Engineering has been an interesting form of career and is often discussed in the society. It can be expressed as a mean in which people try to find the solutions of problems. Finding the solutions will allow them to understand more about the physical world they live in. This may greatly improve the society, resulting in increased productivity and efficiency in the daily life scenarios. This opinion is supported by Tredgold (1828) as "[e]ngineering is the art of directing the great success of power in nature for the use and convenience of man." In dealing with the ways for solving problems, engineers have designed numerous methods which would provide different approaches. According to Florman (1976), engineering is said to be "the art or science …show more content…
It contains many possibilities, and unforgettable moments. Through engineering, one could easily obtain the satisfaction and joy. Thus, engineering has many lifetime opportunities. My top three lists would be self-esteem, social impact and the creative thinking. These three lists are unique and rare to find today. By becoming an engineer, these aspects can be achieved and I would take pride in so doing. First of all, self-esteem can be regarded as an important factor in every aspect of life (Landis 2013, pp. 57). It reflects the actions and feelings when dealing with people. The process is a self-evaluation, where a person can analyze his or her worthiness and capability through emotional means. The experience will be gained and the mature decisions can be made. This allows a person to be assured with most of the tasks. Hence, an engineer should be confident and experienced, which today’s society is in …show more content…
Teamwork plays the critical role, as “[n]othing of significance is ever achieved by an individual acting alone.” (Landis 2013, pp. 192). In fact, group work will allow the team to work faster and more productive. This also applies in both engineering students’ life and their future. As part of conducting teamwork, I have done the peer assessments, where I give the ratings to myself and my team members. I have obtained the feedback this week and I must say the results are quite impressive. As for ratings from my peers, I scored well on the ability to organise, perform, manage, evaluate and work at a high standard. This score reflects on my behaviour and actions for my team. I realise that being open-minded and honest about my ideas is better and it also sends the clear message. I feel that our group has become more confident and as a result, we seem to work effectively. Moreover, our group may be interpreted as the system with increasing dynamic and chemistry. However, there are some factors which need to be improved. These cases include developing ideas, broader analysis and more contribution. From the required cases, I can change how I act with the team and try to produce better teamwork throughout the
An engineer is someone who understands the world as it is, but works to make it better. They solve problems on both micro and macro scales and all sizes in between. While they endeavor to solve problems in such a way that the future isn’t compromised, this may not always be the case, thus providing employment for engineers in the future in order to solve the created problems. In this way, engineers display their obvious superior intelligence by ensuring employment for the future. At the end of the day, engineers are the on...
When reading “An Engineering Career: Only a Young Person’s Game?” by Robert N. Charette, we are able to grasp the meaning behind the half-life engineering knowledge and how it affects the general engineer in the workplace. Charette also provides other articles that will give tips on how to use lifelong learning to counter the effect of becoming obsolete in your knowledge.

Engineering is a professional career and thus much is expected out of them. Morals and values must be incorporated into the work of an engineer based on his/her own believes and those of the company. In today’s age, money speaks. Profit is a huge concern of companies even to the point where violations and infractions of the law are committed. Just to name a few immoral acts in engineering include: plagiarism, bribery, and whistleblowing. Whistleblowing can be either good or bad. It could save lives, but could also get one fired. Bribery, however, is a very deceptive act and can lead to actions being taken that otherwise would not have been. Bribery breaks many of the cannons in the NSPE Code of Ethics and thus should be taken seriously.
Engineering is the application of scientific, economic design and a wide range of other specialized fields of engineering. As an engineer, there are four major different areas of engineering work that I can concern about, that is chemical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering and mechanical engineering. Beyond this four, sources separate to other main branches. Based on the electrical engineering is concerned with the basic forms of energy that run the world, there is a hopeful future in taking this major as my direction of future. However, what exactly is the benefit of this major; am I suppose to choose this major; what kinds of job opportunities that I am able to get and various of other questions are what I concerned the most.
Possessing the basic knowledge in the field of physical sciences and the intuition in them made me to pick up Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry as my majors for the Higher Secondary Education. After the completion of my secondary education, I felt that engineering was the only field which can transform and transfer my dreams in the field of sciences into a real one and also it would give me an opportunity to learn and explore how the fundamentals of science are appl...
The word engineer comes from the latin word ingeniare. ingeniare means construct or craftsmanship. Ever since the beginning of time we have had engineers. Engineering is the combination of math and science , solving world problems to help better the world around us. Being an engineer takes a lot of knowledge, creativity, and hard work. A typical engineer can clearly see a problem and is capable of fining a solution. A senior engineer or engineering manager usually doesnt do as much technical work, but usally lot of managing. Some of the first official engineers were military engineers. They were employed by the goverment to build such things as roads, bridges, and weapons. US mililary Academy at Westpoint was the first school to offer an education in enginnering. Engineering is a very broad field. Engineers are always at a high demand, we could never have enough brilliant minds making the world better. Engineers are needed everywhere. Engineering managers have to have a bachelor's degree or higher, they usually direct and seek solutions to problems and are sometimes called executi...
Engineering is an essential and learned profession. As members of this profession, engineers are likely to show the highest standards of honesty and integrity. Engineering has a straight and vital impact on the quality of life for all people. Consequently, the services offered by engineers need honesty, impartiality, equality, and must be dedicated to the protection of the public safety, welfare, and health. Engineers must act under a standard of professional performance that requires adherence to the maximum principles of ethical conduct.
Ethics refer to those habits or standards that are considered to show good character and conduct. In the professional practice of engineering, engineers are confronted with different ethical issues and interpersonal conflicts. These cases could range from a small scale involving few people to larger conflicts where the outcome influences the engineering community and the society at large. Classically, engineering education does not duly address the needs for ethical education to be incorporated into the technical curriculum. However, it has become axiomatic that engineers must exhibit good ethical behavior because safety of the people and the environment rely on the quality of the designs/services that engineers provide.
Right from my school days, I have always shown a high degree of competence and interest in subjects like Mathematics and Science. I scored 88 marks in Mathematics & 84 marks in Science in Secondary School (10th standard). It was with this motivation that I took up the Science stream in my senior school. I completed my senior school with first class grade. My fairly good performance at secondary and senior school gave me the confidence to take Engineering as my career.
There are many virtues are relevant to engineers, including intelligence, decisiveness, hard work, carefulness, and being a team player. Virtues require practice, and it is important that engineers continue to grow throughout their careers and while they are in school. While we may have not explicitly defined what it means to be a virtuous person until the final year of school, we have unknowingly started to develop our virtues and traits throughout our time in
Engineering has evolved since the beginning of time. Most engineers have been successful due to trial and error. Thomas Jefferson, for instance, failed many times before creating the light bulb, which he is now famous for. Another popular trial and error procedure is the scientific method. Most researchers use the scientific method in order to get a successful result, or a not so successful outcome.
Engineers are valuable assets to any company because they think analytically. Engineers may advance to become technical specialists or to supervise a staff or team of engineers and technicians. Some eventually become engineering managers or enter other managerial or sales jobs.
Obstacles had never been obstructing my effort to succeed in life. As an engineer to be, it is important to me to be prepared for the hurdles in the real world. The world nowadays needs a person who could compete and has great abilities to stand on the same level as others. Multiple skills and critical opinion of an issue are essential for an engineer to jump into this challenging career. For me, a strategic planning and full preparation need to achieve the aim of being an expert engineer.
It seems that every era from ancient times to modern times has engineers playing a strong role in the development of society; they build many structures that identify that culture and time period. Engineers create something out of an idea; they fill a need and fulfill a dream such as a skyscraper that no one thought would ever be possible. “Scientists investigate that which already is; engineers create that which has never been” (Albert Einstein).
