In the past, it was hard to stay connected to people who didn’t live near or close by to you. The only ways you met people were actually going out and physically meeting people or through friends and family. For some people it was hard to stay in touch with people if they moved away. In today’s world digital technology has changed the way we communicate through many different ways. Social media is one way that has changed the way everybody communicates. It is revolutionizing the way we communicate in a more efficient way through the workplace, our lives, and the way we connect and stay connected to one another. With that being said, social media has helped make communication a faster and easier way to meet people as well as staying connected. …show more content…
Using social media websites and applications you can do all that without actually being face to face with someone. We call it social media because users engage with it in a social context. It also includes conversations, commentary, and other user’s interactions. “It enables people to connect with others who share their interest”. (Online Social Media Networks) Social media users can post things like the news, photos, and videos and share it with other users. People use social media in their everyday lifestyle through sites such as Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram; this all depends on the person of course. Some people use social media apps like Facebook to shop for furniture, electronics, and cloths. Other people go on YouTube and watch videos on their favorite recipes that they want to make. On Instagram you can share photos that other artist may enjoy or find interesting. All of those pages and apps help you to meet and stay connected with people that have the same interest in …show more content…
A study that was done in 2009, showed that 73 percent of all adults older than the age of 18 had Facebook profiles. (Percentage of adult users who maintain profiles on selected social networking sites, by age group, 2009.) This shows that most people in the world use Facebook on a daily basis. Facebook allows you post statuses about how you feel, what you are doing, or even where you are. Users that are interested in those things may be your friends, family, or other users that find the same things interesting. Posting things to your wall can help you stay connected to the world, unless your profile is private, because it tells people what you are up to. Users that are interested in what you have to say will reply to your post. Replying to people’s post could potentially lead to other conversation that you guys would have in common, which then can lead to a new relationship.
Another way to meet people on Facebook is through instant messaging or IM. Instant messaging on Facebook is an exchange of texts but in real time. It’s a direct message usually private between a person or a group that instantly goes to the person or people you want to read them. This helps you stay connected to people because it allows you to directly write someone without everybody seeing it. It’s a private way to share your thoughts, ideas, and feelings with one another. Also you can from groups by adding people who might
Facebook is a great place to communicate in many ways with other people. One way you can communicate is by finding answers to any questions you might have. For example, if there is question I have about a class assignment, I simply can login to Facebook and send my friend a private message asking him what I need help with. It is a fast, easy, and simple. Many students use Facebook, so it’s a great communication tool to use to get quick help from your friend. Sometimes you might have forgotten what page number a homework assignment was on. If you don’t have a student’s cell phone number, with Facebook, you can easily contact someone in your class and find out more details about the assignment. You can also communicate with other people through Facebook groups. Facebook groups can be created about any topic. The groups often have a message or purpose that the creator is trying to get across. Users are able to join these groups and share their ideas with each other. Facebook events are another way users can communicate. For example, someone might be planning a birthday party at their house and would like to spread the news to as many friends as possible in a quick and organized way. Facebook event invitations allow users to provide all the details about the event, like time and location, and this can be sent to multiple users at one
Facebook, Twitter and other social platforms have become one of the central activities in human affairs. Used by people around the world promoting communication, social media gives scope to everyone to exhibit their ideas and thoughts. The plethora of social platforms is a revolutionary invention that is changing the way of how people moderate and communicate with others in their daily lives. Although many people admire this revolutionary concept, it can be argued that it has a negative impact on society. Extensive usage of social media can cause addiction, affecting productivity, and also reduce the level of human interaction, which in turn leads to isolation. Social media is correlated to many of the issues that revolve feminism and mental illness through anthropology, sociology and psychology.
The use of social networking sites is rising at great rates. According to a report conducted by the Pew Internet & American Life Project in 2012, ninety-five percent of individuals aged 12-17 use the internet; and eighty-one percent of those use social network sites (Pew Interest). Although it is known that social media can have a useful impact on lives, often times people forget that with a positive comes a negative. The continual use of social network sites will impact teen lives more negatively than positively because they can cause huge distractions from valuable and critical pursuits like education; they can also cause mental health issues and a reduction in communication skills.
Most students are exposed to pictures of their friend drinking using drugs or passing out on social networks before they graduate. Students that are exposed to such types of images are highly likely to consume alcohol and also it is highly probable that they will use marijuana. Just as disturbingly, these students are also able to access mind altering substances which include prescription drugs which are more readily than individuals that do not use social media (Lenhart, Madden, Smith, and Macgill, 2009). These students are more likely to have freedoms that abuse illegal and prescription drugs. Even though most parents may not appreciate the overall consequences that social media platforms have on the willingness of children to consume alcohol, they use drugs and tobacco. Social networking sites heavily influence most of these students. Most students claim that seeing pictures on social media that depict their schoolmates using drugs motivated them towards mimicking the behavior.
A way young people evaluate their self-worth is through social media. Today, one has sites such as Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram available to them from a very young age. While some say it is a normal due to the technology driven world we live in, access to these media sources greatly impacts developing minds. One comes to believe that it is not personality that matters, but the number of followers and online friends that one can build up. After being on Instagram for over four years, I have a following of about 500 people. When I get over eighty “likes” on a photo I am shocked. Although my numbers are miniscule compared to the 300 plus “likes” my roommate usually receives, my surprise comes mainly from the fact that I could not name eighty
If you don't have a Facebook account, you are a loser; either that or you live on a different planet. Facebook has over one billion active monthly users(Fowler). Facebook is one of the largest social networking websites in which “members…craft an image of themselves as they would like to be seen” by others (Reardon). You create a profile in which you share your favorite books, movies, music, quotes and any additional information you want with the world, all complete with your personal picture, birthday, relationship status, religious views and political affiliation. After you set up all that jazz, upload some pictures into a virtual photo album, add the very popular bumper sticker application and you are ready to use the search bar to find and connect with friends as well as Facebook “stalk” or “creep” complete strangers. This is why I think Matthew Hutson’s Blog “What’s the Optimal Number of Facebook Friends?” is somewhat unnecessary and inaccurate. The number of friends you do or do not have does not matter. As stated by Patrick T. Reardon, “on Facebook, a ‘friend’ is not necessarily someone you know well.”
Competition law The definition of anti-competitive behaviour which is stated by the OECD is the business practices that an organization choose to restrict inter-organization competition to maintain or increase their market position without providing goods and services at a lower price or of higher standard such that these practices occur in the form of cartels, collusions, conspiracies, mergers, predatory pricing, price discrimination, and price fixing. Therefore, these practices also occur in supplier–distributor relationships. For instance- agreements for exclusive dealing, geographic market restrictions, refusals to deal, resale price maintenance, and tied selling. Anti-competitive agreements made in one country can impose an impact on other
Social media has impacted everyone that has used it some point in his or her life. Since the world is increasing in technology advances, so is social media which can be good and bad. Technology has made a huge difference in the world and definitely how people are doing things now. Yes, the Internet can be good for the majority of things we use it for such as finding research, keeping in touch with family or friends who are far away, and saving time and money. Others like to take advantage of social media and use it in a way that can hurt people; it may not hurt them physically, but it can hurt them emotionally. Examples of how some people use the Internet in a bad way include cyberbullying, identity theft, or cyberstalking. Social media has impacted the Millennial generation for sure.
Social media is used by many people, young and old around the world as a way to communicate. Our lives have become so busy that it is difficult to maintain family and social relationships. “They use social networking sites including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc. On these sites users create profiles, communicate with friends and strangers, do research and share thoughts, photos, music, links and more” (Social Networking). With the use of social media you can be friends with all sorts of people without actually seeing or knowing them. “In many ways, social communities are the virtual equivalent of meeting at the general store or at church socials to exchange news and get updated on friends and families” (Cosmato).
A person’s life is reflected on Facebook. Because so much of someone’s life is on Facebook, anyone can have a sense of what is going on in their life. This is beneficial for parents away from their children in college or just away from the nest. A visual image is more attractive than reading a lengthy blog about an individual's day. With Facebook someone can post albums at a time and can share a special event that just recently occurred. Instant messaging has improved the speed that users can communicate with each other. If they see that their friend is online all that needs to be done is a message with the word “Hey.” Facebook allows for users to connect with friends time zones away.

People are able to communicate anytime with each other without fear of disrupting anyone. People can’t call each other at two in the morning, but they can send each other an email or comment on some’s profile picture. That makes people more connected and more involved in each other’s lives. “Social media tools can be a gre...
First of all, social media has made it possible for people, or even families, who live far away from each other to communicate easily. Before, people used to communicate through writing letters and having them sent through the mail, which would take a lot of time and communication could not be done fast enough and constantly, however, now communication is easily done through social interaction networks on a daily basis using the Internet. Head of marketing at FreshNetworks, Jo Stratmann, states that indeed social media has completely transformed the way that people communicate with each other, and in a positive way, and is improving internal communication between people and even companies and workplaces (Using social media to improve internal communications, n.d.).
