If you haven't been living in your uncle's basement for 25 years with food being brought to you periodically, you probably know that lately, the majority of the best selling movies today have been movie adaptions from books. Popular movies of this type include the Hunger Games series, the Divergent series, American Sniper, and the Hobbit. However, you can't talk about those movies without discussing the difference between the book and movie. That's why in today's essay, The Hobbit book and movie trilogy will be scrutinized, and discussed. This writing piece will look at the unique chracteristics of both pieces of media, while also looking at the similarities between the two. Now, the best place to start for this discussion would be the movie …show more content…
The first characteristic that makes these movies unique is how the movies flow. The movies tend to go into greater detail about events, and also gives multiple perspectives from different characters. A common habit of these films is designating a moment from the book to a certain party, such as a character or group, then let the designated party live out the moment, then switch to another scene in which another party is chosen, and so on. Another characteristic of these films is that, due to the fact that this version of the story is a movie trilogy, all three films have a climax near the ending of each one. It would be peculiar to divide a full story into three movies, and not have a climax in any of the films except the last because the story had its climax and aftermath near the end. A good movie always has a climax, so as a result, the writers to needed to add a climax to the ending of each movie. A final originality of these films is the new characters. To add more flavor to the film, the writers chose to insert a love story between Fili and an elf that never appeared in the book, while also adding more characters and side stories to the main plot, such the king's assistant, and his unhealthy want for capital. Now that the movie is covered, let's look at the version of the Hobbit story that was written in …show more content…
The first noticeable difference is the pacing of this story. Instead of having the elaborate story storytelling elements that the movie trilogy has, the paper form of the story doesn't mess around. This story describes what Bilbo experiences and sees, and only that. It doesn't go into a lot of detail, and it only tells the reader what's necessary. Another endowment of this story is how it interjects little things from the narrator here and there. One of things that is admired by readers of this story is how the author seems to tell the story as if he's a storyteller, throwing out comments and little pieces of information out there so that his children may agree, disagree, understand, or even laugh. One last distinction to make note of is of how less descriptive the book is than the movie. First off, it would be best to note that there is no lack of descriptiveness in the book at all. The book is just not as descriptive as the movies, because the movies prefer to add some cinematic elements for detail, such as panoramic viewpoints and rotations around the scene, to let the viewer get a clearer view of the scene. Now that we're done contrasting, let's look at the comparisons between the
This is my view on the movie and book. I likes the movie better the book because the
One of the differences between the movie and the book lies in the settings or rather the surrounding in both the movie and the book. The book depicts an exemplary factual tale, one of mountain myths, situated in 1930's Northern parts of Canada. The book portrays an account of C...
In conclusion, details involving the characters and symbolic meanings to objects are the factors that make the novel better than the movie. Leaving out aspects of the novel limits the viewer’s appreciation for the story. One may favor the film over the novel or vice versa, but that person will not overlook the intense work that went into the making of both. The film and novel have their similarities and differences, but both effectively communicate their meaning to the public.
In the movie, it is told in a third person point of view and the characters look a lot more different than how they do in the book. The movie goes by much quicker than the book. Also Pony goes straight home after the church burns down.
Though the events and a lot of the dialogue are the same in both the book and the movie the crux of the two are completely different. The book focuses a lot more on sexual tension and sexual exploration. The...
J.R.R. Tolkien’s book The Hobbit, has sold over 100 million copies and is translated into about 50 different languages, in about 17 years. Another popular book that was written by C.S. Lewis, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, has also sold over 100 million copies and has been translated into around 47 languages, since it was published in the 1950’s. These two amazing authors have written many other popular books, but the connection between The Hobbit and The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe is rare. The two novels were loved by so many people that they were made into movies and are part of a sequel. The discoveries that can be made about the two authors, novels, and the connections between the books are extraordinary.
The book is some what different from the movie. There are many differences between the book and the movie. Like when PonyBoy and Johnny went to the movie theater Pony wished that he was big and buff like the guy in the movie. “I was wishing I looked like Paul Newman-he looks tough and I don’t
Overall, the movie and book have many differences and similarities, some more important than others. The story still is clear without many scenes from the book, but the movie would have more thought in it.
There are many similarities presented to the audience between the movie and the novel. One
Both the book and the film have the similarities and differences, but the main differences consist of the shoes, the wicked witch, and the ending of the story. First the shoes in the book were silver, but in the movie they were ruby. Second the wicked witch of the west in the text had one powerful eye and only appeared once, yet in the movie the witch had both eyes, and appeared 3 times before the final encounter. Last, Dorothy in the text actually went to the land of oz and in the movie it was all a dream. In conclusion the Wizard of Oz had many differences between the book and the film that changed the shape of the
Each version also has the main characters boarding up the windows. Anyone who thought the birds won’t attack are usually found dead, but in the movie they are found with their eyes pecked out. Also, both the story and the movie have REALLY bad endings! They aren’t very similar, but they both leave you hanging. When you see a movie or read a book you want to know what happens to the main characters. In these two, you didn’t get an ending. They left you hanging and for some people that ruins it all.
I have only included what I have to believe are largely important plot gaps and differences in the movie version in comparison to the book one, and so I apologize again if I have missed any other major ones. Forgive me, please.
..., the film portrayed the kids being overly whelmed with hatred when they received gifts from their parents. It was like they never knew their parents existed. Another example of the difference between the book and the movie is Mr. Freeman (mother’s boyfriend) was presented as being very reserved with the children. In the movie he was seen as warm, talkative, and friendly towards Maya and her brother. The film also showed Mr. Freeman’s manly behavior by confronting Vivian (Maya’s mother) at her job. However, in the book Mr. Freeman never left the house, he always sat and waited at home for her.
From a structural perspective, movies and novels appear as polar opposites. A film uses actors, scripts, and a set in order to create a visual that can grab and keep the attention of their viewers. However, an author strives to incorporate deeper meaning into their books. Despite these differences in media, 1984 and The Hunger Games present unique, yet similar ideas.
Have you ever read a book and then watched the movie and saw many differences? Well you can also find lots of similarities. In the book “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and the movie “Tom and Huck” there are many similarities and differences having to do with the characters personalities, the setting, the characters relationships with one another and the events that take place.
