The widespread of the technology and human 's daily habit optimized by the technology can evoke people to have motivation and creativity that lead human 's evolution to the next stage. Then because of the popularization and development of the modern technology, people finally can undertake to create "Artificial Intelligence" known as the AI, which is the recent hottest topic in terms of a lot of fields such as computer science, philosophy, and business. However, in the editorial "As Artificial Intelligence Evolves, So Does Its Criminal Potential," John Markoff mentions the more AI invents, the more cybercrimes or crimes would happen due to the technology equipped with AI algorithms because it becomes easier for criminals to use despite the …show more content…
The human 's everyday routine has gradually changed as the enhancement of the modern technology and growing understanding advantages of using it. So, nowadays many people possibly have their own mobile devices such as smartphone or laptop. According to the article, "U.S. Smartphone Use in 2015" by Aaron Smith, "64% of American adults now own a smartphone of some kind, up from 35% in the spring of 2011"(Web). From the article, just focusing on, for example, smartphone users in America, it is obvious that two in third population have their own mobile devices. Moreover, according to one survey by Anshul Srivastava in the article, “2 Billion Smartphone Users By 2015: 83% of Internet Usage From Mobiles”, over four billion people were reported as a smartphone user, that is more than world’s half of the population. Surprisingly by 2017, the smartphone users will increase to over five billion, which suggests that more than one in two people owns a device globally. It shows the popularization of owing the modern technology all over the world. In addition to the point, not surprisingly, almost all of those devices are equipped with AI technology. The most famous example of AI technology added in mobile devices is Siri the voice recognition of iPhone enhanced by AI technology, which can response the device-owners’ question. The article, "Almost 40% of U.S. smartphone owners use …show more content…
However, from my point of view, it just makes us feel fear of and hesitate using AI technology and also gives us negative image of AI even though as previously showed there are a lot of people who already use the AI capability in daily life. Although evolution of AI technology is depicted negatively, there are positive aspects of AI technology for working as a deterrent of crime. At first, I admit that we cannot already stop cybercrime by just our hands. In the article, "Using Artificial Intelligence to Take Down Cyber Criminals" by Kelly Tatera, he admits the difficulty of preventing cybercrime because of the complexity of the problem. However, he also said AI is only doable for taking it down because the AI 's ability of detection and response from the attack are very quick and efficient. In addition to the point, AI can also learn attacking strategies from previous attacks thanks to one of the AI’s systems called machine learning which allows themselves to accumulate data, learn the pattern of the data by making a model and predict the next action from the model; therefore, AI can prepare for defending security from the second attack by themselves according to "AI could rescue failing cyber security sector" written by Davey Winder. Some years ago, because the computer has limitation on their processing speed due to not well developed technology in
... in 21th century, and it might already dominate humans’ life. Jastrow predicted computer will be part of human society in the future, and Levy’s real life examples matched Jastrow’s prediction. The computer intelligence that Jastrow mentioned was about imitated human brain and reasoning mechanism. However, according to Levy, computer intelligence nowadays is about developing AI’s own reasoning pattern and handling complicated task from data sets and algorithms, which is nothing like human. From Levy’s view on today’s version of AI technology, Jastrow’s prediction about AI evolution is not going to happen. As computer intelligence does not aim to recreate a human brain, the whole idea of computer substitutes human does not exist. Also, Levy said it is irrelevant to fear AI may control human, as people in today’s society cannot live without computer intelligence.
At the latest press conference held by Apple, the new groundbreaking innovation for the iPhone 6 was finally revealed to the public. After years of mingling about in the barbarian state of face-to-face conversation, society is finally being introduced with the ability to eliminate the middle-man, and communicate solely through the use of their smart phone. The feature is called Siri-Speech, which helps envelop the user in the dissociation that is accompanied by using machines to fill the void once occupied by primitive speech. The user only needs to type a text they would like the individuals near them to hear, and the application will read the text aloud. This awe-inspiring feature will help eliminate the need for crude functions like conversation and eye contact.
A smart phone has an enormous amount of abilities for the public to use to their advantage, and many are doing just that. In a survey in 2014, smart phone owners talked about how they used their phones in the past year. Of the users surveyed, 62% of them said that they looked up information about a health condition. Over ninety percent of every age group had sent a text and made a voice or video call to another person (Smith). Smart phones usage for everyday endeavors is the future, and the future starts
Nick Bilton starts “Artificial Intelligence as a Threat” with a comparison of Ebola, Bird flu, SARS, and artificial intelligence. Noted by Bilton, humans can stop Ebola, bird flu, and SARS. However, artificial intelligence, if it ever exceeds human intelligence, would not be stoppable by humans. Bilton, in his article, argues that AI is the biggest threat to humans at our current time, more serious than Ebola and other diseases. Bilton references many books and articles which provide examples of threats of AI.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is one of the newest fields in Science and Engineering. Work started in earnest soon after World War II, and the name itself was coined in 1956 by John McCarthy. Artificial Intelligence is an art of creating machines that perform functions that require intelligence when performed by people [Kurzweil, 1990]. It encompasses a huge variety of subfields, ranging from general (learning and perception) to the specific, such as playing chess, proving mathematical theorems, writing poetry, driving a car on the crowded street, and diagnosing diseases. Artificial Intelligence is relevant to any intellectual task; it is truly a Universal field. In future, intelligent machines will replace or enhance human’s capabilities in
To begin, the main issue of development of Artificial Intelligence is the economic factors. Firstly, one of the main negative effects of AI on economy is unemployment. According to the suggesting of Carl Benedikt Frey and Michael A. Osborne of Oxford University during next 20 years 47 per cent of all USA jobs under the threat and will be replaced with intelligence machines (Vincent). If jobs will be automated, people will lose their workplaces and it is becomes one of the harmful problems not only for economy, but also for society. Because, if people will not have a workplace, they will not be able to provide their needs. Furthermore, development of AI can be a reason of increasing inequality of wages. For instance, the salaries of computer workers approximately earn 10 to 15 percent more than others. (Frey and Osborne). It is also one of the economic problems because it can lead to discontent of workers who hav...
Artificial Intelligence may come in many forms, but for the purpose of this paper, I have adopted the definition from The Columbia Encyclopedia (2008), which states that Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a discipline of computer science that aims to focus on the creation of machines that can mimic intelligent human behavior. It is the attempt to give computers human reasoning and thought processes. Humans have always had an interest in the design, creation and application of smart machines. Consequently, with the discovery and introduction of computer systems and with the decades of research in programming that has followed, humans have now realized that many of their ideas may be possible by the development of these systems. The most intriguing issue with this field of study is that as time passes, technology changes and so does the definition of Artificial Intelligence. It is, in a lighter definition of intelligence, the distinct applications of unnaturally occurring systems or application of artificial systems that rely on use of different knowledge levels to achieve set goals. Artificial Intelligence began with the theoretical work of mathematician Alan T...
The approach to artificial intelligence should be proceeded with caution. Throughout recent years and even decades before, it has been a technological dream to produce artificial intelligence. From movies, pop culture, and recent technological advancements, there is an obsession with robotics and their ability to perform actions that require human intelligence. Artificial intelligence has become a real and approachable realization today, but should be approached with care and diligence. Humans can create advanced artificial intelligence but should not because of the harm they may cause, the monumental advancement needed in the technology, and that its harm outweighs its benefits.
When most people think of artificial intelligence they might think of a scene from I, Robot or from 2001: A Space Odyssey. They might think of robots that highly resemble humans start a revolution against humanity and suddenly, because of man’s creation, man is no longer the pinnacle of earth’s hierarchy of creatures. For this reason, it might scare people when I say that we already utilize artificial intelligence in every day society. While it might not be robots fighting to win their freedom to live, or a defense system that decides humanity is the greatest threat to the world, artificial intelligence already plays a big role in how business is conducted today.
Artificial intelligence has become a big controversy between scientists within the past few years. Will artificial intelligence improve our communities in ways we humans can’t, or will they just cause danger to us? I believe that artificial intelligence will only bring harm to our communities. There are multiple reasons why artificial intelligence will bring danger to humanity, some of them being: you can’t trust them, they will lead to more unemployment, and they will cause more obesity.
Since the beginning of time, humans have thought and made many inventions. Repeatedly the newer one is better than the older. Our minds have created many remarkable things, however the best invention we ever created is the computer. computers are constantly growing and becoming better every day. Every day computers are capable of doing new things. Even though computers have helped us a lot in our daily lives, many jobs have been lost because of it, now the computer can do all of the things a man can do in seconds! Everything in the world relies on computers and if a universal threat happens in which all computers just malfunction then we are doomed. Computers need to be programmed to be able to work or else it would just be a useless chunk of metal. And we humans need tools to be able to live; we program the computer and it could do a lot of necessary functions that have to be done. It is like a mutual effect between us and he computer (s01821169 1).
The world today is a result of centuries of evolution; one of the major adaptations is technology, specifically the invention of the smartphone. The smartphone is a cellular phone that has the capabilities of performing similar functions to that of a computer (Oxford Dictionaries’ online dictionary, n.d.). The smartphone is owned by youth for the most part; however, adults and seniors are also turning toward using this device. This in turn demonstrates the popularity of this marvelous device, and is the reason why it is constantly monitored by its users. The continuous evolving of the populations' wants and needs such as communication, searching of information, entertainment and recording, makes owning a smartphone essential, and beneficial as it is portable, reliable and efficient.
Recently, the media has spent an increasing amount of broadcast time on new technology. The focus of high-tech media has been aimed at the flurry of advances concerning artificial intelligence (AI). What is artificial intelligence and what is the media talking about? Are these technologies beneficial to our society or potential threats? Medical facilities, police departments, and manufacturing plants have all been changed by AI. Will machine language and artificial neural network replace humans in the future?
Artificial Intelligence “is the ability of a human-made machine to emulate or simulate human methods for the deductive and inductive acquisition and application of knowledge and reason” (Bock, 182). The early years of artificial intelligence were seen through robots as they exemplified the advances and potential, while today AI has been integrated society through technology. The beginning of the thought of artificial intelligence happened concurrently with the rise of computers and the dotcom boom. For many, the utilization of computers in the world was the most advanced role they could ever see machines taking. However, life has drastically changed from the 1950s. This essay will explore the history of artificial intelligence, discuss the
Artificial intelligence is an idea of if the human thought process can be mechanized. It was around the 1940’s – 50’s that a group of people came together to discuss the possibility of creating an artificial brain and its uses. These people were a variety of scientists from different fields such as mathematics, economics, engineering, and etc. This was the birth of the field of artificial intelligence. While artificial intelligence would prove to be technologically revolutionary by introducing new ideas such as quantum computers or robots, said new ideas could result in the downfall of mankind. The result could range to being the plummet of the economy, the end of the human race, or even the corruption of the next generation and onwards. All of these problems resulting in the possibility of the end of the earth. The more we need to learn more about technology and further advance it, the closer we are getting to the extinction of the human race. These are the reasons why the advancement of artificial intelligent should be halted or banned so no harm can be done even without the intentions.
