During an interview, one should dress appropriately. Appearance is the first thing the interviewer looks upon your arrival. The way you look, the way you are dressed, and the way you present yourself already says a great deal, about what kind of person you are. Talking is one part of the interview, presenting yourself in a fashionable matter is another important part. In the course packet, in chapter 11, on page 300, one of the abiding “rules of the game”, meaning interview, is to dress appropriately. Dressing appropriately includes not only wearing good, business casual clothes, but also how you physically look. Having proper hair length, or right amount of perfume, and having a pleasant smell. Why is appearance so important? Imagine you hire …show more content…
This point involves a few factors. First, you should always stay positive because that brightens the mood of the interviewer. One example of avoiding the negative is criticizing your past employers or job experience. In the course packet, on page 299, one of the “rules of the game” is to avoid the negative. As well as in the article “Job Interview Do's and Don'ts” from The Balance, reiterate the same point of not criticizing your past employers. If you really need to make a point about your previous employer, then make it quick and short. Otherwise, you are a complainer, and just act as if you are not even appreciative of your previous job. This shows your interviewer that you are not grateful, and would think that you would make the same complaints about them if you worked at this new position. Second, you should avoid talking about your weaknesses. You might think that you are being honest, and showing the interviewer who you really are, but all you are doing is bringing yourself down, and only hurting yourself. From the class interviews, we saw that interviewers are looking for strengths, and unique strengths. The only weakness brought up during an interview is the one that you may have faced in the past. Therefore if you continue on the topic of your weak areas, you are not helping yourself, you are digging your own grave. Interviewers want to hear your strengths, as well as how you can acquire more skills. Lastly, you should also avoid talking about your personal problems. In the articles; “Job Interviewing Dos and Don’ts for Job-Seekers” and “16 Crucial Dos and Don'ts of Interviewing” both elaborate on how it is a turn off for interviewers to hear sob stories from their interviewees. You are interviewing to help better an organization or a company with your unique skills. Boasting or even talking about your problems is not of any concern to the interviewers. They are not your psychiatrist or therapists, but
Wear clean, appropriate clothes- you need to make sure that you look nice and professional.
I believe that everyone has their own strength and weaknesses, but not everyone is able to figure out their strengths and weaknesses correctly. Knowing our own strengths and weaknesses is essential because it can help to achieve success in anything we choose to do. For me, my weakness is the time management, communication skills and weak in preparing effective Curriculum Vitae (CV) Below will be further explaining all my personal weaknesses and the ways to overcome it.
In Jessica Bennett’s “Tales of a Modern Diva” and Daniel Akst’s “What Meets the Eye”,
Likewise, my weakness would be the tasks that I am ignoring, lack of confidence in doing certain tasks, motivation skills, and may be some negative habits. My opportunity may be to grow according to the implementation of the technology, offering a solution whenever there is any complaints and lastly the threats may be unable to move with the current trend and unable to handle the workforce. I have included motivation skills in strengths and weakness because if I have problems with my motivating skills then it may ruin the workplace environment and if I have good skills then it may be a reward to
Acting like a Gentleman isn’t enough to be chivalrous; you must look like one too. Maintain a classy and elegant appearance. Suits give off the paramount impression and portray the person as exceedingly decent and professional. Wearing a remarkable watch and other accessories illustrates you as realistic and trendy. Wear a suit that accurately fits you, as this depicts you sense of style and how much you care about yourself. Make sure that approximately half an inch of the shirt’s cuff should be visible. The trousers shouldn’t be too long or too short, too tight or too loose, they should be of ideal
I could give you a text book resume style answer were I reverse psychology you with a weakness that is really a strength, like I’m too passionate about my work, or I’m a perfectionist but I live in the real world where people make real mistakes. On a side note, doing that would be like Luke (student) attempting to Jedi(teacher) mind trick Yoda; a nice Star Wars references to lighten the room. I have and will continue to make mistakes. I’m a procrastinator. I always get things done but never leave too many minutes unaccounted for. I like to see the good in people, which I have learned can sometimes make you naïve. I once took 3 kids to the YMCA at work and they stole $200 out of the bathroom and I did not for a second think they had anything to do with it, which they absolutely did. That can happen sometimes when you’re an optimist who doesn’t want to believe that people are capable of doing bad things. I will however, be the first to admit my mistakes and come up with a course of action to correct them. I always learn from my mistakes and try to never make the same mistake twice. I have always found that respect and laughter make the best work place, for employees and clients and that education and team work help to build strong and empowered employees. I will always stick up for what I believe is right and always speak up when I feel that something is wrong. So yes I could have given you a generic answer that 100 other people
“Do not judge the book by its cover”. This is a very famous quote. But is really personal appearance not essential? (Elmer, n.d.).
To begin, I am going to write about my weaknesses and how they transitioned into strengths. First, I remember after each assignment in class was introduced I
...th their appearance but when it comes to having and keeping the job, it is the employers basis on who and how you are as a person. A person’s physical appearance reflects oneself, how he or she carries himself or herself. It shows how confident the person is. With professional appearance, it could higher your chances of getting hired, keeping your job, good customer service, and most importantly a positive outlook on yourself.
1. What Are Your Weaknesses? This is among the commonly asked questions of all time during a job interview. Handle it with care by limiting your weakness and give emphasis to your strengths when this
The night before my interview prepared a couple of outfits that seems appropriate attire for an interview. My post-baby body has left me with limited options for apparel. I ended up wearing a pair of grey dress slacks, a black T-shirt that came to my neck and a cute sweater that was striped with different shades of grey and black. I 've become very concerned during interviews because of my body art. I always attempt to dress very conservatively and I always cover any tattoos or other body modifications. Styling my hair also proposed an issue because of my dreadlocks. There also seems to be a negative stigma associated with Caucasian styling of dreadlocks, therefore I chose to wear a black scarf that covered my hair in a sufficiently. I left myself ample amount of time to dress and arrive at the interview. I was nervous I was going to be unable to locate the Crew Center on such a large campus. However, I was able to
Making a good first impression is of the utmost importance, for research studies indicate that the impression made in the first few seconds of an initial encounter has a long-lasting effect and very rarely changes over time. Positive first impressions can be made by being well-dressed and groomed, by being confident and self-assured, and by smiling and making eye contact when meeting someone for the first time.
Your appearances affect the way you are treated, you can either be discriminated against or it benefits you. I honestly believe that money doesn’t buy class. You don’t necessarily have to wear expensive outfits to look professional or from upper class, it all depends how you carry yourself. The way you dress and carry yourself says a lot about your class. That’s why first impression makes such a huge effect in us. The way you dress to an interview will determine whether you will get the job or not. I have also seen many different scenarios where people are discriminated against based on what they wear. I don’t think the way people dress is a reason to discriminate them but I do believe that everyone should know what’s appropriate depending on the occasion. Many people dress the way they feel most comfortable or they just wear simply what they like. If a man walks into a place with a suit and tie he will definitely get more attention and respect then another man with a regular shirt and jeans. I’m always saying to my family, friends, coworkers you have to dress to impress. I don’t need to have a two hundred dollar outfit to look sharp and give a first good impression on
When the time for an interview is getting close, everyone starts feeling nervous and do not know what to expect. These feelings are common among people especially if they do not have experience. However, the biggest mistake an interviewer can make is to have too much confidence and think that he or she could get any position any time. This approach is completely wrong and could cost the potential hiring for the position.
This interview helped me gain an excellent idea about a real interview situation. I took this opportunity seriously as I knew that this might be the only situation where I could judge myself before facing a real interview. Therefore I prepared myself to be as professional as possible. I believe I was right on selecting my dress, as my team member Nathan Copey said,
