives an example that shows the importance of verbal and written communication skills
Numerous intellectuals have debated on the effects that typography has on the mind. An example of two such intellectuals are Walter Ong and Neil Postman. In Walter Ong’s “Writing is a Technology that Restructures Thought” he describes the difference between oral and typographic cultures and the resulting effects each had on the mind while in Chapter 4 of Postman’s “Amusing Ourselves to Death” similarly focuses on how typography has molded the way that we think, which has become very structured and writing-like, and how that effects public discourse. Overall, both their pieces serve to demonstrate how typography arrogates itself into our lives and is forever embedded in our conscious and unconscious mind, which illuminates how technology is
However, this has greatly hindered our writing in the professional standpoint. With the ability to write simple phrases with poor grammar and quick, abbreviated words, casual writing established itself as another problem for individuals. In some instances, texting has been constantly used incorrectly where one friend told Truus that he “CANT BELIEVE U PUT APOSTROPHE IN HAIRDRESSERS”(Truss 496). During the text, he emphasized on the apostrophe in hairdressers. Although using an apostrophe is unnecessary, it is certainly important in a professional career. Even throughout the text, he did not write out you, but instead wrote it as an “U”. As a result, this short message can carry over to his writing and may appear in future resume and cover letter from habit. Even with the constant reminders to write correctly, individuals continue to write in short messages as they have grown slothful to write longer text. Even then, these habits carry over to their work and as depicted in Wiens’s company, individuals “can’t distinguish between “to” and “too” (Wiens 500). Due to an overuse of writing short texts, employers cannot distinguish simple phrases that would be otherwise taught in an elementary school class. In order to write professionally, it is important to constantly remind ourselves to write grammatically correct during any leisure activities. From there,

type 50 times faster than writing by hand. I guess it's just something that I'm better at. I
You can say that overuse in texting is determination the way teens, students write formally in the classroom. Teens that spend most of their eyes on their phone has already created their own texting style. Now I am able to answer the question, how does texting affect teen literacy? Texting affects teen literacy because, text messaging does affect our grammar because, teens text like for example; “ttyl”, “gtg”, “wyd”. They find an easy way of texting rather than using the correct way. In order to get what they want done, we wanted to see and learn about the damage that texting can cause on teens and we did learn, we learned that it can affect our grammar, grades, and even your future in trying to get a job, your skills in so much more. I wanted to inform the teens about the damage that texting in short terms can do to you. Encourage them not to write in short term because, they are too
Computer has made the life easier by providing various applications and technologies. For example, while computer has replaced typewriter, it helps the students to become a better writer as they can “revise text, rearrange paragraphs, and experiment with the tone and shape of an essay” () while using word processing. Thus, the computer helps the students to improvise their writing. Human relationship with co...
Typing was created to make things easier . Especially when you are a very busy person and need to speed up the process. But is typing more helpful or benefitcial ? The answer is still in the air. From my point of view, it might be helpful
These skills in particular are the plethora of programs at hand ready to be used and experienced by multiple users across the whole entire world. There multiple programs that helps man and progress science. There is one program that I would like to talk about which is called Foldit, a program that reframes fiendish scientific challenges as a competitive multiplayer computer game. It taps into the collective problem-solving skills of tens of thousands of people, most of whom have little or no background in science. This program helped the science community because a group of players discovered a structure of proteins which was a relative of HIV that causes AIDS in monkeys. These programs that can be used to solve science is a major reason why people should own computers. A gaming computer can be used for one’s work, to download and listen to music for free, and create pictures or videos. These programs of the sort is used for casual computer consumers and photo shoppers. There are also programs that are helpful while being free. Software can be expensive if you 're not smart about it. Free programs have been a mainstay of the desktop experience for decades, and the offerings only get more powerful and fascinating each year. There are multiple genres of programs such as ad blocks, malware detectors, adware detectors, cleaners and other useful essential programs needed for use. All of these programs should be open source so one cannot get a virus and other terrible programs installed inside one’s computer. Lastly there a multitude of social programs at use on the computer. Programs such as Skype, OovoO, and team speak are just a small list of programs one can use to meet new people by using their voices. These programs can bring a person with no friends to having a couple or even hundreds of friends and would bring joy to them in their life. There was someone I knew who had no
For instance, because of the computer technology, most of the people do not have to remember all the spelling of a word due to the automatic spell-check. After a long time, it is common for them to forget. More and more students depend on this new technology to help spelling; however, this function molder the spelling skill, partly because of laziness, in part because this technology make it easy to spell. The progress of information technology is becoming more and more convenient in spelling and writing. At the same time, person starts to forget the detail with the memory declining. Human are slowly loss their writing ability which is evolved by thousands
While taking a typing course in high school, the hardest part was remembering where each key was. I could never figure out why the typewriter keys were set up in the order they were, but once I learned the various keystrokes, it became second nature to type. Although, I still have trouble with some of the keys on the top row, such as numbers and symbols. This is probably because they aren't used as much as the others. Another difficult part was remembering to hit the return key when I wanted to go to the next line. Setting the tabs and margins properly could also be quite trying. Never in my wildest imagination could I have envisioned a typewriter that could wrap-around to the next line, automatically set margins, and even tell you when words are misspelled or used improperly. Now I know that there is no limit to what computers will be able to accomplish in the future. It will only take imagination and determination to make them do whatever we want them to do.
To remain competitive and employable in the twenty-first century workplace, society today must conform to the changing demands. Technology is one of the principal driving forces of the future; it is transforming our lives and shaping our future at rates unprecedented in history, with profound implications, which we cannot even begin to see or understand.
When I applied for a work study position at Thomas Nelson Community College, I found out the job mostly involved using the computer when I did my first interview. I had to know how to use excel along with checking emails, and organizing various files. They talked about how my computer skills along with my ability to do filing work helped get me in the position I managed to obtain. I’ve also noticed that even people like the dean of my division is very computer literate, so it just further proves my point that learning how to use computers will open up more opportunities for others to get great
