Cooking Terms and What They Mean is meant to teach simple cooking terms in the most straightforward way possible. The film teaches a portion of cooking terms in the most effective way possible to reach an uneducated audience. Viewers can instantly learn how to accomplish common cooking terms through watching this video. This video targets women that know little to nothing when it comes to cooking and baking. It’s intended to educate women on cooking terms that are commonly used. Although, Cooking Terms and What They Mean is effective, there points throughout the film that detract from its stated purpose. He talks about her in a tone that makes her seem completely incompetent. He says “If she would have only looked at this before she baked that cake” (Cooking Terms), “Even Margie found that she could, learn to cook, when she discovered the significance of the terms used in cooking” (Cooking Terms), and “Tim will never know she ruined her first cake” (Cooking Terms). Logos is successfully established because the definitions of the terms mentioned in the film are consistent with the definitions today. The film adequately teaches the select terms included in a way that is comprehensible to anyone. After demonstrating a set of terms that relate to each other or a process containing multiple terms the narrator sums it up by repeating the terms used in that process or related set. For example, the process of braising includes dredging, browning, and simmering. After demonstrating and explaining each term individually the narrator goes on to summarize “so you see that the term braise includes three other terms, dredge, brown, and simmer” (Cooking Terms).
