In August 2017, America began to prepare for one of the most historical events of all time. On Monday, August 21, 2017, all over the country Americans experienced a Solar Eclipse that traveled from Oregon to the border line of Georgia and South Carolina. A Solar Eclipse is when the moon crosses between the Earth and the sun, blocking out the sun’s light. People were so excited for the event that some went to the extent of paying close to a thousand dollars just to witness this historic event, traveling from places as far as china. The last time the United States saw a total Eclipse was in 1979. No one expected to be able to see another one thirty years later. The Object itself made its own appearance between twelve thirty p.m. and two p.m. …show more content…
Safety glasses are extremely important to have during this time. This protects the eyes from damaging while watching. During the Eclipse, the sun is a very vibrant, yellow color shaped like a ball. The crescent shaped moon itself was pitch-black, with a gray outline around it. Suddenly the sky turns dark, but if looking towards the horizon it may appear to be reddish glow resembling a Sunset. The sun starts off bright and shiny until the moon appears, and basically covers the sun and makes a shadow, causing the sky to turn a cloudy and dusky grey color. The Solar Eclipse caused so many things to happen around the environment that it was amazing. The object itself stands out from many different things that have ever happened through the …show more content…
First of all the surroundings of the atmosphere started to change due to the Solar Eclipse was happening. Meanwhile the temperature had started to dropped during the process of the Eclipse making it windy outside. Trees were moving and making noises while the leaves were falling off the trees. The sky was light blue until the atmosphere changed and so the sky turned dark like night time. The street lights had come on due to it was partial night time. The animals came out in the opening thinking it was night time; flock of birds came out started flying around the sky. The smell was natural smelled like fresh air and nature. People were excited about seeing the Eclipse. Some people were taking pictures of the Solar Eclipse through their solar glasses. Some people were complaining about not seeing anything in the sky, but the sun. Some people were saying the Solar Eclipse was lame and boring so they stopped looking. Ms.Yopp’s class was the only class outside with pencil and paper writing notes down. People was talking and playing during the Solar Eclipse. Ms. Hill was very amazed and excited about the Solar Eclipse happening, that she started to make her favorite noises when it happened. Some was even taking group pictures with their friends. The surroundings were also loud and very busy with a lot going on. When the Solar Eclipse passed over the sky,
In Astronomy, an eclipse is an event in which an object is covered by passing through another body or having another body pass through it and the viewer. In our American history, there have been numerous events that have happened in certain years that we will never forget. 1831 is an unknown year for most people because most think that it was a just another year and that nothing important happened. Louis P. Masur would say other wise in his book 1831 Year of Eclipse. Masur depicts an “eclipse” as a pivotal year in American history because there were many historical events that occurred.
“The Eclipse” by Augusto Monterroso is a short story about Brother Bartolome Arrazola and his quest to fool the Indians in the jungle of Guatemala that were willing to sacrifice and kill him. Arrazola and his knowledge of Aristotle, a European Greek philosopher, thought he could fool then Indians to think that if they killed him, he can make the sun darken. Though, the Indians already knew that the sun would disappear. “The Eclipse” by Augusto Monterroso illustrates the idea that knowledge is the same across all civilizations no matter the cultural differences. Rays of golden sunlight were piercing the blue sky. Today was a hot day. There had been no rain in the last month. A young child was playing in the field while his father was harvesting the crops. The boy was playing among the newly harvested golden vegetables. There were a lot more vegetables than he remembered from years past. The boy knew they were going to sell most of this harvest. Where are the other plants that he remembered? Why was corn the only thing growing? Why is it in straight lines instead of winding around the property like it normally did? He pondered these questions on the way to school. Today, unlike normal, his teacher let him out of school early. Though he thought nothing of it at the time the sky was turning dark. It was almost like a monster ate the sun. Not only was it getting dark the wind started to blow. The wind sound like a wolf howling at a full moon. When he reached his house, his father rushed him inside. The first of many dust storms hit and the period known as the Dust Bowl began.
We were now at the bus stop. The sun had replenished and the sky full of glee. There was trail next to the bus stop, she started walking through it. The trees intertwined like arches and the shadows created an ominous feeling. As she walked through the forest, her whole body had a calm aura.
...hen sun, but this time it is later, closer to the middle of the night. The night is a portent of some momentous or calamitous situation occurring - the accident, and the timing is perfect for the paranormal to take place.
The sun shun brightly through the lightly clouded sky reflecting brightly off the bright green meadow grass. Twilight, and all her very best friends where having a picnic, it was a rare occasion that Twilight was able to visit her friends in Ponyvile for the past few months she was leading an expedition to the ancient remains of Old Equestria to learn more about long ago, although the expedition being a failure she was excited to see her seemingly ancient friends.
We continued down the infinitely long interstate towards our destination. Thunder clouds continued to rumble in, like an ocean tide rolling closer and closer to the beach front. Within minutes the entire landscape was calm and dark. It looked like a total eclipse of the sun, and the once ...
The year before the moon landing, 1968, was one of the most violent and bitter years for American citizens. From the war in Vietnam to the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Americans had begun to lose faith in their divided nation. With the activist riots in Chicago over preventing the election of Lyndon B. Johnson’s Vice-President, Hubert Humphrey, America was filled social unrest until the next year. In 1969, the uplifting broadcast of Neil Armstrong landing safely on the moon had given confirmation that America could still rise from the distress and achieve greatness. The significance of the moon landing became a symbol for the American people of all their nation’s accomplishments.
One of the areas I could identify during this observation was the Tycho. This was a interesting feature which looks like fireworks. Tycho is smaller than Copernicus and it is also relatively young in lunar terms, 108 years old. A dark ring surrounds Tycho which according to different studies, including one that landed on the crater, indicate the dark material is glassy impact-melted rock, scientist belief that a meteorite fell and during the impact and explosion occurred forming the crater.
The moon is a wondrous thing. Every night it's outside, up high in the sky, giving light to the world. Most people take advantage of the moon's light, because they don't know why or how the moon shines. Scientists today are busy proving theories and studying the moon, which will hopefully help society to understand the moon more. They know a lot about the moon, but there is still much more to learn.
In the Shadow of the Moon is a film about the most beautiful and incredible adventure in human history. It narrates the story of 12 fortunate American men who were able to walk upon the moon surface. They were the first human beings to stand on another world. The film reveals the astronauts experiences and memories for stepping on the moon. They share their stories, feelings, toughs and joy for stepping on the moon and travel through space. The film also portrays the beautiful scenes of the earth and the moon taken from space.
(Wonderopolis.org, 2016) defined an eclipse as when a planet or a moon gets in the way of the sun's light. On Earth, we can experience two kinds of eclipses, these are solar eclipses, and lunar eclipses, these eclipses have three heavenly bodies: the Sun, the moon, and the
Cultural Reflection on the Great American Solar Eclipse Before the fall semester began, I enjoyed one of the many benefits of my status as an “Asheville Native”, and attended a presentation by Professor Britt Lundgren on the upcoming solar eclipse. Although she covered a broad scope of content concerning solar eclipses, two aspects of her talk stood out to me in particular. The first aspect was an interesting similarity between ancient Chinese and Cherokee myths about solar eclipses. The ancient Chinese believed that a celestial dragon would swallow the sun on eclipse days, while the Cherokee believed it was a great frog who devoured the star.
The silver moon suspends in the velvet sky, glowing dimly. Moonlight travels through the yellowish leaves and sheds on the land. I see the obscure, indistinct shadows of the trees are swaying on the floor letting me have the illusion of thousands of devils dancing slyly in the night, planning some evil trick. The hazy mist surrounds the street making it more mysterious and attractive, and the bright...
The sunset was not spectacular that day. The vivid ruby and tangerine streaks that so often caressed the blue brow of the sky were sleeping, hidden behind the heavy mists. There are some days when the sunlight seems to dance, to weave and frolic with tongues of fire between the blades of grass. Not on that day. That evening, the yellow light was sickly. It diffused softly through the gray curtains with a shrouded light that just failed to illuminate. High up in the treetops, the leaves swayed, but on the ground, the grass was silent, limp and unmoving. The sun set and the earth waited.
