As the demand for seafood has increased worldwide, the fish industry has been changing over the years as well. The ocean is not how it used to be, nor the quantity of fishes or the condition of the ecosystems within these waters. Human behavior and food trends are reflected in the demand for fish over the world, and as this demand increases the capturing methods has changed too, causing a horrific effect called “Overfishing.” In order to show the major events, causes, and consequences of the industrialization of fishing, this timeline will focus on the history of overfishing during the last 80 years. This belief is so strong that even people that care about their food choices, decide to become vegetarians and continuing eating fish or other seafood. This timeline will present information and facts that people ignored about the fish industry. The first demographic group chosen for this timeline is a twenty-two years old student from San Diego State University called Jennifer Thompson. She is a Marine Biologist major and is passionate about conservation. Jennifer wants to inform people how to conserve our oceans clean and wealth; hence, one of her major focus is the issue of overfishing. She is gathering information for a school presentation; therefore, she is looking for a serious, informative, and well-supported infographic. The second demographic group is a forty-year-old stay-home mom called Angela Gomez. She is Mexican-American and her work is to take care of her two little children. The most challenging part of this timeline is to combine the style of our scientist and graphic designer. Both are expecting informative facts about overfishing, but one wants the information to be presented more scientifically or serious, and the other more creative or artistic. Based on my research, most of the infographics related to overfishing are presented with vectors and bold icons, and saturated colors. To distinguish my timeline from the ones, it will be based on a vertical orientation, and will combine photographs and illustrations. In order to conserve a serious tone, the use of color will be minimal. The information will be organized, clean, and straightforward in order to keep the timeline user-friendly and easy to read.
