The Houlocaust
Linking Past to Present
The Holocaust was an extremely awful thing that should have never happened. But what were the causes of it? You’re probably wondering why I ask. Well, after I noticed the tremendous amount of innocent children involved, these questions presented themselves. People, have been stereotyping and assuming too much of people. This is why a lot of social problems come to be. Some people (namely the Nazis) can be harsh and they arrogantly need a scapegoat for some of their actions. This is what happened in the Holocaust, when the Jewish people were the Nazi’s meek and uncelebrated scapegoats. We know the facts of the past, but do we have enough knowledge and wisdom to prevent this from ever happening again? We won’t know it, but we can start preventing this right now. Resist hate. It’s a start and something we all can do.
One of the biggest dangers to society is: silence. If something bad is happening and we know about it, we can’t sit around and let it happen. We have to stand up for what is right and resist hate. That is the only way we can be sure to preserve the future. Take matters into our own hands and try not to be silent. That is also one of the things that went wrong during the Holocaust. Bystanders were in the middle of it, going along with the crowd, not really listening to their gut feeling, their conscience, just too busy being a nobody, another meaningless person on the face of the earth. Letting millions and millions of Jews being killed.
People these days are so scared of the idea of kill or be killed, that they totally ignore the fact that whatever little thing they do helps immensely. If you ever see some injustice going on, don’t just be some punk who doesn’t care about what’s going on. Don’t just be another meaningless person. Stand up and say something about the situation. It is guaranteed that someone will listen. (It worked magnificently for civil rights activist Martin Luther King.)
I think if we learn from the past and gain more wisdom from its high points we should be able to create a strong change. But it’s not that easy obviously, because people are still undergoing the harsh treatment of prejudice today. We’ve also got to teach how prejudice is unacceptable, and such bile should forever be terminated so we may have a not so bright future.
Not even the most powerful Germans could keep up with the deaths of so many people, and to this day there is no single wartime document that contains the numbers of all the deaths during the Holocaust. Although people always look at the numbers of people that were directly killed throughout the Holocaust, there were so many more that were affected because of lost family. Assuming that 11 million people died in the Holocaust, and half of those people had a family of 3, 16.5 million people were affected by the Holocaust. Throughout the books and documentaries that we have watched, these key factors of hate and intolerance are overcome. The cause of the Holocaust was hate and intolerance, and many people fighting against it overcame this hate
As you can see there are many reason why a society can fail or get destroyed and it can perpetuate destruction of a society also. When people don’t question authority and when they are ignorant or naive it can lead to the destruction of a society as seen through the two texts of Night and Fahrenheit 451 we can see that it is clearly evident that the destruction of a society is clearly happening if these to are evident.
At the start of Adolf Hitler’s reign of terror, no one would have been able to foresee what eventually led to the genocide of approximately six million Jews. However, steps can be traced to see how the Holocaust occurred. One of those steps would be the implementation of the ghetto system in Poland. This system allowed for Jews to be placed in overcrowded areas while Nazi officials figured out what to do with them permanently. The ghettos started out as a temporary solution that eventually became a dehumanizing method that allowed mass relocation into overcrowded areas where starvation and privation thrived. Also, Nazi officials allowed for corrupt Jewish governments that created an atmosphere of mistrust within its walls. Together, this allowed
In conclusion, both of these acts of racial hatred, intolerance, and paranoia affected many people and many generations of people later. It is important that we don't make the same mistakes again; or there may be even worse consequences. This ultimately all comes down to having war be priority number one and basic human rights being forgotten or ignored for the benefit of war. It is because of war that intolerance spread and hatred against certain religions or races spread throughout groups of people and countries. During a hard time, everyone wants somebody else to blame. Although war may be necessary to defend one's country, it has a terrible price to pay. Finally, if war, power, and greed weren't 'number one', would Adolf Hitler have come to power in the first place?
The Holocaust has many reasons to it. Some peoples’ questions are never answered about the Holocaust and some answers are. The Holocaust killed over 6 million Jews (Byers.p.10.) Over 1.5 million children (Byers, p.10.)They were all sent to concentration camps to do hard labor work. Jewish people weren’t the only ones sent to concentration camps. People such as people with disabilities, Homosexuals, Gypsies, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Communists, and Socialists (Byers.p.12). Everyone that was sent to concentration camps was sent via Train cars (www.historychannel.com). They had no food, water, or rest rooms up to 18 days. Many people died from the lack of food and water (Byers, p.15.). They children under 12 and elderly were sent to death camps because they were too weak or young too do the hard labor work so they were exterminated quickly (Byers, p.17.). Everybody at the camps were ordered to wear a certain colored star so they were easily spotted. The Holocaust went on from 1939 to 1945. Throughout all those years it was BAD.
It is hard to grasp the number of lives lost during the Holocaust. How someone could have so much hatred towards one group of people. Or how so many people could set back and watch something like this take place without protest. To begin to understand how a tragedy like the Holocaust could have took place without intervention we need to understand antisemitism.
Causes & Effects of the Holocaust There are times in history when desperate people, plagued by desperate situations, blindly give evil men power. These men, once given power, have only their own evil agendas to carry out. The Holocaust was the result of one such man's agenda. In short, simplicity, sheer terror, brutality, inhumanity, injustice, irresponsibility, immorality, stupidity, hatred, and pure evil are but a few words to describe the Holocaust. A holocaust is defined as a disaster that results in the tremendous loss of human life.
As early as age thirteen, we start learning about the Holocaust in classrooms and in textbooks. We learn that in the 1940s, the German Nazi party (led by Adolph Hitler) intentionally performed a mass genocide in order to try to breed a perfect population of human beings. Jews were the first peoples to be put into ghettos and eventually sent by train to concentration camps like Auschwitz and Buchenwald. At these places, each person was separated from their families and given a number. In essence, these people were no longer people at all; they were machines. An estimation of six million deaths resulting from the Holocaust has been recorded and is mourned by descendants of these people every day. There are, however, some individuals who claim that this horrific event never took place.
It appears that we have been investigating the cause and effects of race and racism for quick some time, as a middle age adult in the year 2015, I feel that we have run into a brick wall which seems too hard to break though, too wide to get around and runs to deep to get under.
Causes of the Holocaust The Holocaust took place for a number of reasons, some of which were long term and short term. The main reasons are for centuries. Germany was an anti-Semitic country Jews were used as scapegoats. for the German problems. Also centuries of Nazi persecution caused the Holocaust in particular.
The senseless massacre of millions upon millions of innocent people all started by a man named Adolf Hitler who came to power in 1933. The Nazis brought terrible fatalities and chaos in Europe beginning with a purified race and ending with the Final Solution in a maniacal plot to exterminate Jews. The holocaust is a awful incident that should have never happened in the first place, but I believe that this made me more aware of the fundamental causes and vast implications involved in how a genocide can occur. I also learned how this changed the future I live in today. I believe that the holocaust still plays an important role in current times, history contributes to moral understanding, and it helps us understand people and societies, and makes an impact in our own lives as well. Examples of this would be how tactical we start and finish wars, if we let propaganda get to us, or how we don’t let just one person reign. By studying the past and different societies in the past, a broad viewpoint can help us change and improve the future. This moment in history is much better than before more rights and freedoms, better technology, and more education to help prevent any future genocide. From the holocaust people can learn not to do this again. The world would be a better place if all races and creeds developed tolerance and respect for each other - but all sides have to make the effort. Hitler’s perfect
It is often a topic that many are uncomfortable talking about and tend to push to the side. There is a very big problem with that though, people in this generation need to know what happened in the past and be fully educated on everything that happened, in order to help prevent something terrible like that from ever happening again. The Holocaust was caused by a very few distinct reasons. Hitler’s very strong belief of anti semitism and his extreme hatred for the Jewish community was among the most powerful of causes for the beginning of the Holocaust. Also , the various political, economic, and social problems that the country of Germany was facing during the time leading up to the second World War massively contributed. The Nazi Party’s effective use of propaganda, scapegoating, and their military strength were also very strong factors. These causes therefore were the reason why the Holocaust occurred, and it had very many effects that arose from its happening. Millions upon millions were dead after it had finally reached an end. The survivors suffered vast amounts of physical and mental pain and challenges. Finally, lots of books and websites were made about the Holocaust in order to provide information to people about the terrible event that had occurred. All in all, the Holocaust was a very terrible and heartbreaking event that occurred in our world 's history, but also it is a very crucial thing for
Taking as much as a simple action can really help prevent the future genocide, also it can help save so many lives. You don’t have to do anything big or dangerous but to take small courage and spread out the words, to teach others about the Holocaust is the simplest thing you can do and it gives affection to the world. The Holocaust is an overpowering example of this terrifying genocide and persecution and in the memory of the Jews; the memory of its horror must encourage our younger generations to engage against such heinous crimes today and in the future.
Racism and prejudice has been present in almost every civilization and society throughout history. Even though the world has progressed greatly in the last couple of decades, both socially and technologically, racism, hatred and prejudice still exists today, deeply embedded in old-fashioned, narrow-minded traditions and values.
People are often blinded by the situation in which they are in, and by their personal motives which drive them to act. Humans, by nature, have faults and vices that are potentially harmful. It is the responsibility of society to anticipate harm, whether to oneself or to others. Once dangerous patterns and habits are recognized, it is imperative to anticipate and prevent injury from reoccurring. To allow any individual to be inflicted harm forces citizens to lose trust in the government, thus unraveling the fabric of society.... ...
