The Hunger Games is written by Suzanne Collins. The Hunger Games was published September 14, 2008. This book was so fun and exciting to read. My favorite character is Katniss Everdeen. Katniss Everdeen is the main character in the story. The story is about Katniss and her family struggling to survive each day. While not having freedom and living in poverty,Katniss finds a way to survive. Katniss also plays the role of a provider for her family since her dad his dead and her mother is depressed and doesn’t take care of Katniss's little sister Prim.

Katniss Everdeen lives in a time where the world is not such a happy place. Her country, Panem, is divided into 12 Districts. The districts are governed by the Capitol. The President of the Capitol, President Snow, watches over the 12 districts every move. Katniss lives with her mother and sister in District 12. District 12 is a coal mining district. Katniss has had to provide for her family since her dad passed away. She wakes up daily and sneaks into the woods with her friend Gail in hopes to kill enough food to feed her family. They draw the names of one girl and one boy from each district at the Reaping. The males and females whose names are drawn, known as tributes, are taken and placed in the Hunger Games. They have to fight for their life and only one can survive. The winner gets to live in a house in Victor Circle in their district and are provided with food and other luxuries they normally wouldn't have.The Hunger Games are televised for all to see. On the day of the 74th annual Reaping, Katniss volunteers to go in place of her younger sister Prim, whose name was drawn to represent District 12 at the Hunger
