A lot of people don’t know what the term animal husbandry actually means. Through my research I have come to define it as the care for and breeding of animals. Animal husbandry has been practiced since the age of the Neolithic Revolution. It is still being done today and probably will still be done in the future. Today animal husbandry is very common and is actually a great way to make a living. A variety of animals can be domesticated and used for the practice of animal husbandry. It is a misconception that animal husbandry is only for the use of agricultural or farm animals. Domestication goes hand in hand with animal husbandry but animal husbandry does not always require domestication. In this paper I will be displaying animal husbandry from 1 BC and before, 0-1000 AD, 1000-1800 AD, and 1800 AD – Present times.
Animal husbandry was very important from 1 BC and before. Domestication was the key part of the use of animals in the BC’s. Back then it was believed that the dog was the first domesticated animal. Around 13,000- 30,000 years ago dogs were domesticated. The first dogs were tame wolves. They transformed into what we know as dogs today. They have a different build and have a different wiring of their brain. The main way the dog became domesticated is because humans would feed them. Dogs were used for carrying things and just used as a companion. Sheep and goats are believed to first be used around 11,000 years ago. They were used for their wool and for food. Around 7000 BC cats became pets and cattle became domesticated. Many pack animals, such as donkeys, began being used around 4000 BC. In ancient Mesopotamia animal husbandry was one of the main factors in the making of civilizations. Domestication allowed people to liv...

The Amerindians used animals sparingly in work. The domesticated animals which they had included: dogs, guinea pigs, and various types of fowl (Crosby, 74). They had no types of ridden animals and they chose to use themselves as beasts of burden. Thi...

Animal testing is a subject appalled by many people. It is considered to be unethical, inhumane, and downright cruel. One of these reasons for the opposition of animal experimentation is due to the belief shared by many animal activist groups, such as PETA, that animals are kept in appalling living conditions in research facilities. Reasons to believe this are caused by minor instances of laboratories not abiding the law. However, despite these instances the welfare of test animals are preserved by many laws and regulatio...

...tion, including their initial evolution, their domestication, and the roles they played in human society throughout the ages. It is a relatively new book being published in 2010. Darcy Morey, the author of this book is a zooarchaeologist and focuses his research on the relationship between dogs and humans throughout time. He is a graduate of the University of Tennessee. This book is based on the authors own research and also refers to the information gathered by many other scientists, all of which are listed in the reference section of the book. As mentioned this book contains the results of research from many scientists and is beneficial for learning both general and more scientific knowledge on the subject. I would recommend it to anybody who is conduction a research on the topic. This book was found using I-Share using the search term the domestication of dogs.
Both “Animal Liberation and Environmental Ethics: Bad Marriage, Quick Divorce” by Mark Sagoff and “All Animals Are Equal” by Peter Singer seem to ignore a fundamental defining characteristic of animals, namely their level of domestication. These two essays’ assumptions and exclusions inspired me to think more about domestication. Partially through the process of brainstorming and outlining my arguments, I read “Animal Liberation: A Triangular Affair” by J. Baird Callicott, which at the very least dealt with domestication, but I found that his version of the land ethic dealt with wild animals better than with domesticated animals.
Seeing maimed animals are not pleasant images. Those images sometimes appear across computer and television screens. The advocacy groups who place these images in the public’s view are trying to jolt people into the realization that abuse exists. For every ten seconds that goes by an animal is getting abused (“Animal… Statistics”). One statistic states that “71% of pet-owning women entering women’s shelters reported that their batterer had injured, maimed, killed or threatened family pets for revenge or to psychologically control victims; 32% reported their children had hurt or killed animals” (“Animal… Violence”). Animal cruelty comes in several forms, some of which people do not know. There is animal experimenting, animal abuse, and mistreatment of animals. and through revealing the results from research, one discovers the horrific effects of animal abuse.

Executive Summary Every 60 seconds, an animal is abused. Dogs, cats, horses, and many other types of animals are being neglected and tortured everyday, yet resulting in few and minor consequences for the perpetrators. Animal abuse is prevalent in the United States and has been an ongoing issue since the 1970's, and prior to. Society as a whole has chosen to avoid the facts and arguments about animal cruelty, because to some it is seen as acceptable and typical. It becomes much more frowned upon when people actually see the results of the cruelty, especially in the media.

Animals have played a role in society since evolution began. First, animals were used for food, their skins were used for clothing and shelter, and their bones for tools. Even though animals became domesticated they were still used as such and eventually for many other purposes. Today most of us accept the idea that people may use animals but treat them correctly. The United States has even created anti-cruelty laws
