Jude: The Never Ending Hero Jude is the greatest hero of his time. He’s been alive for over thousands of years and not one of those years he has ever given up or stopped saving the lives of mortals on the earth with his sidekick and best friend, Penny. Jude has the smartest brain known to man which allows him to think his way out of any situation. He also has the power of turning invisible which allows him to slip his way out of any tricky room or trap. Penny, on the other hand, is a mortal. She’s known Jude ever since he was cast down to earth from the hero world, Musely. Penny also knew everything about nature and just everything about the world in general. She knew all the weaknesses of every creature that could ever cause harm to Jude. Penny went along with Jude to make sure that he was always safe. Jude and Penny had just gotten back from saving the princesses of Kenya when suddenly, the Queen of England was taken hostage by Jude’s only enemy, Cyrus. Cyrus is much more powerful than Jude and used to be a hero, that is, until Jude was born and Cyrus suddenly changed his ways, knowing that Jude was going to be the greatest hero, Cyrus was always jealous of Jude. The King and the Princes had a meeting with Jude discussing whether or not Jude would be able to save the Queen. Jude was very confident about saving the queen but the royals were not, they were worried that Cyrus would be too much for Jude to handle. They told Jude he had to prove to them that he was capable of saving the Queen. They sent Jude off to the forest without Penny to see how much he could really do. While Jude was in the forest, they sent a huge monster there with him. As they were battling, the royals were watching along with the rest of Great Britain to s... ... middle of paper ... ...to know was that a stab in the shoulder would not be enough to kill Jude. As Cyrus started to walk away, Jude saw his sword laying on the ground next to him, grabbed it slowly so Cyrus wouldn’t hear him, and silently, with his wounded arm, stabbed Cyrus straight in the back knowing it would kill him right away. Once Cyrus was done away with, Jude and Penny took the Queen back to the castle where she would be safe from anything that could harm her. The royals were very proud of Jude and his sidekick Penny and awarded them with many gifts from all throughout the kingdom. They were also rewarded with a huge feast and festival so everyone in the kingdom could thank them for their good deed and their Queen being back home safe and sound. Jude and Penny are legends and will never be forgotten for all the wonderful and life threatening things they did. The End.
Then they carried out their plan and got Mr. Griffin where they wanted him. They left him all alone and tied up in the mountains. Watching a film, one can easily recognize plot, theme, characterization, etc., but not many realize what basic principle lies behind nearly every story conceived: the hero’s journey. This concept allows for a comprehensive, logical flow throughout a movie. Once the hero’s journey is thoroughly understood, anyone can pick out the elements in nearly every piece. The hero’s journey follows a simple outline. First the hero in question must have a disadvantaged childhood. Next the hero will find a mentor who wisely lays out his/her prophecy. Third the hero will go on a journey, either literal or figurative, to find him/herself. On this journey the hero will be discouraged and nearly quit his/her quest. Finally, the hero will fulfill the prophecy and find his/herself, realizing his/her full potential. This rubric may be easy to spot in epic action films, but if upon close inspection is found in a wide array of genres, some of which are fully surprising.
The Outsiders by SE Hinton The Outsiders by SE Hinton is a great coming-of-age novel that is about gangs, violent but also at the same time about love and brother ship. In the book, the society suddenly thinks the greasers, Pony, Johnny and Dally, are heroes. That really got me thinking. What is a hero?
David was known to dangerous jobs because of his strength. On one particular occasion he was fixing a barn, and he happened to fall from a great height and at first was proclaimed unhurt.3 For several days, he had a headache which progressively got worse and those several days turned into weeks. Soon he was diagnosed with a fever by a doctor and the only way to cure him was if blood was drawn. This affected Clara greatly because from a young age she had formed a very strong and unbreakable bond with her brother.3 This bond enabled her to remain by her brothers side day and night, and she “learned to take all directions for his medicines from his physician (who had eminent counsel) and to administer them like a genuine nurse.”3 She took care of him for two years until he was sent to a doctor for treatment. During this particular incident, was when she willingly let go of her own needs to meet her brothers needs.3 Caring for her brother gave Clara a purpose and after he was healed “instead of feeling that my freedom gave me time for recreation or play, it seemed to me like time wasted, and I looked anxiously about for some useful occupation”3 this what helped her come to the conclusion that helping others helped her get rid of the shy and timid nature that had held her back for so long. Her shy and timid nature was caused by a speech impediment she had known as a lisp. Her lisp caused her to feel self-conscious and insecure disabling her from talking to people but with the help of her family Clara was able to overcome it. In an attempt to help Clara overcome her fear, her parents sent her to a boarding school, believing that Clara would lose her timid characteristic if thrown amidst strangers.3 After Clara was sent home for not eating was when she realized the importance of overcoming her timid nature as
A brave hero often risks his/her lives to save someone else. In Zeitoun, Dave Eggers tells us a story of Abdulrahman Zeitoun, the hard working Syrian American owner of a contracting company in New Orleans. Zeitoun and his wife Kathy ran the company together. They have three children named Nademah, Safiyah, Aisha. Kathy has a child from her first marriage. Zeitoun is very closed with his family and he takes his family like nobody else. When hurricane Katrina landed in 2005, endless number of people were affected. Mayor Nagin ordered a first time ever mandatory evacuation. Kathy moved with the children to her sister’s house in Baton Rouge. Zeitoun refused to leave with his family because he didn’t want lose his properties, but at the same time, his customers trusted him and gave him their house keys to check on their houses, which caused his separation with his family. This illustrates that Zeitoun is a responsible, powerful, trustworthy, and unselfish person. During the hurricane, Zeitoun was using a canoe rescuing people. Due to the lack of rescue work, many people didn’t get enough supports at that time. Zeitoun had the courage to sacrifice his family, safety, and selfish needs for saving the people.
Jude, Nel’s husband, and Sula have intercourse and betray Nel. Yet, it is Sula, not Jude who hurts Nel the most. Now Nel's " thighs were really empty” (1037) and it was Sula who had taken the life from them. Nel's happiness left when her thighs went dead. It was too much. “To lose Jude and not have Sula to talk to about it because it was Sula that he had left her for” (1037). Sula was confused. “They had always shared the affection of other people” (1041). “Marriage, apparently had changed all that” (1041). The friends no longer benefited from each other's company. Nel was no longer a host for

A tragic hero is defined as a person of high social rank, who has a tragic flaw or flaws that lead to their downfall. These heroes’ downfalls are usually either complete ruin or death. Tragic heroes face their downfall with courage and dignity. While many characters in Julius Caesar could fit these conditions, the person who fits the role of a tragic hero the best is Marcus Brutus. Brutus develops into a tragic hero throughout the play, and this is shown though his qualifications of a tragic hero, his high status, his tragic flaws, and his courage in the face of his death.
One of his difficulties arise from the death of his girlfriend Effie. He feels guilty and responsible for. Also, when his friend Toby comes to the valley for the first time, David is torn between making Toby feel comfortable, while at the same time trying to avoid hurting his family’s feelings.
She uses it for the first time after comparing herself to a rabid dog and revealing that she enjoys Joseph “so much that [she’s] afraid [he] won’t get out of [her] hands alive.” Additionally, when Joseph delves deeper and questions Helen about the whereabouts of her previous husbands, ‘she patted her belly, and said, “Some of them perhaps are here.”’ At last, Joseph physically responds to Helen’s antics, however, even then he manages to stifle his instincts, despite her farewell remarks: “Take care of your Adam’s Apple… It’s trembling as though it saw the knife. Don’t worry… I haven’t bitten you, yet.” Helen continues to openly reveal her intentions, which is part of her game, while Joseph remains in
In the beginning of the Mayor of Casterbridge there is a parting between Susan and Hechard that also ends up as one of the biggest mistakes of the hero. This too is shown in Jude, the Obscure when Jude marries Arabella, the whole relationship was based more on lust than on love. This too is Jude's first and biggest mistake. Jude is then forced by his honorable nature to marry her when she tells him that she is pregnant, a lie only to capture him. This forced marriage is similar to Henchard's and Susan's forced marriage once she finds him in Casterbridge and lies to him about Elizabeth Jane being his child.
Islamic suicide bombers are a part of one of the few cultures who view suicide as an honorable and logical decision, but the majority of people recognize suicide as a horrific tragedy. However, regardless of one’s beliefs about suicide, it is undeniable how prevalent suicide is worldwide. Many authors purposefully include suicide in their literary works because of how common it is, as well as because it powerfully conveys characters’ inner- struggles. In his novel Jude the Obscure, author Thomas Hardy has multiple characters commit suicide; the reader learns early on that Jude’s mother committed suicide, Jude and Arabella’s son Little Father Time kills himself after killing his 2 siblings, and Jude indirectly commits suicide after losing the will to live. Hardy uses these suicides to criticize the society, show the rigid social structure, and illustrate the effects of prolonged isolation.
A Heroless Story You can’t have a good story without a good hero, Fitzgerald did the exact opposite of that in “The Great Gatsby”. The Oxford dictionary defines a hero as “a person, typically a man, who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities” (Oxford). There are no heroes in “The Great Gatsby”. When you think of heroes in the story, the first person you would claim to be the hero would be Nick Carraway, but he is not a hero. Nick Carraway is a liar, but he only lies a certain way, through omission.
