The desire to survive is instinctual and common among all living things (Donegan). In order to survive, one must have to compete against others since there is a large group of species and a restricted amount of natural resources (Denogan). Since the beginning of time there has been a continuous drive to surpass others and achieve difficult challenges. This survival instinct, along with a competitive atmosphere, has remained the same as the human race has evolved all leading up to emotions of envy and bitterness (Denogan). Because of this, people have applied it in every aspect of their life such as personal and workplace. This competitive hierarchy, though prevalent in most societies, varies across cultures depending on their ethical systems, traditions, and the type of control exerted by the government (Denogan). Unfortunately, the U.S. capitalistic society inadvertently pushes the belief that success and wealth go hand in hand (Denogan). This ideology has shaped a nation where bullying is unintentionally instilled as a survival tactic from a very young age (Denogan).
As soon a child enters school, they are taught right from wrong and how to make the best decisions. This seemingly innocent lesson can transform a child as they grow up throughout their education (Denogan). Sadly, many students learn fraudulent ways to get ahead in competitive and social surroundings in school. These domineering strategies can contain compelling others for their work and taking credit for it, which results in false success, or gossip between people. These tactics are dangerous because once a student realizes their effectiveness; he or she may construct a life style from them (Denogan). ...ere are caring adults who are willing to help and rise awareness for those who are being discriminated in all forms ("Bullying: What Is It”). As well as social media, like CNN, taking part in interviewing kids and their real life stories on the reality of what its like being bullied, this shows the public eye that there are kids hurting all over the world not just for their sexual orientation but appearance, religion and different personalities. Not just adults being concerned but the kids themselves are trying to rise to the occasion and demonstrate how severe bullying is. Even celebrities have taken apart of organizing ways to help stop bullying between kids. They are using their fame for good, drawing attention to a serious social issue that can help educate people on the unfortunate effects that bullying can cause, one of them being increased suicidal attempts.
