Research Paper: The Homeless are Invisible “I was once treated as invisible on the boardwalk in Atlantic City. I actually saw friends I had known for years walk by and not recognize me,” said TJ Hadley (Steve Hall 3). From the quote one can tell that not noticing and forgetting about these homeless people has become a vital problem in the world, but more specifically large cities in the United States of America. These homeless people are struggling in great enormities; the least we can do for them is give a genuine smile as if just saying, “You will get through this,” or “You are worth it, keep trying.” But no, too many “normal” human beings that are walking on a sidewalk totally omit these homeless people from their view. The New York City Rescue Mission posted the observation video to YouTube, 11 months ago. The main idea of the analysis was to investigate the arising problem of omitting these wandering humans. Steve Hall stated, "With this project, we can help the homeless visible again. We need people to understand that the homeless are regular folks just like you and me," (p 3 Hall). In said video, make up artists, stylists and individuals from the New York City Rescue Mission rearranged for people to give their loved ones a shock back to reality. These people posed as homeless people and set out on the street where they knew their family member would walk. The experiment took place in various places in New York City: against a graffiti wall, along side a light pole, and even on a piece of cardboard for cushion in the middle of a busy New York City sidewalk. "The experiment called attention to the fact the homeless in New York are so deeply ignored, that family members were completely invisible to their own loved ones" (p 3 Hall).
