Ballet is a beautiful artwork which expresses ones dance ability beyond core and strength, it is a very mental and physical sport. It has graced the stages of many and has made people smile and cry whether you are on the one on the stage or the audience cheering after every step. It’s a dream to watch. Ballet was originated in the 15th century italian renaissance courts. Ballet was performed at wedding celebration where music and dance would be watched and praised. Many people praised ballet for what it was. They gave it all it deserved. Catherine de Medici who was the wife to King Henry II was one who loved ballet very much and treated it in the way of a job. Giving the performer insight on what character they are playing and who they are becoming. With each step on the stage you are a character and are there to perform for the audience. One would describe there raise to fame in one word. Grand. Another word describing them would be unyielding. They are a ballet company which resides in New York City and they did not have it easy. Opening in 1933 just after the great depression, Lincoln Kristen, George Balanchine, Sergei Diaghilev all created the New York City Ballet. Just as ballet 's Costumes were in its most dramatic time period. The time of the Ballerina, the start of the show. The costume shop at the New York city Ballet is still around today and thriving like it did back in 30’s when it just started. Originated by Barbara Karinska who was George Balanchine 's costumer. Karinska then would pass on the great burdon and job to fellow famous ballet designers/costumers such as Ben Benson and Barbara Matera. The shop is major piece of ballet history for the company. It now resides in the Rose Building at Lincoln Center Plaza. It is in a very small room but do not doubt the great efficient workers that work day and night of gorgeous costumes.
